  1. We did the Paris to Prague City of Lights cruise with another couple on Viking a few years ago. It was their trip and we just went along with their plans. None of us had ever been to Europe before. Had a great time, loved the food, the scenery, the ship, and the company. We saw castles, museums, vineyards, cobblestone streets, and cathedrals. Won't do another one in Europe but would consider China. Prefer ocean cruising for the value and flexibility and entertainment. Glad we did it though. Be forewarned, if you do Viking, you will br inundated with brochures for the rest of your life. I resent their pricing "two for one" as that is their regular price. Just a marketing ploy.

  2. Definitely not the mega ships. Public spaces too crowded and I hate having to book everything. I also miss the 'Great Outdoors' and the upstairs observatory lounge/Spinnakers where I spend most nights dancing etc. I also hate the open casino- the whole midship just reeks of smoke.

The Jewel class and the Sun are my definite favourites.

Hated the Getaway. No space in the pool or hot tubs, hassle in buffet. Generally prefer smaller ships but the tradeoff is fewer activities. We generally look for port heavy itineraries so don't spend much time on ship anyway. Do miss some evening entertainment though.

  3. When traveling with my daughter, we like to share a table with others and have met some very interesting people but no one we kept contact with. When traveling with my husband, we eat alone. He wears a hearing aid and can't really focus on a single conversation at a larger table. Also, larger groups take longer to get through, especially if you're sitting with someone who orders multiple servings. DH has back problems and sitting in those stiff back chairs for an extended period can really be painful for him.

  4. We recently had an inside cabin on the Grand for a 15 day cruise to Hawaii. DH got sick and was bed ridden for 4 days. He didn't mind much, but I was miserable with no place to sit with him except the desk chair. Check out the other furniture in the room. That may help you decide. We're about 50/50 between insides and balconies but after that experience, it's a balcony from now on.

  5. Taking cruise on Celebrity Equinox June 18 out of Miami. Booked flight to FLL and debating whether to stay in Ft Lauderdale hotel with free airport shuttle and Uber or shuttle to port the next day, or Uber or shuttle to Miami hotel with free shuttle to port. Mostly boils down to traffic really. Our flight lands 2:30 pm on Saturday,June 17. What's best option for transportation post cruise from port to FLL? Not familiar with Port of Miami.

  6. We are platinum on Princess and have sailed on RCI, Norwegian, and once on HAL. We were in an aft facing balcony on the Oosterdam and it was the best room we have ever had. We tend to book mid range cabins, never been in a suite. As one previous poster commented we didn't like the way they had to serve instead of self serve in buffet. Most of all, we were put off by the decor. Stairs were dark and it was difficult to gauge steps (big deal for me as I have trouble seeing in dim light). Decided we probably wouldn't do that ship again. Might give the line another chance though if price and itinerary was a match.

  7. Thanks. I watched the video but it doesn't really saying what type of mattress it is, just that's it's luxurious. We've had hotels with luxurious beds that we can't sleep on. Innerspring should be just fine. DH has severe cervical stenosis and had to sit up all night last cruise we took. Mattress on that ship was shot. Not Princess.

  8. Understand Princess is upgrading mattresses on all ships eventually. We are booked on a 28 day Majestic next April. Does anyone know what type of mattress they are upgrading to? We can't sleep on foam mattresses and will probably cancel if that's what will be onboard.

  9. I booked two inside rooms for myself, daughter and 2 teenage granddaughters and it was $4000. Can find some fantastic deals but when you have to book for break times, and get adjoining rooms you're more limited. I usually go Princess so could probably have gotten cheaper rate but since my grands are teens, thought they would have more fun on RCCL and they did.

  10. In our youth, we always did inside cabins, but now opt for balconies if it makes sense. We usually figure cost, area and ship. Last cruise on the Getaway we had a balcony and glad we did. Lots if kids, crowded pool area, and the Caribbean so we were on our balcony most of the time. Love sitting on balcony in the middle of the night. On Princess though there are usually quiet areas where you can sit inside next to a window so we usually opt for an inside cabin. Booked a balcony for an upcoming Mediterranean 28 day cruise. Can't quite see ourselves spending that much time in an inside cabin, but did a 15 day Panama Canal cruise inside.
