If the seas are rough it does not matter what deck you are on.

I was going to say the same thing.  The amount of motion depends upon the seas.  On the ship itself you will find some areas are less affected than others for motion.  But in rough seas you will feel it everywhere.  And in calm seas the entire ship should be relatively motionless.

I have a daughter that gets motion sick pretty easy.  They last couple of cruises we booked rooms mid ship on deck 4.  She was having issues at the back and front of the ship but did much better mid-ship.

My wife and I will be staying on in an interior Lido deck cabin for the first time on the Panorama in Feb 2020.  Neither of us have issues with motion.

  2. The site was having a lot of issues yesterday but I finally got in about 07:00pm Pacific.  I was able to book two excursions with the discount.  John Heald posted a message on another site that the coupon will be honored again today because of the issues yesterday.

  3. Yes it is true that it will be in Portland for the drydock. Carnival issued a press release on Apr 2 confirming where it would be. I have looked at maps and photos of the area around the drydock. There are public roads about 2 blocks away so it sounds like the public can get pretty close. There is also a bluff that overlooks the drydock. The university of Portland is located here and so I am assuming that I can walk on the school grounds to get to the bluff to see it. Knowing Portland I suspect there may be a public walking trail along the bluff. I live just 20 - 30 mins from the drydock. On May 2 I am going to drive over there to try to get some photos. I also am hoping to find out what time of day or night it is expected to arrive and depart so that I can get some pictures of it sailing in the river to/from the drydock.

  4. I have verified that I will be able to see the drydock. Public roads are just a couple of block away from the drydock. There is also a nearby bluff that looks down on it. I am planning on driving over to it after work on May 2 and try to get some photos. I don't know how good they will be but I will try. I will primarily post them on a social media site I am not allowed to mention here. I will see if I can figure out how to post them here too. I hope I can find out when it will be arriving and departing drydock. There is a waterfront park just upstream from the drydock that would be great to get some sailing photos, maybe even a video.

  5. On April 2 a Carnival press release said the dry dock is in Portland Or. I had been asking the where question too after hearing rumors it would be Portland. I personally am excited to hear this as it is only 20 mins from my house. I will be checking to see if there is anywhere that the public can see the dry dock. I also want to find out when it is expected to arrive at the dry dock and depart. I would love to take some photos of the ship navigating the Columbia and Willamette rivers.

  6. Be aware that some of the food Venues will change (such as burgers are changing the Guys Burgers) between now and the Alaska cruises because the legend will be in dry dock the first 2 weeks of May.

We usually use the laundromat while on a cruise. We have not been on the Legend yet and so I can say for certain but we were on the Breeze one year ago. For that ship you used your Sail and Sign card.

  7. I was not aware of this way to search for deals. Thanks for the info. I suspect I will not be offered much because I am not a gambler and only have about 1 drink per day. I just checked and did not see any great deals.

  8. I know that the 2018 dry dock is still a year away but has anyone heard where it will drydock? Since they will be headed to Alaska I am wondering (hoping) if they are going to do it in Portland Or. This drydock is used for cruise ships from time to time. I live just a few miles from Portland. IF they do drydock here I am hoping I can get a chance to see it going up the Columbia and Wilamette rivers. I would take some time off work to see this if they are navigating the rivers during the day time.

My Alaska cruise on the Legend is not until Aug 2018 and therefore will be after the drydock. I have a 4K room booked.

  9. I have been on both the Breeze an Sunshine. I liked the Breeze MUCH more than the Sunshine. I thought the Sunshine was over-hyped after it was rebuilt. One of the things we enjoy on cruises are the comedy club. It is very poorly designed on the Sunshine.

  10. I just got off the Breeze on April 9. It was fine. Yes some of the carpets were a bit worn but look how much they get used. They were not "that" bad. I was watching for the slippery tiles that so many people complain about. No one from my family found them slippery even once. And we watched other people. We did not see anyone slip. Maybe they have already done something to address the issue. Sometimes things like the soap used for mopping can cause tile to be slippery. At a resturant near my house the tile floor was very slippery. We complained. The next time we went in the issue had been resolved. They responded to us that they changed their mopping technique.

