  1. I haven't cruised since precovid. We are booked for the December 10 cruise on the Venezia. Are nice shorts allowed in the main dining room for dinner?

If your response is for me to search previous threads or a snarky response, please move on. I just want to know we if there has been any changes in acceptable dress in the last 5 years.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Posters seem to either keep forgetting or never understood the reason for face masks. It doesn't have anything to do with your immunity.  Someone totally immune to the Coronavirus can still harbor the virus in their nasal passage or mouth and throat.  Therefore, any sneezing, coughing, clearing the throat and talking and breathing can spread the virus.

Masks are worn to protect others!

  3. We just returned from our 7 night cruise on the Carnival Dream and have mixed feelings about the ship and the cruise.

The Pros: We loved leaving from New Orleans (first time for that) because we were able to spend 2 days in that wonderful city.

The crew of the Dream was very friendly and professional and dealt with any concerns immediately and with a smile. We asked to change cabins because our original stateroom was 6432 and was right above a smoking area so using our balcony was problematic. The young man at Guest Services, Kermit Turnquest went out of his way to find a comparable cabin and was able to give us a cabin on Deck 9 because there was a no show passenger.

We had Your Time Dining and we were fortunate to get two different wonderful Headwaiters, Jose and Novita.

The food was very good in the main dining room. The buffet on Lido Deck was average with the exception of the fresh omelets and eggs which were very good. Guys Burgers, The Pig and Anchor BBQ, the burrito bar, Mongolian Wok, The Tandoor Indian food, and the pizza station where all excellent and very popular.

Ports of Call were Montego Bay, where we went to Doctor's Cave Beach, Grand Cayman where we rented a cabana at Royal Palms Beach, and Cozumel. Since we have been to Cozumel countless times, we just walked around the port area for some shopping and then returned early to the ship which he had almost to ourselves for most of the time in port.

The Cons: Drinking water both from the taps in the stateroom and from the pitchers poured at dinner had a funky taste. This did not improve as the cruise went on.

2 days from the end of the cruise the bracket that holds the shower head broke so that the shower head slid down to about belly button height. Fortunately the shower head can be used as a hand held shower head so all we had to do was remove the head from the bracket and use it that way. An annoying, but minor inconvenience.

Although the ship has recently come out of dry dock, the carpets in the rooms were not replaced and were showing their age.

The water in the hot tubs could have been hotter but still definitely usable.

The first two days at sea were very windy, making use of balconies pretty much impossible (I know, not the ships fault). Every few seconds there was a loud banging noise which some people mentioned might have been malfunctioning stabilizers. This was particularly bothersome for the first two nights while trying to sleep. Also, the divider between the balconies was rattling like crazy, adding to the noise. When the ship left the Gulf of Mexico and entered the Caribbean the winds died down and we had smooth sailing.

Overall, we enjoyed the cruise but the Dream is not our favorite ship. The crew was terrific and the weather ended up being beautiful.

  4. Does anyone have any information as to when the Constellation might be going into Dry Dock? We are considering cruising on her in October, 2017 and I have read several reviews of recent cruises that indicated that the Connie is in need of TLC.

  5. We will be in Montego Bay in March 2017 on the Carnival Dream. Will the ship dock there or is this a tender port? Also, any recommendations on beaches in the Montego Bay area?

Thanks in advance for any help.

  6. We are considering the Dawn for a March 5th cruise out of New Orleans. One of the ports of cal is Roatan. I can not find out if the ship docks in Mahogany Bay or Coxen Hole, or if there is any chance of tendering since my wife hates ship tenders. Any info would be appreciated.

  7. We are considering a cruise in October which calls on Chania, Crete and Mykonos. I need information as to whether either of these ports is one in which ships tenders are used or if the ship docks. In addiion, this cruise calls on Valleta, Malta, which I believe is a port where the cruise ships do dock.

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

  8. Hopefully, the beds on Anthem are more comfortable than the ones on the Brilliance. We did a 12 night on the Brilliance on a Mediterranean itinerary in September, and everyone was complaining about how hard and uncomfortable the mattresses were. Our cabin steward added a layer of another comforter, but this did not really help.

Enjoy your cruise and don't fret if the beds are not the most comfortable. After all, you are on a cruise!

  9. We are currently booked with RomeINLimo for 3 ports in Italy. If anyone has used them or a similar private tour, how much did you tip the driver? We will be 2 couples in one car.

