They still have to create a transaction per drink for tipping purposes, tax purposes (when in port), inventory tracking, passenger drink amount tracking and probably another reason or two I'm missing.

I've never had a problem taking a break, walking to bar and ordering exactly what I want from the bartender.  However, on my last sailing unlike previous sailing they (casino bartender or casino drink staff) wouldn't let you have just a sugar free red bull without them pouring into a glass with alcohol.

This is very helpful.  I'm on the Millennium in a couple weeks on a casino comped cruise - first time on Celebrity.   I'm used to Royal where you can go up to the Casino Bar and get a free drink - which I like a lot. Wasn't sure how strict they are on "while you are playing" on Celebrity.  I play a lot, drink a lot, tip a lot so I figure it will all work out, but good to know the lay of the land in advance.

  2. I'm going to piggy back on to ask a question.  Can you have two reservations for one night (dinner) with UDP?  Or only one?  I'm a late dinner eater, but would love to get sashimi from Izumi earlier in the evening as a snack before a late reservation for dinner.  Wondering if I can have two reservations or if my best bet is to make my later reservations and try to walk in to Izumi when it opens.  (Sailing on Symphony if it makes a difference.)

  3. I booked the 9/4 Millennium Alaska sailing - taking my dad along.  I'm not certain it will happen given everything, but cautiously optimistic.   I've never cruised Celebrity before so very much looking forward to it.  I booked through an independent host (urcomped) and my offers from them usually vary from inside to oceanview to (very rarely) balcony depending on the cruise line, itinerary, and date, so a Verandah cabin on Celebrity was definitely a generous offer for my play level.

I have a couple of questions for all of you Celebrity comped casino cruise experts:

My understanding is that drinks are free in the casino while playing and maybe also at the casino bar when not playing - does anyone have any experience with this?  Is it OK to walk out of the casino with a comped drink.  I've done this on Royal, but not sure of the rules on Celebrity.  I'm debating whether we should still get alcohol packages anyway as my dad is a big drinker, so any clarity here would be really helpful.

Also, on Royal they have very clear point earning thresholds for getting future comped cruises (something like XXX points for an inside; xxxx for an oceanview; xxx for a balcony); does Celebrity have anything like this?

    Thanks in Advance!

  4. Red Bull is not included, nor is canned soda. I'm sure there are more but I didn't drink any of them. I stuck to the menu and didn't make up drinks that were not listed.

Thanks - I didn't think they would be, but when I saw them on the menu it sparked my imagination.

Heading out on Pearl in a couple of weeks and have the beverage package for the first time - very much looking forward to it!

  5. The spa passes were $99 on my recent 5 day Pearl cruise. I purchased then before hand online but I believe they can also be purchased on the ship as well. There are a limited number of passes sold, I heard once only 100.

The past gives you access to the thermal suite located inside the spa. On the Pearl, The women's only area includes a sauna, steam room, one person whirlpool, showers, plunge pool and lounge chair looking out towards the sea. The coed area has a large pool, a larger whirlpool and tile lounges that heat up, as well as regular lounges that also overlook the sea.

For me it was worth the money, to be able to use the hot tubs without crowds. It is a very peaceful place to relax.

There is much to enjoy in the Termal Suite aside from the spa's and loungers, I found many people would curl up in the private area with a book and I heard the guys were on the men's side watching football. There is a TV in the private area. It was always quiet and relaxing. The medicated steam room was amazing. They offer a variety of hot teas, coffee and water as refreshments.

Thanks @Heaven6566 and @zscfan for the details and pictures - I'm debating getting one of these for my upcoming cruise. A couple of questions (please forgive me if these are abominably stupid, I don't have much spa experience):

-How large is the hot tub in the co-ed area/was it normally very crowded?

-Were you able to use the single hot tubs in the women's area or were they normally crowded?

-Am I understanding correctly that there are both a hot tub and cool water (thelassotherapy??) pool in the co-ed area?

-Is there bar service and/or could I carry a drink in? (relaxing in a private adults-only area sounds lovely, but I'm thinking I will want a glass of cool champagne while lounging on a ceramic heated chair).

And a random non-spa related Pearl question:

As a solo cruiser, do I need to make reservations for the dining room or can you always walk up? I don't mind waiting for a table, but I'm not clear if the dining rooms can fill up/be unavailable to walk-ups the way the specialty restaurants can.

THANKS so much to everyone for the incredible tips. I'm looking forward to my first experience on NCL.

  6. Carnival has a bunch of 4-day cruises for around $100:

    Imagination from LAX on Nov 30 ($100), Dec 7 ($105), and Dec 14 ($108)

    Inspiration from LAX on Dec 1 ($100), Dec 8 ($105), and Dec 15 ($108)

Paradise from TPA on Nov 20 ($100) and Dec 4 ($109)

    Ecstasy from MIA on Nov 24 ($109), Dec 1 ($109) and Dec 8 ($109)

Sensation from MCO on Nov 23 ($109) and November 30 ($109)

Even more at the $119 - $129 range.

  7. That is not correct. It can be applied any time prior to final payment.

Thanks. I think the problem is that I booked within 30 days of the cruise; so I believe final payment was due at the time of the booking. I'm not srue exactly how final payment flows from me to travel agency to RCCL, so I'm not sure on the timing issue of when exactly I "made my final payment" and when the TA requested the savings certificate.

  8. Has your TA made the final payment? I would ask, then print the coupon.

There was a savings certificate on my last cruise on Adventure. I contacted the TA and was told that the certificate could only be applied at the time of the original booking, not after.

Thanks to both of you for the responses. I did reach out to my travel agent and they were trying to get RCCL to honor it. I'm not holding my breath, but it would be a nice suprise if it was.

  9. I'm sadly far away from pension/retirement.

But, I do get four day weekends pretty often and just booked a good deal for an upcoming one.

RCCL Majest of the Seas 3-day departing Miami on 1/17/2014 solo in an outer cabin for $270 plus taxes and fees. There also appears to be a C&A Savings Certificate that might be combinable with the fare. I booked through a TA and didn't see the cert until after, so I think I'm SOL.
