  1. Thanks for the tips! We're going there next month and I wasn't sure what to do! :D

We have been to Costa Maya twice, and are going back the third time on our Thanksgiving cruise. The town of Mahuhal is about 5 minutes from the port. You can take the $3 shuttle (right at the very end of the port area) into town. There are four stops on the shuttle. The first stop is at the beginning of the town beach walk-say (Melancon). This is closest to Blue Kay. The second and third stops are in the middle-part of the town/beach walk-way, and the fourth stop is at the end. There are many beach clubs (restaurants/bars) along the beach walk-way. The shuttle driver will try to talk you into getting off at the first stop (whatever club he gets incentives for). You can research Costa Maya/Mahuhal and see which reviews/places might suit you the best. Last year we spent the day at the Krazy Lobster (second stoop). We had an ocean-front shaded table and beach chairs (no charge for this). Very lively music and good service. The drinks and food were good and very reasonable. They had free kayaks that you could use. The kids played in the sand/ocean/kayaked and we just relaxed. We did the entire day for less than 50 dollars (the cost of drinks and food all day). You take the taxi back to the dock (just $2 per person). Both years we did not make advanced reservations and had no problems getting a table/spot. There are vendors that walk by but they are very polite. We actually purchased a few souvenirs for about a quarter of the price as compared to the dock/ship prices. There are also places along the beach that you can book a snorkeling trips, etc. We are planning on going back to the Krazy Lobster this year again. We like being close to the ship, and not having to pre-book anything. Hope this helps.
  2. Just had a spa room on the Splendor last month. It was great- we used the steam rooms and Thera pool almost every day. They wouldn't refill our shampoo bottles, just one per person. (And they're about the normal trial size/hotel room sized bottles. There was enough in there for 3-4 showers, I'd say.)

I believe we got a 20% off regular spa rates, but read the paperwork they give you the first night. I made that mistake and missed a few things that we could have done earlier in the cruise.

Enjoy it! I wouldn't hesitate to book another spa room with the Cloud 9 spa. It was a wonderful experience. :)

  3. Question for anyone who has booked at Mr Sanchos before!

If I book directly with the site it is $55 but if I book through a tour site it's only $45. Isn't it usually the other way around?

Has anyone used cozumel mexico tours . com? How did you book and did it all work out well for you?

    Thanks!!

    ~Cheryl

  4. My kids will be going on their first cruise next month. (can I get a woohoo?!?? :D )

They are pretty adventurous eaters and looking forward to trying a lot of new food in the MDR. My concern is that they are going to order something, then not like it. How long typically will it take to get another entree?

I know we can order as much as we'd like, but I'm concerned that it'll take so long to get entree #2 that everybody else will be done with their meal by that point. :(

If they may not like it I order it to share/as a second meal when we order or ask if they can have it as an appetizer so that the whole process isn't held up. I've always figured if they don't eat all their dinner they can get something off Lido- they aren't going to starve. :)

  5. I can't thank you all enough for your insight about this island! We are going in November and we are the only ship in that day, so hopefully it will be as amazing as I want it to be! ;) LOL!

  6. Hoping to book a trip here during our cruise in November. We will be the only ship there so from what I'm reading it shouldn't be too busy?

Excited to see this beautiful place!

For anyone who has not booked through Carnival: What time frames were you looking at? We are there from 8-3pm and I'm wondering if there's going to be a sufficient amount of time to visit LFK or if I should just wait until we visit another time?

    Thanks!!

  7. Just a note; the last time the kids and I went I booked a cabana and was told I would get priority tender. That didn't happen. We were over there pretty quickly and I'm not a complainer, but don't be surprised if you aren't on the first boat over. ;)

Have a blast! I'm in agreement; the cabana was the best money I spent on the cruise. WELL worth it and planning on doing it again our next trip!!

    Have fun!!!

  8. Thanks Al! We are going on the glory, January 2015. I will keep your tips handy for sure! Thank you!!!

Cheryl- Congrats on your first balcony!!! You won't believe how much more you will love your cruise with the actual SEA at your feet!! A tip: either print out my suggestions OR write them down along with others here and BRING them with you on the cruise..the MUST DO'S ARE:

    1) Breakfast on the balcony ( day at sea preferred )..remember to tip waiter about $5 in CASH to set table up outside..

    2) When you get up EVERYDAY, go on your balcony and enjoy the scenery ..enjoy a cup of coffee, read cruise pamphlet on what to do today, etc..

    3) When you get back from the pool ( on a sea day) OR back from an excursion at a port of call, chill out on your balcony and realize you don't have to be looking at 4 walls, no light, no wind, no waves, no sounds, NO NOTHING EXCEPT the amazing ocean & harbour...

    4) If you are facing West, check out the sunsets...

    5) Before bed, go outside & check out the sea at night, ESPECIALLY if it's a moonlit night...I love seeing the whitecaps and HEARING them under a moonlit sky ( and the STARS!!)

    6) Finally, if there's a storm with lightening & rain, don't be afraid to sit out there & check it out- it is an AMAZING thing to see ( as I mention in my original post)

When are you going and on what ship? Make sure you come back on this thread and let us know what you thought and how your hubby liked the surprise!!

    Big Al

  9. Lovin' this thread!!! Hubby and I are going on our third cruise and I'm surprising him with a balcony. Can't wait; we've done inside cabins for the last two and I love them. I was slightly nervous about booking the balcony but with three sea days I figured it would be totally worth it. Can't wait to sail!!!

Thanks for the affirmation and the tips!!

    Cheryl
