  1. Hi. I have some friends who will be visiting me in Cabo San Lucas. They say that they get into the port at 7:00 a.m. and that they leave at 1pm. Just curious how much time you guys think we'll have together?

So if they say they're getting in at 7 how long will it take them to actually get off the cruise ship and get into the marina? Maybe by 8 or 9 a.m. because they cannot easily just walk off the boat and into Cabo.

Thanks for your thoughts and input.

  2. http://www.hoteldealsrevealed.com is another good source for seeing what hotels are available. There's always risk and there's no sure fire way of knowing for certain 100% what you'll get. BUT... you can usually get it right most of the time, and you'll certainly know the calibre of hotel you'll get. Just remember that Priceline reservations are non-refundable, so don't be too disappointed if you don't get what you were expecting.
  3. The Everglades are very special, especially if you're not from areas that have gators and swampland. We did the official tram tour and loved it, even though we went during dry season. Seeing the gators up close, as well as turtles and birds was great. We're from the west coast so we don't have anything like this at home. If on the other hand, seeing a gator and swampland is nothing special to you, I'd probably skip it.

  4. I've booked Priceline many times for 4 guests (2 adults, 2 kids) and all have been good experiences except one. The hotel didn't have anything but a king bed and no pull out couch. We asked for extra blankets and the kids who were 4 at the time, made a fort to sleep in. We had fun. All other times, we've had no problem, but there is some risk involved. I generally don't risk it now that my kids are older, and I just use Hotwire instead.

Here's a decent article that discusses Priceline for 3 or more guests.

  5. Be prepared to get wet. Make sure you have an umbrella and rain jacket.

I'd recommend walking if nice weather, or else taking a cab and getting dropped off at the inner harbour. Start your journey at the front of the Parliament Buildings, and head north along the Empress hotel and up government street. There are 2 great pubs, both very English. One is called "The Bard and Banker" and the other is "Irish Times". From there, cut through Bastion Square to Wharf Street and head south back to the Inner Harbour.

Alternatively, nice 2 hour bus tour will take you around to all the city highlights.

  6. Priceline

Coupon (5% off): summer (saved $9.75)

I'd been bidding twice daily for the last few weeks...still feel like it's expensive, but keep reminding myself that it IS a "big city" and saw that there's some music festival going on that same weekend. There were a ton of hotels with no vacancy, so am very happy to have this off of my to-do list.

Seattle is generally quite expensive in the summer, but I think you could have gotten the price down if you waited until next May to book. Great hotel though, and a fantastic location.

  7. I am a firm believer that a real world experience trumps school. In the grand scheme of things, taking your kids out of school for a week or 2 (or even a month) isn't going to have a major impact. Sure, there will be some things missed and some catching up to do, but they'll be back and up to speed in no time. Even if impacts their grades, unless their in their final years of high school where grades really matter, I wouldn't sweat it. They're you're kids, and you're the parent. The principal works for YOU.

  8. I agree with the other posters about Fairmont Waterfront and Pan Pacific. Both are great hotels in a good location. There are plenty others in the area that are all great, high end.

Getting a good deal like $40 per night, on the other hand, is going to be tough. August is the busiest travel time of year in Vancouver. You should probably budget more like $150 to $200 for this type of hotel unless you're using Priceline (which you can get a hotel for around $100/night this time of year.

  9. #1 Don't buy the photo's they are very pricey and tend to wrinkle on the way home.

    # 2 Take wine to drink in your cabin , you can bring 2 bottles of wine on board at every stop . Average mixed drink costs $ 7.50 . Beer $ 6.00.

    # 3 Rent the formal ware from the ship saves a lot of weight and worry.

    # 4 Use public transit at the ports , so much cheaper.

    # 5 Stick to 1 cruise line , perks add up fast for frequentcruisers.Freedrinks , free laundry , free internet , free spa,s .

    # 6 If you can do it, don't take a lap top Internet cafe's available at most ports, there are computers on board ( Air time is 56 - 65 cents a minute and very slowwwwwwwwwww average e mail can cost $ 4- 5) not worth it !

Excellent tips. This will save me a lot of money. Just a quick question. You're allowed 2 bottles of wine at EVERY STOP? That's fantastic! Does this apply to all cruiselines, all ports?
