  1. Plastic straws use in industrialized nations such as the US or UK are not, I repeat NOT, a problem. Just another green scam for the gullible to rally around. Plastic straws are a convenience, while paper straws are all but useless. If you don't want to use plastic straws then don't, but do not try and dictate to responsible adults how to live their lives.  Plastic straws are a feel good non-issue for the crowd which believes the world will end in 12 years due to global warming (already discredited and changed to "climate change". The actual truth is that 95% of the plastic in the oceans are the result of 10 rivers located in Asia and Africa.

    Contact JNJ Tours via Facebook.

They will give all information and prices

Thanks for the info. I've already booked with Vaughn Francis of Tropical Adventures, who has a "Grenada in a Nutmeg Shell Tour" that hits all the spots I'm interested in. Vaugh has great reviews on Trip Adviser, but I was only able to book him on his website:  www.tagrenada.com or tadventure@hotmail.com

  3. It's entertaining to see some americans terrified of crime in the Caribbean. I grew up on the outskirts of Detroit, and now live in a northern michigan tourist town where there is some crime on a regular basis. The gullible and unawares can be victimized regardless of where they go. Basically people need to be cautious wherever they go, and one is far, far more likely to suffer a accident (physical) as opposed to violent crime. By the way, having worked for the state of michigan in a maximum security prison and as a children & adult protective services investigator I know crime...its everywhere.

  4. My wife and I are interested in seeing The River Antoine Rum Distillery, Grand Etang Lake, the Gouyave Nutmeg station and Diamond Chocolate Factory. It seems the tours we've researched to go there do not run on weekends.  We will be in Grenada on a saturday in January 2020. Will the businesses be open if we hired a taxi to take us there?

  5. My wife and I are looking at booking a guaranteed balcony for a January 2020 southern caribbean cruise out of San Juan Puerto Rico (Norwegian Epic). We have never booked a guaranteed balcony before, and it says it may be partially or fully obstructed. How often do people actually receive a fully or partially obstructed balcony.?  Is it a large percentage of the time, or more rare? Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

  6. This is a question regarding the Royal Caribbean myvegas rewards, more specifically the 50% off fare for 2, and the companion fare. The 50% off fare for two comes in at 500,000 loyalty points while the companion fare costs 750,000 loyalty points. It would appear that both would result in a 50% reduction in cost for a couple on a cruise. I'm not sure what I'm missing here in terms of value for the higher priced companion fare. Has anyone used either of these offers yet and can enlighten me on which is more valuable and why?

  7. I called the online TA (based in NH) today to let them know that the package was not showing on my Celebrity reservation. It is now showing.

I got through to my TA today who said they'd fix it. The change hasn't shown yet, so I'll just keep an eye on it. We are going to stick with the classic package. We will be the couple hoisting apple & strawberry Boonesfarm. By this point in my life, my taste buds are likely incapable of distinguishing between top & bottom shelf.

  8. When booking our cruise - Silhouette, 7 day western carribean, February 23rd, my DW and I were given the classic beverage package as part of a promotion. However, the beverage package has not shown up on our reservation on celebrity's website. Does anyone know if beverage packages that are part of a promo appear on your cruise details on the Celebrity website? The cruise was booked through an online agency, not Celebrity. The beverage package was the classic package. Thanks in advance for any help

  9. Hi Dave,

Excited we will be cruising with you and Barb again in 2014. I would love to do the Tracey Arm excursion out of Juneau........wish we were on the northbound together. I had looked at it last year but didn't want to do it a alone (Charlie was fishing....surprise, surprise!!).

    Linda

Linda, one reason I'm trying to get the Tracey Arm tour in on the northbound leg is so that I've got more time to fish DIPAC with Charlie on the southbound...surprise, surprise :) Barb & I are thrilled to be cruising Alaska with you and Charlie next year. Do you plan to go on the Tracy Arm Fjord tour this summer? If you don't, I'll let you know what I find out about reservations for the tour in 2014.

Finally, there's one other reason we aren't on the northbound leg with you. The ceo of Celebrity has banned us from being on more than one cruise with you & Charlie. Said something about having a issue with cleaning salmon in the staterooms. He didn't believe it when I objected, saying that all the salmon belonged to you & Charlie, and that I was just helping with the cleaning :)

  10. We booked the Tracy Arm Fjord and Glacier Explorer with Allen Marine through HAL for Sept 3rd and it was cancelled due to weather. Have a backup plan in case your tour is cancelled. We hopped on the Whale watching and Mendenhall Glacier tour, also with Allen Marine, and had a great time. We saw lots of humpbacks and Orcas.

We do plan to stop by Mendenhall Glacier during one of our stops in Juneau. When we stopped by Mendenhall glacier last year (July) the salmon weren't in the river yet, hence we didn't see any bears. It was a combo whale watch/mendenhall glacier trip through Orca. We had nice weather and saw many active humpbacks. Also plan to do some shore fishing near the DIPAC hatchery in Juneau.

  11. Too bad that you are not on the Millennium's northbound route as this would allow you plenty of time for the Adventure Bound excursion. We did AB in 2012 and hope to do it again in 2014. Wonderful excursion!

I had noticed the early arrival (7:00AM) of the northbound millinium in Juneau as well, which would have worked nicely in terms of booking Adventure Bound, but we wanted to be on the northbound Island Princess due to it's cruising through college fjord. Splitting a b2b between two different cruise lines & ships certainly isn't the easiest way to sail, but it allows us to see glacier bay, college fjord and hubbard glacier.

I agree it may be somewhat premature to attempt booking 2014 excursions in 2013, but on our 2012 Alaska cruise some of the most popular excursions did fill up ahead of time (FISHES in Icy Strait Point, and Avid Anglers Charters in Ketchikan). There is absolutely nothing wrong with locking in something you want to do as soon as it becomes available.

  12. And you know there were no walk ups?

I am referring to the need to reserve in 2013 for a 2014 tour.

Are they now, offering refunds for no shows? If they aren't, then this could be another reason to consider walk up. I have never reserved with them, but I also am off the ship first, know exactly where their office is.

Assuming that Adventure Bound has a 8:30AM or later departure offered in 2014, would a 8:00AM arrival in Juneau allow one to reach the Adventure Bound? Last year our Celebrity Alaska southbound cruise didn't reach port until 9:00AM and there was no possibility of getting on Adventure Bound's tour.

If they don't normally book up, the doing it on a walk-on basis would be the safest way to go.

This is on the Adventure Bound website:

"Vessels do not wait for late passengers. No refund for late passengers. Check your boarding pass for the time you need to be on board."

  13. Thanks everyone. I was thinking it's way too early to try and make a reservation for 2014 with Adventure Bound. I'll just wait, and maybe towards the end of the 2013 Alaska cruise season Adventure Bound will be taking 2014 reservations. Just wanted to get this locked in as soon as posible since everyone raves about how great the tour is.

  14. My DW and I will be traveling on a Princess northbound in late July 2014. We are also interested in going on a Tracy Arm Fjord Tour, either through the cruiseline, or on Adventure Bound. We will be in port 8AM - 9PM. Given the fact we are 18 months out from the cruise date, no excursions are listed. Is it likely Princess will offer this excursion or we'd be able to book with Adventure Bound, as their website cites a 7:45 boarding and 8:30am departure. Any major difference between the cruise line tour (which I believe is Major Marine?) and Adventure Bound?
