  1. Thanks for your replies.

I never thought about booking a twin instead of solo....but I did think the opposite,,,,If I'm sailing solo and paying for a 2, maybe treat my friend/brother to a cruise".

Anyways, I ended up not booking for various reasons, (waiting for my 'cruise buddies' to make up there minds, oh and falling asleep due to shift work lol) . But thanks again for your replies and input.

    Cheers

  2. Looking at an 11 day cruise on Carnival Spirit that's included in the current 72hr sale/sail.

I'll be traveling solo and the cruise I'm looking at has 3 rooms available.

Guaranteed Ocean View $189 per day.

    G'tee Balcony is $209 p/day

    G'tee Interior is $173 p/day

I like working it out on a daily rate, easier to compare to other holidays (hotel rates + airfares etc).

This will be my 2nd cruise, I had a balcony on my 1st cruise &, loved it, but its not a deal breaker (maybe toss a coin to decide between ocean view or balcony hehe)

The sale ends tonight, good deal?

  3. G'day, I'm looking at an 11 day cruise in October on Carnival Spirit that's included in the current Carnival 72hr sale that ends tonight.

I'll be traveling solo and the cruise I'm looking at has 3 rooms available.

Guaranteed Ocean View AUD189 per day.

    G'tee Balcony is $209 p/day

    G'tee Interior is $173 p/day

This is my 2nd cruise and I had a balcony last cruise, loved it but its not a deal breaker.

The sale ends tonight, is this a good/realistic daily rate?

  4. Thanks for the feedback.

I think i was very lucky last year, especially for a solo cruiser!

Last year in May, I booked a 'Guarantee Balcony' on Carnival Legend (Deck 6) for 8 (or was it 9?) nights and it was $2,100 which worked out about $230 per day.

I'm hoping to find something around that (daily) price again, I've got my eye on either a 12 or 16 day cruise, more sea days with a couple of ports as well.

    cheers

  5. Getting ready to book my 2nd cruise after having a ball on my 1st cruise in October 2016 with Carnival Legend (love those sea days!).

Last year I booked a 'guaranteed balcony' for 9 nights for AUD 2,100 but looking at 2017 cruises this won't even get me a interior cabin! for around the same period/length hehe.

I loved the balcony but this time am going for a window or interior room.

I booked in June last year, so maybe I need to wait a little longer. (Can't wait to sail again!)

    cheers

  6. Just back from 9 nights Sydney - New Caledonia cruise, I absolutely loved it & I'm ready to sail again

I'm a 1st timer cruiser (since my last cruised in 1985!).

Food was great, meet some new cruising buddies, balcony room was nice to have but not a deal-clincher for future cruises.

'Rodeo Drive' shopping experience wasn't that special, I can find cheaper men's aftershaves (etc) here in Australia (Chemist Warehouse etc).

In this digital age where everone has a camera on there phones etc, are they (overpriced) cruise photographers really essential? Oh, and are the themed nights really just for the photographers? (sarcasms aside! hehe)

As mentioned, i absolutely loved the cruise, wasn't too keen on the entertainment but it wasn't anything that detracted or would spoil the cruise for me.

Entertainment wise, the same band played in Red Frog Pub each night.

Also 2 'lounge' duo acts (singer/piano players) and 2 guitarist/singers that rotated from bar to bar each night.

I spent a lot of day time in (Adults only) Serenity Bar. The 'serenity' only broken by the constant (loud) cocktail blender going full tilt most of the time haha! But was a great area to hang out (also kid free!)

Serenity closed at 8pm which is a shame as is a better 'bar' than the Red Frog. Would prefer to drink under the stars.

Also I think Serenity is under 'entertained' compared to other areas of the Ship. The pools in the middle had DJ's most days, Serenity had some 'chilled' background music and a singer/guitarist playing during the sea days.

The same band played in Red Frog each night, they played a pretty 'safe' selection of covers, I didn't hang out there too long but did hear the same songs being played by all the live entertainers. I would have preferred the band to have themed nights (blues, disco, rock) rather than play a mish-mash of covers.

