  1. We took the Goethe from Koblenz to Rudesheim, it departed at 9 AM , it made many stops along the Rhine picking up and dropping off travelers. It was very relaxing and enjoyable, an excellent way to experience the castle section of the Rhine for a fraction of the cost. The beer was outstanding and reasonably priced, we also passed quite a few Viking longships along the way

  2. When we bicycled the Mosel I observed many different river boats traveling on the river. I think the route from Trier to Koblenz is my favorite one to travel , we did a river cruise 17 years ago and then decided to take the same trip but bicycle it this time with no regrets. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a bicycling holiday experience, very flat , easy to navigate, great wine along the way, beautiful towns to stop at along the way too

  3. We did pack light , 2 small bags each and luggage was left out 9 AM each day and taken to our next hotel. We have used Eurobike for our trips, yes weather can be a big issue , rain jacket , rain pants , shoe covers and waterproof gloves are a must. I wear bike shorts and never had a seat issue , I have also bought my own saddle to make sure I’m comfortable, most of the cycling is 20-30 miles a day I think my longed in Bavaria was 48 miles , I cycled the Erie Canal in July from Buffalo to Albany and that was 400 miles and I did 2 days of 65 miles

  4. We started in Trier and picked up our bikes there at our first hotel close to the river and when we finished in Koblenz we left our bikes. This was a very easy to do bicycle trip. This past September we did a Bavarian Bicycle trip that was more extensive, longer and more difficult. We landed in Munich and took a train to Bernau which is close to Lake Chiemsee, we bicycled a big loop going to Berchtesgaden , Salzburg and back around the Lake. We experienced rainy and cold weather which made the biking difficult, this coming September 2023 we are doing a Bike and Barge trip on the Fluvious starting in Amsterdam , and finishing in Bruges

  5. In September 2022 my wife and I did a bicycling trip along the Mosel , we landed in Frankfurt took the train to Koblenz and then to Mosel. We were able to walk from the train station to our hotel near the river. Our first day of riding we went 29 miles to Trittenheim , the next day 24 miles to Zeltinger, the next day 25 miles to Zell, the next day 31 miles to Treis-Karden and the last day 26 miles to Koblenz It was a wonderful trip , so much better than a river cruise, drank delicious wine and ate fabulous food too. Late September was perfect weather ,it never rained at all. I would highly recommend this bicycle trip , very flat, easy to navigate and bicycle trail most of the way . After our overnight stay in Koblenz we took the paddle wheel steamer Goethe to Rudesheim stayed there 2 nights and took the train back to Frankfurt. One of our favorite bicycle stops was Bielstein , a beautiful tiny town that the river ships go by and was very lovely

  6. We had a group of 14 travel from JFK to Amsterdam last month, we did not want to hump our luggage on the train so we opted to hire a car service. We used Rudy's taxi service, they met us with a sign in the airport, they had 2 vans and took us to our hotel in Dam Square. Our flight arrived early and they check the flights for early arrivals and delays too. It was a little more than public transportation but landing at 5:30 AM it was well worth it, we took public transportation from Dam Square to Central Station and walked to our Viking ship

  7. Have noticed this morning that the Mani is in Niehl - may be going to stay a while so that it doesn't get to Amsterdam too early.  I don't think it is carrying passengers at the moment as it has only just started to move since the 9th November if my investigations have been correct.

We departed the Mani in Basel on November 9th, from what we were told the Mani was being sent away for repairs, the shaft was bent, something happened when the water was low. We started on the EIR and ship swapped to the MANI and in Basel everything on the MANI was transferred to the IDI, we had a departing lunch on that ship.

  8. We just returned Friday , started on the Viking Eir in Amsterdam and finished on the Mani in Basel. Overall Viking did an excellent job with the low water situation, we were on the Eir until the Marksburg Castle, the we hopped on a bus for 45 minutes and took a smaller ship through the Rhine Gorge, they handed us a beer when we stepped on the boat and had lunch too , the weather was perfect and we saw all the castles . When we got off we took a bus to Strasbourg , this was a 2 hour bus trip, most slept on the bus and we arrived for a 7 PM dinner, we stayed in Strasbourg 2 nights, the next day was a 11/2 hour bus ride to Heidelberg and Viking provided lunch at a restaurant. The next day we toured Strasbourg and walked into Khel for a beer before going back on the ship. We missed Koblenz and Rudesheim , other than that it was an excellent cruise and vacation. There was minimal bus riding and plenty of cruising on the Rhine.

  9. We are on the Viking Eir and docked in Cologne, we are leaving tonight and headed to Braubach , getting on a smaller ship tomorrow and going through the gorge, then bussed to Strasburg. Missing Rudesheim this trip , so far Viking is doing an excellent job communicating with us about the trip , I’m sure they will continue with ship swaps and not want to get a ship stuck above or below the gorge

  10. We are also scheduled with Viking for the Amsterdam to Basel cruise departing November 2nd . Today we received the email from Viking that we are departing on the Eir instead of the Mani. It appears the Rhine needs a month of solid rain to get to it's proper level. We are going to make the best of it having booked this trip 14 months ago. I am hoping for minimal bus riding and a ship swap will not be the worst thing. Rain is predicted this weekend but I doubt it will improve the level very much.

  11. We were on a Viking River cruise in August 2015 and stayed at the Mercure Bordeaux Cite Mondiale Centre Ville Hotel in Bordeaux. This hotel was easy to get to from the airport, 2 buses and a short walk, plus it is a short walk to where the boats are docked. It was walking distance to restaurants, and downtown too.

  12. We did the Rhine cruise departing from Basel with Viking, we flew into Basel a day early, took the bus to the downtown area, checked into our hotel which was Hotel Euler, reasonable and very convenient. we had dinner in Basel and checked out the Christmas Markets. The next day we got up early and took the train to Lucerne, it was about an hour ride. We did our sightseeing, Christmas Market shopping, had lunch, took the train in the afternoon back to Basel, picked up our luggage at the hotel and took a cab to the Viking boat. The Hotel Euler is about 2 blocks to the train station and walking distance to the shopping area and Christmas market location. The bus stop from the airport was a block away from the hotel and a short ride too

  13. I was on the Viking Star in January and ate at Manfredi's restaurant twice, the food was amazing. We traveled with another couple so we ordered a variety of different items, the portions were generous and we over ate each time, we are on the Viking Mani in October and looking forward to eating at Manfredi's again ! Thanks for the information
