  1. Thanks everyone for the help! I don't need to book now, I've just been looking and wanting to find a good price. I think I will just wait till the baby is born or I at least know the due date so I can plan for the cruise around the baby's first birthday. At least I know now that I can still add the baby even if they are not actually born. 😆

  2. Hi,

I know this is an odd post. Can anyone tell me how it works if you book a cruise before you have your child? I would like to book a cruise for 2017 as I have found some fantastic deals. So, my questions are:

    1. How hard is it to add the 2nd child after the cruise is booked and does it affect any sale price or deal you originally had?

    2. If time wise it doesn't work out on the actual birth of the child, is it easy to change? I am looking at another Carnival Cruise. I'd like to wait until the child is at least a year before we cruise.

    3. Is it better to book online now when you see a sale price, or, should I wait until our cruise next year and book on the cruise?

just a note, that I know I can't control when I get pregnant and I am fine with that, so, if it happens to be the 3 of us, that is fine as well. I do not want to pass up a great deal if I don't have to as I know I want to take a vacation regardless.

  3. You have to sign up once you're onboard. It's $5 per person, it's on a sea day and is basically the sea day brunch menu tweaked to make it Seuss like.

The steak and eggs were great. My lo got the cereal coated French toast, I'd heard it was real sweet so we had it made with corn flakes. It was fun and definitely worth trying once.

    Thanks! :)

  4. I have heard that before and at first myself got caught up worrying that I am spending all this money and she wont remember it...but then I changed my view and decided, even if she doesn't remember it, my husband, in-laws and I will. Who cares if she doesn't remember? The memories are with us and the good time we had on the trip with her. She had fun and it was worth the money and I already have plans again for next year.

  5. Actually, there are ships that do have pools specifically for children that have a different filtration system than the main pool. And, we were informed by staff we were allowed in a certain pool on the ship with her and her swimming diapers. So, according to the pool staff on Celebrity we were allowed to. Carnival may have different rules.

  6. We just took our daughter on her first cruise in February. I wish I never bothered to take her carseat. It was a waste since we never used it. We took her everywhere with us. We did 2 off ships tours with her. We never stopped doing anything we wanted to do because we had her with us. We just took her with us and let her sleep in our arms or in her stroller.

We looked at it as being her vacation too, so we didn't stress too much about getting her to bed at 8pm like we would at home. This all being said, we have a "go with the flow" baby and have accustomed her to going with the flow. We have a fairly strict schedule at home with her, but, don't get stressed if things don't go as planned. We bought diapers and wipes when we arrived to Puerto Rico so we did not have to carry them in our luggage. We brought our small umbrella stroller but I very much missed our Bob stroller. We let her swim in the pools even though she is not trained but she was wearing specific swim diapers for her age. We took her to the shows and she passed out in our arms and never woke up so we never missed anything. We kept fairly strict on her diet there which is fine since the food is so good and there are so many options. We did let her have some treats but did not go over board.

Bring something she can use to drink from. We always had it with water in it.

We did not use the daycare facilities at all. For us, we were on vacation with her.

We did bring Tylenol but did not need to use it.

Make sure you have all proper legal documents ready to go. I know in Canada we have forms that the parents of the child must sign in order for the child to leave the country.

    Hope this helps.

  7. Car rentals work just the same as in the US. I am not sure if you are afraid of our driving or us, but I think you will make out just fine :) Canada is one of the friendliest countries in the world.

I agree. Some other Provinces and their cities I would not suggest driving in unless you are used to city driving in the US, but generally, Nova Scotia is not that fast pace traffic wise. They country driving and highway driving are pretty laid back! I would be afraid of our pot holes though.... This has become a joke in our city.

  8. Hi Toni,

Thanks for the tips. Where exactly is the Titanic grave site? Is it on the way to Peggy's Cove or is it back more towards Halifax and the harbour?

The Titanic grave Site is in the Fairview Cemetery. It has numerous gravestones of people who were on the Titanic. One specifically was J. Dawson, which is not actually the Jack Dawson, but had a lot of hype. It is a huge tourist attraction. A restaurant called Five Fisherman used to be the morgue and held the bodies from the Titanic. It is now a very good Seafood restaurant that is rumored to be haunted. It is a 15-20 min drive I would say with all, the stop lights and traffic. It would probably be best to see it on your way back from Peggy's Cove. I wouldn't consider it out of the way. Here is a link on some Titanic sites. http://www.novascotia.ca/titanic/default.asp The "sites" section has a great map and the cemetery is near numbers 17 and 18 on it.

