  1. I didn't hear a fire emergency-- I did hear alpha or a medical emergency on deck 6 around 8 pm. Is that the one you're referring to? We were in Giovanni's at the time.

They said over the PA that there was a fire in deck 6, stateroom xxx, port side, zone 7. I was one Focus on deck 6, so wr saw the emergency personnel. But I guess it was a small one, since everything was normal in about 20 minutes.

  3. Puerto Ricans might actually get offended if you give them charity without being asked for it. The poverty levels are not the same as other caribbean islands. PR grts federal fundings for almost

everything. Just go to the big malls. They have the same chain stores and restaurants as US mainland, so you better give your supplies to other islands where they might benefit more.

  4. I think the Deck 14 aft will no longer be available to the public due to the new Grand suites.

Deck 14 aft, reach it via the jogging track or stars on each side of the Aqua theater. Nice quiet place to relax/read (as long as there are no shows in the Aqua theater).

Royal sells dining packages that include multiple speciality restaurants for a discount. Good deal if you planned on trying multiple ones.

First night likely has discounts on some speciality restaurants but you must reserve in advance on their website. Read the solarium bistro menu carefully as that restaurant isn't for everyone.

20 minutes early is usually enough the get front row/close to it in any show.

Book comedy shows asap as they will fill up. Or show up early and get in standby, but I really recommend reservations as the club is small.

If you like acrobats, sit in the middle if the promenade during the big parade. You'll see a metal ring in the ceiling near there, that is where they hang the acrobat gear. Get there at least 20-30 minutes early if you want to grab chairs and sit during the show.

I eat breakfast and lunch at park cafe most of the time (deck 8 Central Park). Limited selection, but good (especially roast beef sandwiches at lunch).

I prefer cabins between decks 8 and 15 as I visit those decks the most on sea days. There are plenty of elevators so I would not worry about how far you are from them.

Like tanning "in peace"? Take the left stateroom corridor on deck 14 to reach the forward deck. Plenty of chairs, scopes, and not very busy. You can see this deck from the Solarium (16+ area) on 15.

Like the Solarium but want some shade and to be close to a bar? Head to the upper deck portion (on 16). Usually quieter there too. This is my favorite area to catch a nap.

Want to see the heli-pad but aren't invited to the private sail away party? They often hold some yoga classes there.

    My 2 cents anyway.

  5. The closest hotel to the Pan Am pier is Sheraton Convention Center. There is also a Sheraton at Old San Juan, so you have to make sure you have the correct hotel. However, there is nothing to do at the Sheraton convention hotel. It is pretty far from the action, so you may want to stay at Old San Juan or Condado, and the next day take a taxi to the pier. It would be a 10-15 minutes drive.

  6. We're going to give it a shot.

I think your time frame is reasonable. 1:30 all aboard, leaving the rain forest by noon gives us 1 1/2 hours.

Hertz right across from the pier opens at 7:00 so we should have 4 hours in the rain forest.

You have to be really careful. Depending on yhe day of the week traffic can be really really bad, soecially if it rains. You also have to allow time to return thw rental car. I'm from Puerto Rico, and I live 10 minutes south of San Juan, and if it is not on a weekend I would never risk leaving El Yunque at noon to be in San Juan ar 1:30. Under normal conditions, the trip is about 50 minutes (many traffic lights after the highway). So my humble advise is that if you are driving there, leave El Yunque at least 11:30.

  7. My own personal opinion is that if you feel that you cannot afford to tip the expected amount, then you cannot afford the cruise. Tips are a part of the overall cost of cruising. No matter what your own culture is regarding tipping, it is an expected expense when you are on a cruise. Budget for it, or choose a land based vacation in your own country where tipping is not expected.

Sorry to sound harsh, but I really dislike hearing about people who want to shaft the cruise ship workers who are busting their butts to give you a great vacation.

Note - my comment was directed at those sailing from non-tipping cultures, not at the OP.

If tipping is an overall cost of the cruise, then it ahould be added in the fare of the cruise. And RCCL should start paying decent salaries to their staff. They make enough money. The concept of tip, is optional, for great service. Something that is required is a charge, not a tip.
