  1. Thanks. I have Chrome and IE, and neither of them will print out the pass using Windows 10.

Have you printed any other documents since upgrading to Windows 10?

After my upgrade I had to re-install printer driver. If driver present check it is default driver/printer.

  2. Stopping off in Cambodia as part of cruise for 5 hours but have been told we need to take malaria tablets. Really don't like sound of side effects but also don't want to risk malaria. Any suggestions what to use to prevent bites. Do I need tablets for such short trip? Any help appreciated

    Hi,

check out the following website as this is one of the sites the NHS/GP's use:

    http://www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/destinations/asia-(east)/cambodia.aspx

Oh and check out Amazon UK for 100% Deet as most if not all the chemists I've checked out only have 50% or less.

    Andy :)

Yes, you are correct. ON our last two cruises the 5% was waived because we were in a PH but, at the current rates, purchasing OBC in the UK will get you dollars for your use on shore at a rate much better than you can anywhere else even if you do have to pay the 5%.

Thanks Sue, yes I'd done my sums and as you say even with the 5% charge still come out tops :)

  4. I think 'Project_Gal' has answered a question I had but just to get a definitive answer maybe someone can put my mind at rest please.

I'm thinking of purchasing OBC (gifted) as currently will get a good rate. My understanding is that I can go to the casino and get REAL money (US dollars) cash at any point in the cruise is this correct? Am aware of the 5% charge levied!

This money I'd use ashore for private excursions etc....

  5. I am beyond shocked at the prices. I looked at the information, and I even went to the Holland America website.

How can Holland America sell liquor for less than HALF the price of at least two other similar cruise lines?

Because X charge ridiculous prices compared to some other lines for individual drinks, bottles or packages. P&O couple of weeks back bought 1L Smirnoff £10 so less than $20. Also bar prices reasonable.

Last time I sailed Fred Olsen drinks package £10/day, MSC I think was £27/day which included gelato and speciality coffees so again good value (latter may have changed now).

  6. We shall be boarding Ventura soon on a four night mini cruise to Belgium and Guernsey. I was wondering what everyone's thoughts were about getting the most out of a mini cruise.

Are there certain aspects of a cruise that you must do despite limited time?

Or would you be more inclined to relax on board and recharge your batteries? What do you think is missing (apart from days obviously!) with shorter cruises.

We haven't sailed Ventura before and will be sailing with our children who are 13 and 10. I would welcome general comments about mini cruises or more specific information about Ventura. :)

Hi, am on this cruise too with same aged children plus am originally from Suffolk so 'spooky' lol.

First time on P&O and hoping my girls can enrol in the appropriate kids clubs as we took a tour onboard 2 years ago and they loved the idea of a club.

Hoping we can tender into Guernsey, buses very cheap there and can do a round the island on normal bus for £1 each (bus 91/92).

    Andy & Jane

  7. Had that happen with a P&O cruise and thought I'd see what they'd say.

Basically nothing except re-book which obviously isn't financially viable in most cases. One of those common situations, chance you take as prices go up and down all the time but at least you know you are booked and have cabin you want :)

Would be interesting if anyone has had success with 'X' UK though as am booked later this year

  8. Can only speak for Genoa, basically an easy flat walk from cruise terminal turn right along the front past the maritime museum you will see a sort of square across the road where lots of little alley ways branch off.

When I got off at the port they had tour buses right outside trying to push people to take them. I went on a much cheaper seaside type train/bus from the square I mentioned. Took about 45 minutes so short n sweet but well worth it compared to what the other tours cost. I then checked out some of the places I'd seen on foot after the train thingy finished!

  9. Or:

    Documentation:

If you are not the child's legal guardians, you should also have two further documents with you. The first should be a direction from his parents giving you permission to travel with their child. This document should have the exact date and destination of travel as well as flight numbers etc. The documents should be signed and notarised to provide comfort that it is real. The second is a notarised letter from the parents giving permission for medical care. You may never be asked for these documents but for the little effort it will take to have them better safe than sorry. If your grandchild’s parents are divorced, it is especially important that documents are signed by both parents, as sometimes children are taken out of the UK during custody disputes.

If you are travelling within the UK, remember to pack your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC – available from the Post Office or apply online). It helps ensure some or all of your health costs will be covered if there is a mutual arrangement between the UK and the country you are visiting. Remember that the EHIC isn't an alternative to travel insurance, as it will not cover any private medical healthcare or the cost of things such as lost or stolen property. For these reasons and others, it is important to have both an EHIC and a valid private travel insurance policy. Some insurers now insist you hold an EHIC and many will waive the excess if you have one.

Hope the above posts shed some light. I'm a divorced parent so slightly easier for me (I hope) as only need to get my ex to sign a letter of consent but must contain dates, details, any flight numbers, contact details etc. Not always required but am playing safe! Plus I have parental responsibility which means little for the non resident parent.

  10. See below:

The Home Office says that, if you are travelling with a child aged under 18 years and are either not the child’s parent or you don’t appear to be the parent (for example, if you have a different surname), staff may ask a few questions to establish your relationship. Carrying evidence of this relationship or documents explaining the reason for travelling isn’t compulsory but can speed up the process.