  9. Many thanks, BlondeNSgirl. The Enterprise office address is listed as "VIA Rail, Halifax, 1161 Hollis St." I"m sure we'll be able to find it OK. We plan on driving to Peggy's Cove and hopefully have time to look around the Maritime Museum after. Any tips?

I would suggest getting to Peggy's Cove first thing. This way you get to enjoy it before the buses arrive. Since you have a car I would also stop at the Titanic grave Site. I was just on the Harbour Hopper for the 1st time this past year and it was fantastic. I would very much recommend that! Here is the website:. http://www.mtcw.ca/harbourhopper/

  10. Is that Enterprise car rental place in the VIA rail station location, and do they provide a shuttle from the ships to their office?

It is actually in the Westin hotel which is next to the VIA rail. I am not sure if they provide a shuttle. It may be at most a 15 - 20 min walk. Cab would take you not even 5 minutes.

Opps, it may have moved! Sorry! It used to be in Westin, but now appears to be in VIA rail.

  11. You might want to look at upgrading to an oceanview, on most dates it's only $50 more pp and even if you don't drink beer, wine or alcohol, the savings on sodas, coffees, waters would likely be worthwhile.

That being said. If I had an infant or young child I would absolutely take a balcony. Once child is sleeping at night or even having an afternoon nap, I'd be outside on my balcony enjoying the air and ocean and sipping my 123 promo beverage :D. There is still time to change.

The railings are high and you can lock the door. I would not be worried. I didn't cruise when my child was that age but certainly stayed in many, many hotels with balcony and never had a problem. In fact we always looked for hotels with balconies. When my dear son woke up early, he and I could read or play on the balcony while my husband slept a little longer.

Hi! We debated that, but, the balcony with an almost 2 year old did concern me and at 10 months now she is already a climber. My in laws are right across from us. The plan was for when we put her down for nap or bed that we would go to inlaws room. We will have her monitor on for when we do this. This way don't have to stay in room while she sleeps.

If we weren't sailing with my inlaws I would probably consider your suggestion. Thanks for the tip.

  12. Halifax is a beautiful city with lots of history. Peggy's Cove is one of our biggest tourist attractions. I would also look into doing the Harbour Hopper. I believe it is owned by Murphys on the water. It is a tour that takes you all around downtown Halifax, up Citadel Hill and then takes you on a boat ride in the Harbour. It is a lot of fun. We have a few museums, one right off the water front! This one contains a lot on the Titanic and Halifax explosion. You can also go and view the titanic grave Site as well. We have some great Seafood restaurants. Murphys on the water, McKelvie's and Five Fisherman. These are sit down meals. If you want something faster for Seafood, try the battered fish which is located on the Boardwalk. If you want to try something that is specifically Nova Scotiabank, then try a donair. Very popular here.

A car rental place close to the waterfront is Enterprise. I hope this helps.

  13. First, we sailed Celebrity last April, did the drink package thing, saved about $200. More convenient to pay ahead, then pay later. You can find out more by visiting Celebrity`s website.

Second, to each their own on formal nights. Some men wear tuxedos, some wear suit/ties. Some ladies wear formals, some wear nice dresses.

And some don`t even dress up, it`s basically for those eating I believe.

So, is the 123 go! Promo I just enter myself? Thanks for letting me know about the formal nights. That seems the same as Royal Caribbean. I like the formal nights but didn't want to look ridiculous being the only ones dressed up. :o

  14. No problem. I just got the friend request today. Only one more day of work to suffer through before cruising this Saturday! Let me know if there's anything specific you want to see pictures of! I'll be happy to post! Thank you!

Nothing that I can specifically think of. Have wonderful trip! Actually, can you get a picture of the main pool deck? I can't wait for your review!

  15. Great Review Ron! We are headed on summit February 2015. We are going with my in-laws. We chose an inside cabin on the sky deck as we will have an almost 2 year old with us and didn't want to worry about a deck. Probably didn't have to, but just being a paranoid parent. Our inlaws took the room with the balcony across from us, so we can enjoy theirs. We are doing different ports on ours. I noticed someone mentioned the drink package but I couldn't seem to located your post on the upgrade you did. Can you explain this? I have never been on Celebrity.

I also heard the "formal nights" are not so formal on Celebrity. Is this true?

    TIA!
