  1. We got to the port around 10:30 or so. Check in was fast and we sat in the area for suite guests. Short wait to board but was on board by 11:00 or so. We were one of the first ones on the ship. Windjammer opened at 11:30, so I had the first drink bought on the ship at around 11:10! :D

We are a D2 Balcony so how does this enter the equation with boarding :)

  2. I am on the same cruise...nice to meet you...have you been over to the roll call? I was wondering about transportation as well. We are flying in the day before and probably the day after...we might be staying at the Mariott near the hotel since we don't get in until 2 or 3 Saturday afternoon....

It is much less to rent a car then drop it back off at the Port :) There are several car companies that allow this.

  3. Have a few questions about the FOS. We are set to go in August and have a large family going. It will be 6 adults, and 3 kids- ages 4, 9, 14.

    1. Are there any theme nights? How do I find out what/when?

    2. Is Sorrento's free? If so, what sorts of things are offered there?

    3. Is the ship pretty handicapped accessible? My 4 yr old has special needs and we will either be bringing her wheelchair/stroller. Pictures I see of the promenade seem to have many staircases. Are we going to be going out of our way a lot to hit elevators to navigate the ship?

    4. We want to do many things as a family, but also want the kids to be able to have a good time doing what they want in the adventure ocean program. Does it seem that we can have both? I like things like the trivia games, or family game shows, etc. Will the younger kids be bored while we are participating? and is it even easy for us to participate?

    5. I would love to hear any ideas for shore excursions (eastern caribbean). Things that would be easy for us to get away for a bit with the older children, but not too far away. OR what beaches are the best, esp. for my 4 yr old with special needs.

    Thanks a lot!!

When are you guys going in Aug? We are there for the Aug 15th sailing :) I also noticed you're from VA too.. We live in Glen Allen.

  4. Boyfriend and I are going on our first cruise (Carnival) next month, very excited! This thread has been pretty helpful (never would have thought to bring a power strip!), although we're going to go against some of the advice here. :)

    Anyway, a couple of questions:

What's the dress code for the "formal" night? I keep reading conflicting advice, and boyfriend does not currently own a suit/tux (or a jacket, I don't think)--would a shirt and tie be ok if we decide to do the formal thing?

This is a dumb question, especially from someone who has traveled internationally, but what currencies to Caribbean ports accept (Nassau, Half Moon Cay, Grand Turk)?

On formal night you will see anything from Tux to shirt and ties. Wear what you are comfortable in wearing. My hubby and I had great pictures of him in dark suite/tie and me in a long black dress with glittery jacket. On the second formal night I used the same black dress with a shawl instead of jacket :) Never would know unless I told you !

As far as currency went we were in ST Thomas and St Marten and used US currency in both ports. Someone correct me if I am wrong since its been about 8 years in those ports

  5. E1. All rates dropped for two adults and one child - so combined it was just under $700 (more like $660, but I get carried away some times).

E1 is one above us so that was a great drop!!!! $660 is close enough to $700 in my book :)

Does your screen name WOG have to do with a Navy term? My husband is a WOG and Bluenose... I get them confused LOL Funny story: I surprised him and had a diploma framed for his birthday. Thinking it was some important Navy award WELLLLLLLLLL turns out it was his WOG or Bluenose initiation award LOL We proudly have it hanging in the den :)

  6. Thank you Lew for the quick rely. Will do this but then what??

    I'm new to all this!

If you booked through Royal call them so they can reduce the price for you. However if you booked through a travel agent you have to call them for the reduction. I thought the reduction was given as an OBC(on board credit) but its not if you haven't made your final payment. The price is lowered on what you have left to pay. After the final payment is made then any price reduction come back as OBC. Keep checking it daily because i've read there can be more than one drop :)

    Good luck!!!

  7. Thanks Lew. I made a call to my Travel Agent. Are you doing any sailing/snorkling on St. Thomas?

We are going to Coki beach/Coral World and take a tour too. I am going to contact Godfrey to see if he can do his tour and allow us to shop since our ship isn't arriving until 11 am. I have also kicked around the idea of renting a room for the day at one of the resorts to use their facilities and beach chairs :) St Thomas was awesome when we went there in 2002. Saphire beach isn't too nice now from what i've read so we are trying to figure out what to do.

Have you figured out what you're doing in ST Thomas?

    Lew

  8. Greg we booked a private tour today for St Maarten with Joyce Prince. I am so thrilled to have our own tour guide with only our family :) How cool is that? We are going to snorkel/swim and see the island in St Thomas but in St Maarten only tour and SHOP :)

Last time we were in St Thomas we used Godfrey tours he is AWESOME! The bad part of us arriving at 11 is it cuts down on the shopping time of his tour. Maybe he could reverse it if you want. His tours include seeing the island and swimming at Cocki Beach home of Coral World I read :) We want to go there also. Never saw it before.

    Good luck in finding excursions....