  10. On the way back.....Giovanni took us to a beachside place so that we could get some gelato! Yum!!

We made it back to the ship a little after six. All aboard was 6:30' date=' so we did well. Boy ......we packed a lot into this day and it was totally worth it. Giovanni was the best.

We were pooped and had very little time to rest before heading out for the evening. We took showers and got ready and headed straight to the lounge for drinks.

We were so tired......we just headed to the Windjammer for a relaxing dinner. The choices were wonderful there and we had a very nice dinner. We enjoyed visiting with Michael and Andrea and Vic and Ann, too. We went straight to bed after that!

[/We are doing this same cruise in September, and are using RomeInLimo as well for 3 different ports. How much did you tip the drivers?

  11. My wife absolutely hates tendering, but we will be on the Brilliance in September for a Mediterranean cruise. Can anyone give me feedback on just how far away does the ship anchor from the tender docks and does the ship utilize its lifeboats or are their contracted ferries to tender passengers? If the tendering is a short distance and seas are calm my wife will be OK.

  12. We just returned from the 7 night voyage of the Emerald Princess. As with just about any cruise we had a fantastic time, mainly because of the two couples we traveled with. Here are some of my observations of the ship.

Embarkation: As this was my first cruise as a Platinum guest, we breezed past the long line outside of the terminal and went immediately to the check-in counter where we got our cruise cards and we were on the ship by 11:40 am. Our cabins were ready so we dropped off our carry-ons and went to the Horizon Court for some lunch.

Cabins: We booked this cruise very late and wanted to get cabins close to our traveling companions. We were able to get cabins R310, R314, and R614. Being on the very high Riviera deck we were concerned that we might feel ship movements, but this cruise may have been one of the smoothest ever. I had not been on a Princess ship in at least 6 years, and I was surprised to see how small the cabins were, probably the smallest cabin I have ever stayed in. There was a desk with a small chair and an armchair that we constantly had to move because it either blocked the sliding door to the balcony or blocked the chair under the desk from being pulled out to use.

The beds were very, very comfortable and the cabin was in excellent shape.

The bathroom was tiny but efficient and of course had that body snatching shower curtain which did little to keep the water in the shower.

Food: We ate all of our dinners in the anytime dining room. Except for one evening the service was excellent and well paced. I was not particularly fond of the menu selections and preparations but I certainly didn't go hungry.

On the second formal night, our party of 6 was led to a table but the Maitre De stopped about 3 tables short of ours, pointed to our table and told us to sit there and then he promptly walked away. Seriously? There were no water glasses on the table and the waiter immediately came over with menus. We asked for water and mentioned we wanted to order something from the bar. After 15 minutes the waiter came back to take our dinner orders....no water glasses, no rolls, no butter and no drinks and bottle of wine we ordered. There were many unoccupied tables so the problem wasn't that the waitstaff was over worked. Just a bad night all around in the dining room.

Over all, we had a wonderful cruise. The last several cruises were on Carnival and RCCL and we appreciated the lack of annoying announcements heard on those other lines. Captain Marco Fortezze was difficult to understand over the speaker system, but hey, his English is way better than my Italian.

This cruise stopped at 4 ports. In Grand Cayman we rented a cabana at Royal Palms. Great location, great beach, good food and service. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate and the day was mostly cloud with intermittent rain showers.

Roatan was beautiful but much more crowded than when I had been there last in 2008, and the proliferation of clam shells on beach loungers prevented views of the water unless you were in the first row. The weather here was beautiful and the water temperature perfect for cooling off.

Cozumel was again a cloudy day and we went to Seaquarium Beach but left after only few hours fearing it might rain (it didn't).

The last day was at Princess Cay. It was a beautiful day but we chose to stay on the ship and have the facilities to ourselves. Again, a beautiful, hot, sunny day.

Strangely, one of the pools, the Neptune pool, was so warm it could have been mistaken for a hot tub. The other pool was somewhat cooler and refreshing.

We are looking forward to another cruise with Princess. We do have a Mediterranean cruise booked on the Brilliance of the Seas in September, 2016, but we will probably do another Princess cruise in the Caribbean next year.

  13. I need some clarification regarding bringing bottles of wine onboard in addition to the 1 bottle per passenger allowed. If I want to bring 4 or 5 additional bottles onboard do I just have to pay the $15.00 per bottle corkage fee or is there also 15% gratuity added to it?

In addition, if I pay the corkage fee can I bring those bottles to dinner in the main dining room, and how do the waiters know that I have paid the corkage fee for the bottle?
