  1. Just recently sailed Apex SV deck 9.  I felt vibrations, mostly at night. I think the intensity depended on how fast we were sailing or wind/weather related. I could also faintly hear music from Eden which sometimes went well into the night.  I didn’t like these things but for me the positives of the room outweighed the negatives.  I love the view from an aft cabin and would rebook the same room again.

How are you guys deciding which menu is the best to choose? By the "show," or the food? Trying to sort it out without ruining the "surprise" of it is hard to do. We will likely only do it once, so..... how do I pick, per your advice, if you have done them? 😃

You can select individual courses from either menu if you want. You don’t have to follow the animation menu 100% if there is something you absolutely don’t want to eat. Personally I selected all items on the animation menu just because I thought it would be more fun and was surprised I liked some things I wouldn’t have normally selected on my own.

  3. I agree the captain’s 10am announcements were almost impossible to understand due to extremely low volume and accent.  I missed many while having breakfast at the outdoor buffet eating area. The last 3 days I really wanted to hear if there was any covid update numbers, especially after passing by a person dressed in hazmat gear in my hallway. I had to move myself indoors and stand directly under a speaker where no one was around. The 3 announcements I heard were only a minute or 2 in duration and spoke only of our location and the weather.

For those of you who want to do a preliminary home COVID test prior to your 48 hr pre-cruise proctored test, here is a very recent report ranking the "usability" of the home tests including the popular ones like BinaxNow and On/Go among others.   Hopefully this is helpful to us cruising folk.  ECRI is a non-profit organization in healthcare.

    Yellow is 0.1%

That's one case for 1000 people.  With most X ships sailing with <1000 people, a single case makes the ship yellow, which is a totally pointless/useless metric.

You are correct. Yellow is 0.1% and in your example 1 positive out of 1,000 would cause a yellow designation. But the wording says 0.1% OR MORE.  There could be many more positive people than that one person.

Following the news is everyone's first mistake.....I promised myself I will not say anything negative at this point in time....but there have been SO many inaccurate reports in the media that I am truly not watching/reading any of them at this point.

Following the news is everyone's first mistake? You are not reading any news stories at this point?  WOW. As someone who is moderating this board I can't believe you would first of all do that, and second of all admit you are doing that.  If you aren't listening to the news how do you make decisions on what posts to delete ????  I come here for information.  I can figure out what to believe or not.  If you believe posts are incorrect please tell us why rather than deleting.   Add to the information rather than censoring.  If this board is just one perspective it does no one any good.

  7. I think sometimes in my attempts to be brief, I think through my wording too carefully and it becomes a shorthand that is not picked up by people. I really am sorry as I hate it when posters miss out on people.

Or people just honestly disagree with you. You asked for people's opinions and you got them. It appears you were actually not really interested in what others think, unless of course they think just like you.

  8. The thing that's interesting is that one would think these dress code discussions would be gone by now but it seems that even though the casual crowd has what they wanted they won't be satisfied until every vestige of anyone looking glamorous, chic or sophisticated is gone.

Not sure what you mean. I haven't read anything close to that sentiment in this thread.

  9. When we are in a crowed and loud restaurant my wife and I will have conversations via text message from across the table. We wouldn't take out our phone if we were seated with others during diner. Hopefully there would be some interesting conversation and we would meet new people. With that said after reading some of these treads I may insist that we text each other at a 2 top to avoid eavesdropping from the busy bodies. Isn't it also bad manners to stare someone down while they are eating. These people watchers really need to join the party and participate. They are so busy judging that they can't possibly be enjoying themselves.

When my husband brought out his cell phone at our 2 top to see what the weather was going to be at our next stop so that we could plan out our day, a woman at the next table began staring at us. She made sure she caught my eye and then shook her head disapprovingly and did an exaggerated eye roll. From that point on I felt her continued staring. I found it so strange that she mentally invited herself to our table and then seemed angry to be there. She was definitely not enjoying herself.

  10. You're commenting about being interactive with others at the table by showing them pictures. The comment in the beginning is referring to those ignoring others around them as they have their face in their phone. That's a big difference. You're comparing apples to oranges.

This is why I mentioned reading a newspaper at the table. Ignoring people in such a way, regardless of whether you're looking at your phone or reading a book or reading a newspaper, is poor manners.

    :

Yes, I was commenting about using a cell phone and being interactive with our friends. I understood what the OP was saying, but wanted to make a point that just because you use a cell phone does not mean that you are ignoring everyone.

Had she looked at us just at the right time she may have seen our faces in our phones, too, and also thought we were ignoring each other when nothing could have been further from the truth.

On your other point, I personally would not read a newspaper at the table as I would feel rude doing so. If someone else wanted to that is their business and I would not feel disrespected by them. I would just think that they really wanted to read the paper.

  11. I'm curious as to how those who do not see an issue with cell phone usage at a table would react if I brought my Wall Street Journal to the table. Opening it wide to read, making sure I was able to get the full effect of my enjoyment.

That wouldn't be rude at all, just like using a cell phone.

Or conversely, these examples of what happened at our table of four shared with our good friends recently in the MDR. They were proud to show us pictures of their grandkids. I assume that if they had taken these photos out of their wallets (showing my age here) no one watching from another table would have had a problem. Or everyone enjoying seeing the photos we all took during the day, but now shared by passing around our phones rather than our cameras.

The cell phone is just a tool, many times doing the same things we have already been doing, just doing them easier and more efficiently.

If we shared a table with you and you wanted to read your Wall Street Journal it would not bother me, although I would probably suggest that you get their electronic version.

  12. We were on the Solstice May 27th Alaska cruise and observed something we hadn't seen before. Several tables near us had many cell phones out texting and watching videos while ordering and even when eating. My opinion only but I think this is so rude to the dining staff and your fellow diners. Hopefully not the new norm. I have no problem with people snapping quick pics of the food but these phones were out and being used the entire dinner. We had a good cruise but this was unsettling.

Perhaps they were texting about the lady at the next table who kept staring at them. :)

  13. We used luggage valet a couple of weeks ago for the first time. It worked perfectly and was well worth the money.

I noticed that SouthWest wasn't listed as one of the participating airlines. I asked about this and was told that SouthWest had opted out of the program.

I don't know if this applies to all Celebrity ships and all airports, but luggage valet wasn't available with SouthWest on our recent Silhouette cruise. We were flying JetBlue so it wasn't an issue for us.

  14. We had a very good self disembark on the 3/27 Silhouette cruise. We got to the lobby at 6:45am and were directed to the MDR. Once in the MDR we were directed to put our luggage at the end of a an already long line of luggage and have a seat. We knew we were early so we were surprised to see that were about 100 people already ahead of us.

A little before 7:30 we were given the signal that we could proceed off the ship. Everyone went to their luggage and we walked off as an organized line with no one cutting in front of anyone else .

By 7:40 we were through customs and we were at the airport via taxi before 8:00.

To the OP, sorry you had a different experience.

  15. We will be sailing on the Silhouette 3/27. This will be the eastern Caribbean itinerary. Can anyone tell us which nights will be evening chic? Thanks and happy sailing everyone!

Thank you for asking this question. We will be on the same cruise as you and I have been wondering about this same thing.
