I have sailed with RC and Princess a total of 16 times and only ever had a couple of minor tweaks to itinerary ( a reduction if 1 hour in port). I am sailing for the first time with NCL in 2 weeks, I have lost count of the number of changes. We have lost 2 ports and significant time differences at others. This is in Asia where a lot of ports are tender and a long way from where we would like to visit. I am not even getting refunds on an 8.5hr excursion I booked which is now at a port where we are tendering and now only have 7 hours in total so obviously I will be missing quite a chunk of my excursion. They have also switched some ports to alternative days so we actually seem to be sailing further. The latest changes which are quite major affecting 4 of the stops were only communicated last night. My daughter booked a similar cruise ( several if the same ports) with Celebrity at the same time as we booked our NCL one ( over a year ago), she has just returned from her cruise which was exactly the same as she originally booked so I don’t understand why we are being to subjected to so many changes. It feels like Bait and switch as this cruise no longer resembles what we booked.

I am on that too. Once NCL pulled a full cruise (no explanation), entirely! Wish I had thought about that before I booked this one. NEVER had this happen on any other cruise line 😞

  2. Hi and TIA for any replies.

Does anybody know if NCL have shuttle buses in Thailand from Bangkok to the port (Laem Chabang.

Can't find the info on NCL site. Know it is early days just starting my planning. Bit of a hike to the port 😞

    Many Thanks

  3. What was your opinion of the specialty restaurants, since I think you have now already cruised? Ours in coming up Feb 21st out of Baltimore and just wondered if or which specialty I should book?

Also, do you know if signing up for your roll call is the same as signing up for a meet and mingle?

    HI Payankee,

We are on that cruise also. Coming from the UK.

Signing up for roll call is via the boards. Meet and mingle is via RCI and they need a certain number to host the event. They provide soft drinks and nibbles and some trinkets for the event.

  4. We sailed on MSc Armonia on a Canaries and North Africa cruise. We had previously done 2 cruises, the Baltics and Iceland/Norway on Royal

The ship was beautiful, the entertainment mostly good, the drinks package amazing value and the staff fabulous. The food in the MDR was mostly good. I di not like the buffet much but my husband did. There was always something to eat!.

Yes people complain about the announcements (5 languages) but tbh, I never really noticed them!

MSc have some fantastic bargains. Go for it

  5. Got this "sale" from my TA. Prices are double what I would normally look at for similar sailings. I didn't find any Uk sailings that included flights. And the drinks package is just beer, wine and soft drinks. I would rather take my chances and wait until they reduced.

I don't think that even tips, drinks and OBC will add up to £500 on a 7 night med cruise. And the cruise itself can be had for much less than £500 :-)

I do not feel the current £989 for a 7 night cruise is a bargain.

(hopefully I will not be crying in my "up to $8 glass of wine in a few months time)

  6. I booked a 17 night Australia cruise many months ago at a fantastic price. It was for me and my husband. Sadly, we have now separated and he does not want to do the trip. I am trying to talk one of my adult sons into coming with me. We have a balcony cabin booked and flights booked and paid for.

I want to go and think I would be ok on my own. I am on the roll call and there are a few Brits on it. But 17 nights is a long time to be on a ship, plus the extra hotel time we have booked in both Perth and Sydney.

I am concerned about the pricing. Currently it is showing at over £5000 for a single occupancy balcony. All in with tips etc, cost us just over £3000. (balance is due in September). So would I really have to pay what is approximately £3500 to go it alone? Some posters on here have suggested just not telling RCI and turning up alone? What might happen then? If we have paid the balance in full can they charge me more?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

  7. Hi Sandra,

I'm Sue and hubby is Andy. I will look out for you on the plane! How did you book the taxi and how much if you don't mind me asking?

We have cruised before but only with RCI. This is our 2nd cruise this year as we now have the bug! This was a bargain so don't mind the scrum in the buffet. A colleague just gpot back and visited Casablanca and hated it. Will tell you more when I find out why :-(

Anyway, good to know there are more Brits on board!

    My countdown has begun

  8. Hi Yes, we are flying from Manchester. Think we are going out with jet2 at about 9am ish? Was thomas cook but they pulled the outbound flight. We are coming back with them though.

What time is your flight? I'm a little bit worried as it seems quite tight? But a TA did it so I guess we are covered.

We have only cruised with RCI before but I am not worried about MSC cruise. Seems good value for money for a bit of winter sun.

We don't plan to do any tours in particular but enjoy a lazy few days!

    Sue

  9. Hi all.

Is there ANYBODY sailing the Canaries on Armonia on 30th November? Lot's of other roll calls for other ships but nothing for this. Or am I missing it completely?

Also, just noticed somebody responding to a post about irons etc and he told a lady traveller that Curling tongs and hair straighteners were not allowed? Surely not? They are allowed on RCI ships and there can't be a lady on this planet who will go to a formal dinner without straightening her hair??? I can't anyway ;)
