  1. If they can't be bothered to do it themselves, they should not get anything

Elaine, unlike me who has a thick skin, and who is used to haters and negativity on-line, these people are not. If I showed them the hurtful words that some posters have kindly written, it would ubset them. They are senior citizens who truely beleive that the world is a nice place.

  2. I was on this cruise, and the seven cruises prior, for a total of 8 straight weeks. We were on deck 2 forward, Room 2216, just under the theater. While we were warned it might be noisy, we experienced none of what you mention.

The ship is currently undergoing a 2 week dry dock. The theater is undergoing changes, but we heard absolutely no extra noise from that area. (And, the grill is not in the sun.)

Sorry your friend had a bad time. For me, that trip will never be matched (even though I'm doing it again next year on The Breeze). I've never been treated better. The crew was unmatched. Friendly, courteous, attentive. The best cruise director I've ever encountered in Kevin Donohue. The best Captain and Hotel Director we've ever had the pleasure of sailing with. I couldn't even begin to name the officers and crew who were wonderful to us and went out of their way to make sure we had a good time.

The weather and stops were perfect.

A cruise is always what you make of it.

    Jodi

    My dear sweet Jodi,

Was the weather so wonderful that the cruise stopped at every single port it was supposed to? OR was the weather horrible and raining, that the cruise did not even dock in Honduras?

SO with that being said, you, my friend have no credibility.

Carnival acknowledged there was a huge issue with the sound! If there was no noise at all, WHY would Carnival give them back money?

  3. Not a chance. If that was the only room...I would NOT go on that cruise even if it was free. You would be miserable after the second night. Plus, a cruise costs a lot more than just the fare...at least to me. My vacation time is almost priceless to me...and spending it without any restful sleep is a no-go every time. Plus you have parking, transportation, etc. So that 30% would likely be less than 20% of the entire out of pocket expenses.

badfinger - you are 100% on point, they had to fly to miami, stay in a hotel, taxis....

Part of vacation is sinking into the super comfy bed, and being rocked into a blissful sleep....

  4. Here are some comments:

    1) They were travelling in a group

    2) I am pretty sure they had no clue about the guarantee (they are in the 60's and don't spend time in CC)

    3) They booked with an agent who placed them in this room, telling them it was a great location

    4) the noise was VERY LOUD. they called many times every night (12:30, 2:30, 4:30), tried ear plugs, and the tv...

    5) why in god name should they sleep on a "comfy sofa" when they spent their entire year allowance on a cruise for a private room where they could get a great night sleep? whoever wrote that - do you ever listen to yourself talk? who says "im going to go to a hotel, but there will be construction and it will disturb me all night, so I will go sleep in the lobby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

    6) it was their second time on the splendor, first time was magnificent, hence why they booked again

    7) if they would have KNOWN in advance about the noise, it would have been their choice to go or not - (getting a discount on the room). Knowing them, they would have NOT gone. The wife is a very light sleeper.

regarding the veggie burger, the wife is pretty sure it came from there. she was sick for 8 hours, and then she was better, so she does not think it was a gastro bug

I am quite shocked that this thread made it to 4 pages! The person who wrote that hotels / all inclusive will mention construction is going on - you hit the nail on the head. I was once going to book an AI, and then we found out from their webpage that the pool was closed. It is access too information.

  5. That is why I will not book a cabin on Deck 6, it is only common space below and no noise reduction at all.

I feel bad for your family members but 30% is a reasonable offer but I do understnad that does not make up for their lack of sleep or enjoyment. Not sure what else you would want CCL to do. They may not have had another cabin available to move them to, and unfortunately night time is the only time some work can be done on a ship.

If they knew major renovations were being done all night long, perhaps consider not opening the cabins to guests? They had friends stay 4 cabins down, and the noise was minimal.

  6. 30% is actually quite generous. They should accept it and try again, hopefully they will have a wonderful time.

If you feel there is more to be done, I can only suggest you contact corporate offices. Only they can do anything about it....certainly not CC members.