I passed thru 'Follies' theatre a few nights, didn't stay long (i hate musicals) but the shows felt like 'fancy dress karaoke', (over-)singing & dance moves over backing tracks (as there was no live band). Plenty of clothing changes, themed nights (a 'souless-ly sung' Motown show, "the Brits" "Epic Rock") and typical 'over-singing' associated with live musicals.

Shame they didn't use the band that played in Red Frog instead of backing tracks.

Anyway, I know you can't please everyone all the time (lol) but i did absolutely love it and would do it again in a heartbeat.

I should add that i play in a band and have DJ'd before so can understand the need for a 'safe' playlist.

    cheers

  7. Hey Tigerlil' thanks for the great review. I've just booked a similar cruise (but skipping Vanuatu) in October.

This will be my first Cruise since the mid-80's. This was a Fairstar (or Fairsky?) 'booze cruise' around the South Pacific.

Sharing a 4 bunk windowless cabin with 3 strangers, located at water level the sound of loud pounding & crashing water against the walls to rock me to sleep. The room was so small large enough for 4 bunks and a tiny shower that wouldn't drain.

My (vague) memories of this cruise was that it was like being trapped in a floating RSL Club (aussie drinking & gambling reference).

I was young (20?) and I can't remember too much, but do remember always being one of the first off the Ship at each Port, my little sea legs running away from the Ship! LOL

Always remember laughing as the Ship rolled, the crowd on the dance floor moving 'as one' to the left & then back to there original positions.

Thankfully, the Ships have changed since then (and so have I hehe).

I'm sailing solo and have booked into a nice Balcony room on Legend.

Looking forward to a holiday that starts after a 25min train trip to Circular Quay (Sydney) & not having to deal with Airports, Flights etc.

    Bring it on!

Excited now as my Guaranteed Balcony Cabin has been confirmed on the Upper Deck (5127) which seems to have an extended balcony.

Looking at the deck plan, this is above the 'Follies Lounge'...so i guess I can expect so noises from below. Still have 2 months to go, geez, its gonna be a slow countdown until sailing...

    cheers

  9. G'day, sorry my question was 'vague' (LOL).

It's my first cruise and I'm going to be sailing on my own.

I think my underlying concerns are being 'enclosed' in the cabin/room, be it an Ocean View or Interior Cabin, so hence the 'vague' question.

I love the idea of the balcony for fresh air and not feel 'enclosed' as well as somewhere to chill out.

As a side question, do the Interior Rooms have TV webcam streams from the ship to mimic a window?

  10. G'day, I'm looking for a Solo Cruise around August September 2015 as my next holiday.

I'm looking for a relaxing 'holiday' experience after spending many years holidaying overseas.

This wil be my first cruise since a blurred 10 day 'Fairstar' cruise back in the mid-80's, sharing a 4 berth cabin with 3 strangers, showers that flooded, feeling like i was trapped in an RSL club and the sound of water slapping against the ship as our cabin was at water level. hehe.

I'm nervous about being trapped on a "Bogan-on-Sea Cruise" (yes some of my friends are bogans that have been on these cruises! LOL) but feel that on a large ship, maybe a 9-12 day cruise around August / September would be ok.

I'm getting used to 'single cabin shock' and have seen some 'ok' prices on P&O (1,700+) on Pacific Pearl/Jewel, I'm keen for an exterior view as like 'natural' light rather than a room without windows.

I'm 51 male, still a bit of 'kid' at heart and like having fun on holiday so not ready for the "grey nomads-on-sea" yet (haha), just looking for good fun time and hopefully meet up with a few other like-minded solo'ers on the high seas.

Are there any Cruise Lines that are more 'solo' friendly that others, and have solo meetings to meet others?

Also F.O.D (Friends of Dorothy) friendly would be nice (but not essential).

Also, do all Cruises book out in advance? or is it worth keeping an eye out for online specials and promotions.

Any tips / feedback is appreciated.

    Cheers

    Brett
