we've docked at crown point now 3 times and took the taxi to red hook and then the ferry to st john. we just did it again and the prices for the taxis seem to have got alot higher. the taxis at the port charged us $11 per person to go to red hook. we tried to find cheaper taxis but they all seemed about the same. i think one van was $10. So i don't think it's worth it to go to red hook. I asked about the ferry direct from downtown but the taxi drivers all said not to do it, it's unreliable, etc. i think they just want the higher taxi fare to red hook.

So has anyone taken the ferry from downtown to st. john? I would like to hear your thoughts.

St. John is beautiful though. I would like to stay there for a couple of days and go to all the beaches.

very good comprehensive description of St. John. We are heading there in Dec. Ship will stop in St. Thomas. Will be my 3rd time to St. John.
