  1. If it helps, the courses you should expect on a Viking ship are as follows:

    Amuse bouche

    Starter

    Main

    Desert

    Cheese

I know Viking do accommodate people selecting more than one item from a particular course when they can, so some will have both soup and salad for example even though they are 'officially' from the same course.

Actually the "Starter" includes appetizers, salads and soups, so I wouldn't say they are "officially" from the same course.

I think it's designed so most people think they can just order one thing.

But we NEVER had any issue with ordering more than one. And I didn't feel we were being accomodated at all.

  2. The Cruise Companies don't want to provide this information in advance as they fear people will try and cancel.

We were on the Grand European Tour with Viking departing Budapest August 8th. We were aware of the low river levels, but there was never any official word from Viking of a potential ship swap.

It was only as we departed Passau, with the ship heading back downriver to Austria, that we were informed of a ship swap in two days and the necessity for two days of bussing.

We were then essentially hostage to their plans.

  3. I'm glad your Viking Rep took ownership and got you on your way. Ours did not!

We had the same type of transfer on the 22nd from Rotterdam after our Grand European Cruise.

Our bus left late because our Driver was angry that he had to load all of our luggage. Once on our way, we asked him if he could turn on the Air Conditioning as it was getting very stuffy. He spoke little English but said it was on, when it was clearly not.

After an hour and a half ride in a sweltering bus, we were stopped by a barrricade set up for the Sail Event. We were within blocks of the hotel. He proceeded to turn around and we headed back the way we came. He made some turns and after about 20 minutes we arrived at the very same barricade. It was clear that he didn't know where he was going.

He then turned around again and started to head back the way we had come twice already. We figured he was taking us back to Rotterdam.

He stopped beside a garbage truck and was clearly asking for directions.

Finally after three hours on the bus, we arrived at the hotel. The Viking Rep came on and asked which ship we were from. She didn't really apologize, but ordered some taxis for a few people then disappeared.

We were walking to our hotel, so left. That was our last impression of Viking!

  4. First of all - thanks to Danish Viking for all his great information.

I know this has been discussed but I'm trying to confirm the best way to use Public Transit from Kong Arthur Hotel to Oceankaj on August 27th to board Eurodam.

There has been lots of discussion about Bus 26 - but how close will it actually get to the ship? I understand there are multiple terminals there and they don't tell you the exact one that will be used.

It doesn't show up on Google Maps.