I know CC members can't do anything (but thanks for that)... I was wondering if anyone had an suggestions on how to proceed with corporate office (a contact name for example...)

  7. I am writing on behalf of family members who had a HORRIBLE time on the splendor.

they were on deck 6 just above the theatre.

The ship is under major construction, including the theatre. There was drilling, banging, crashing, and destruction ALL NIGHT LONG, for all 7 nights.

They could not sleep at all.

They begged to change cabins, but there were no available.

Carnival offered then 30% off of their cruise fare, but I do not think that is acceptable, they were not able to enjoy their cruise at all.

On top of it all, one person got food poisoning from a veggie burger.

Anyone know how to proceed? These are people who scrimp and save an entire year to go on 1 cruise, and it was such a disaster.

    TIA!

  8. called today for February 20th sailing - went from an inside to a balcony for $150 per person on one cabin, and went from an inside to a mini suite for $250 per person on a 2nd cabin. Success!!

    We got an updrade!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

from inside to mini suite for 800 CAD for the 4 of us!!!!!

yeah! I am not telling my family, and I will surprise them!

  9. We have not received this call and cruise in 30 days. How can you tell if you are on the same account? All these inconsistent rules are ridiculous. This is my first time sailing with NCL and I have to say I am not all that eager to cruise with them again. I understand changing a policy but it should be done in a transparent and consistent way.

When I called customer service they told me that there is no limit to obc...

  10. Are you on the same account?

Because since yesterday I read that the maximum OBC we can buy for 1 cabin is 1000$

We also have the wonderfull 1,11$ rate and want to buy 1000$ or more in OBC to cash out at the casino and pay for our excursions in the islands...

I was just allowed to by 5k online... lets see if they allow for it. I hope ot buy myself a nice piece of jewllery!

  11. At present, yes. But you may not be able to buy all that at one go. Especially if it is just you.

    Mike

Thanks Mike - I am travelling with my hubby and 2 kids.

It is our 10 year anniversary, and I am eyeing a nice stone, and would love to buy it at 11% exchange rather than 35% exchange - but I am just worried if I choose not to buy anything what would happen to all the credit we pre-purchased.

  12. I purchased a large amount of obc in December at 1.11 as I was told by ncl rep

I could purchase future cruise in full on board with this obc. The day before my cruise they refunded all but 1000.00 back to my CC. The accounts dept called me and advised that 1000. was the obc limit. I had made purchases over the ncl sight as well as direct with ncl rep over a two week period.

was the refund back in USD?

  13. Our PCC with NCL will always give us a price in CAD even though the website will only quote in USD. When we have paid a deposit in CAD all prices quoted for us on MyNCL (shorex, dining, OBC) appear in CAD, the PCC has the ability to over-ride the USD to convert everything to CAD at the rate applicable when we book.

    Mike

    question for you all

let's say I buy a large quantity of credit as I am planning on buying a diamond (5k for example) at 1.11 - it would cost me 5555,

If I don't buy anything, would I then get reimbursed the 5k USD (which would then be 6750 CAD

Is this how it would work?

  14. Just purchased $100 USD OBC for $111.11 CDN. You have to sign into your booking on NCL.com and look under Onboard Credits. This is a great rate as the current exchange is approx $1.45 at TD in Canada.

You'll pay in Canadian dollars now but your OBC will be in USD!

    YESSS!!

I bought 400$ OBC for 444, it would cost 580 now

I also pre-paid for excursions in CAD

    and also the gratuities

I dont want any USD charges - so as of now, everything is paid for and in CAD.

It is a super great deal

  15. Darn autocorrect! Off summit yesterday and loved Quisine so much we ate there 2x. We told them we couldn't eat there the first night so they extended 30 percent off to the next night. The service and staff were excellent! We were in Aqua so not sure if 30 percent was due to that or not.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Ditto - sailed on July 6th. My parents actually got a 30% off coupon when they got their door cards (I did not get one...). It was valid for the first 2 nights.

Dinner was AMAZING! Great presentations, yummy food - well worth the 62$ (we gave an extra tip because service was that good). A meal like this at home would be 100$+ / person