  11. My family also got off the breeze on Apr 9. I agree that it appeared everything was working in Waterworks. Carnival did not tell us what the tender issue was but we are pretty certain we saw the issue. We were watching out a window on the Lido deck. The Belize Port Authority (Coast Guard) kept pulling up to a private boat that was next to the ship. A couple of times the people on that boat provided paperwork to the Port people. I think they went back and forth about 30 mins or so. Shortly after the Port Authority looked like they were satisfied, an announcement came on that the tendering process was going to begin right away. I am wondering if there was concern of this boat being pirates or terrorists. We had already decided that we were not going get off the ship until this was resolved.

What did we do in each port: Mahogany Bay - Used the local beach. It was crowded but we enjoyed it anyway.

Belieze - did some shopping in the port area

Cozumel - This was our only "formal" excursion. We did the $89 dolphin encounter. It was very good and we sent more time with the dolphins than I had expected. The included lunch and drinks was good. I saw no reason to pay for the more expensive dolphin encounters.

Room Temperature - We were comfortable the entire time. We turned it down too cold the first night and had to adjust it. We were in an interior room (9373). I heard people with balconies complaining their rooms were too hot. I suspect they did not close the drapes during the day. This was our 5th Carnival cruise with an interior room. We have never had temperature issues.

For crowds - The Lido deck was very crowded in sea days. And as usuall there were people tying up lounge chairs but not using them. One time I was up early and saw a person set their stuff on a lounge chair at 06:30 am. Several hours later their stuff had not been touched. Another time I was sitting in a lounge chair for quite awhile. There was a folded towel sitting on the chair next to me. My daughter wanted to sit next to me and so I put the towel on the deck under the chair. No one ever came by and claimed I took their chair. Note - There were plently of lounge chairs on the ship as long as you were wiling to sit somewhere other than by the main pool on Lido deck.

Food - We ate breakfast at the buffet every day. Lunch varied: Guys burgers, Italian, Mexican, Buffet. Dinner was always in the main dining room. We had anytime dinning and never waited more than 5 minutes for a table. We usually got there around 06:00pm. We really liked the head waitress the first night. We asked for her station every night after that and always got her. Most nights we sat at the same table. She made an extra effort to assist our daughter that has some physical limitations. (I will be writing a positive review for her tonight to send to Carnival).

  12. Good information and thoughts here. I have been considering for awhile redirecting some of my retirement to purchase 100 shares. My company just went through a spinoff and merger with another company, resulting in the company turning off contributions to the existing 401K. The new company has established a new 401K. I need to decide in the next few months if I should to roll this into another 401K, leave it on it's own, or what I want to do with it. I am likely going to use part of it to purchase 100 shares of CCL and roll the reminder into another existing 401K.

  13. I have always book online directly myself (I booked my 6th cruise tonight, all on Carnival.). I went to a travel agent to book my first cruise. The TA was very helpful in getting me started on how to select a cruise and a room. After about 30 mins she told me that when I decided which cruise I was going to take that she would recommend that I go online myself and book it. I would be able to get a better rate than she could get.

I don't know what everyone is referring to my "PVP". Is that another name for travel agent?

  14. Our family lives in Washington state. Spring break for the public schools in the state is the first week of April. We will be boarding the Breeze on Apr 2. Based upon the prior posts it sounds like this is near the end of spring break season.

On our prior cruises three were in Feb and one was early Dec. It is surprising how many school age kids are on the ship no matter when you go.

  15. I was on the Splendor when she was sailing out of Long Beach. I would sail on her again. Some people complain about the decorating of the Splendor but I did found it to be fine. I have not been on the Breeze yet - sailing on her in April 2017.

The extra day is something I definitely would keep in mind as a plus.

As someone else mentioned, if it were me I would also consider the costs of flying to Galveston vs. Miami, transportation to and from airport, hotel if staying overnight prior to the cruise, etc.

To me just being on a cruise is more important than the destination. The excursions can be fun but they are not the most important thing to me. If you enjoy cruising than you will enjoy it no matter where you go.

  16. I still have not seen a clear answer of what happens if your arrive later then your check-in window. The FAQ just say you will be accommodated. What does that mean? I opened a question with Carnival. There response was a link to the FAQ. And in my question I specifically asked what accommodated means. Very poor response. It could mean they let you on or it could mean they make you wait until the end of the day.

  17. I booked on the Breeze last week for Apr 2 2017. I have not heard about the check-in yet. I have not done the normal check-in step yet. Maybe it comes up then. I am waiting for a few weeks to do the check-in until my daughters school confirms the dates of Spring Break in 2017. They won't announce the 2017 school schedule until sometime in April of this year.

Time to go look at Carnival website. What happens if you check-in for an early time and arrive later?