It says such evidence might be a copy of a birth or adoption certificate showing your relationship with the child; divorce or marriage certificates if you are the parent but have a different surname; or a letter from one or both of the child’s parents, with contact details, giving consent for the child to travel with you. Full details of regulations that apply at the UK border are on the UK Border Agency website, ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk (click on “Customs and travel information”).

  11. Went on IOS to Norway in 2013, then it was 15% on top of drinks. I like a drink although not to excess, but the drinks package like on most American lines was too expensive to be worth while and glad I didn't as my bill was much lower doing PAYG. Often had cocktail of the day which was cheaper plus given the cocktail glass as souvenir each evening.

Entertainment was on the whole good, the promenade had a great atmosphere and only very congested when they had the parade etc...

We found the food and snacks thru the days good, we also had to ask for extra veg but it was no trouble and the veg did vary (at times).

Cabin was kept spotless, steward fantastic and nothing too much trouble if ran out of anything, ice required etc...

My only grumble is due to the fact of the capacity of passengers and the nights being somewhat cooler in Norway that everyone stayed inside in the evenings and on a couple of occasions could not get seating in any of the bars/lounges with entertainment going on (probably applicable to most large ships).

Would certainly cruise with RCI again if right price and itinery :)

  12. As previous poster has suggested, join appropriate roll call if one exists.

We are on a November sailing which starts/ends in Singapore and our flight back to UK is very late night however we have opted to transfer to airport as planned, deposit baggage in left luggage (approx. $8) then register for the daytime 'free' 2 hour Singapore tour, then hopefully do the same in the evening for the 'free' 2 hour night tour.

There are gardens, sculptors and cinema etc at the airport :)

  13. Yes your right, wouldn't have made sense if my post was left without the other persons.

I had been following the post from the beginning and refrained from putting my twopenny worth in but felt compelled in the end at the arrogance of such a person maybe putting people off trying a gym such as Warringtonian has stated above.

I say your on holiday, give it a go :)

  14. We always put my husbands in our case too. Going from Southampton we usually take 3 cases and don't cram things in. I fold his dinner suit carefully and it comes out without any creases at all. If it is creased the option is there on board to have it pressed but we have never had to do this as yet.

Not only packs her husband but has husbands, how many you got lucky lady? Explains the amount of suitcases I suppose lol :D

  15. We are in Tenerife 10 -7pm , would we have time to go through the center of the islands to Teide and then Masca and up the west coast back to Santa Cruz?

If we could only visit one or two beaches in the Canaries what would anyone suggest? Also one of the reasons for this cruise is to find a place to go for a month or so once we retire, Canadian winters can be brutal! Any suggestions as to areas to look at for month long rentals?

    Thanks Karen

You would obviously lose time at each end of the day picking up/dropping off the hire car but having driven round Tenerife last year I'd say it was possible but with limited times for stopping anywhere as the west coast although very beautiful is a windy and mountainous drive and quite tiring.

Easiest route to Teide I'd say was to head north to Puerto de la Cruz (lovely place as LT states) and just before you drop into Puerto you will see brown Teide Park signs off to your left. After Teide head roughly south towards Playa las Americas, if short on time look round that area and then head north back towards Santa Cruz if have at least 4 hours left then head west from Playa area and keep going as eventually you will get back to Puerto then onto Santa Cruz.

  16. I remember a couple of years back chatting to a few US couples/families that were going on the same cruise as us and we all arranged to meet up. We attended the meeting place and no one there.

We ended up making friends with our fellow diners who were fellow Brits. On a more recent cruise we paired up many times with fellow Brits on board and ashore, did chat to some other nations but they seemed to stick with their own.

Everyone is different, as is every cruise :)

  17. There was nothing to grumble about and everyone we spoke to really enjoyed themselves too :)

Happy 30th and good to hear you had a lovely time.

Can you tell me if still doing theme nights and if so what theme plus any late night dancing/bars open please?

  18. We are planning on hiring a car from the port to get to mount teide and are planning on going up in the cable car, I cant really find any reviews on anyone doing this for some reason, I just want to check we are going to have enought time, our ship docks at 10.30am so we should have picked up the hire car by around 11.30am, we set sail at 7.30pm.

its around 1 hour 30 to get to teide and by the looks of the website for the cable car they must stop after lunch for siesta? As there is no time for 2 hours during the afternoon, anyone have any experience?

Hi, we were on holiday in Puerto de la Cruz last year and had a hire car. The park is well sign posted from various parts of the island but I'd head north towards and past the North Airport towards Puerto and watch for the Teide National Park signs off to your left.

Very windy roads, great views and well worth the visit. Stop off to check out the desert like landscape before you get to the cable car. We arrived to find big ques out in the sun so take hats and sun cream. About an hour after we were up on Teide there were no ques. Great views looking down on the clouds. Car ran all day, check following site: http://www.telefericoteide.com/en/prices-and-opening-times

Time wise you should make it ok! :)
