  1. That market is in Noailles -- rue Longue-des-Capucins. It's down a backstreet about half-way up the Canebiere from the Old Port. Smallish - but really great for cheap shopping if you're after exotic food, provencal fabrics, North African ceramics - you can even get cheap boules sets there. http://www.marseille-provence.info/marseille-marseilles/what-to-see-tourist-attractions/77-noailles-market-arab-capucins.html

So, after taking the shuttle from the ship to Vieux Port it is a walkable distance?

    Thanks in advance

  2. Hello ! Thanks so much for such an amazing review. We are looking to follow your plan step by step and was wondering if at any time we would be close to the gardens in Trastevere?

I believe we would be closeset to them when we arrive at the spanish steps but by then it should be dark, right?

    Have you been there?

    Thanks again

Also how far would you say you walked that day in miles, if we follow the blue line ?

  3. We recently spent a day in Rome from Civitavecchia (can anyone actually pronounce that?) and here's how you can easily avoid some lines and cover all the sights in a very effective and efficient way on your own.

Our plan was the result of the research here on this forum and from other sources, and so is nothing original, but it is a good validation that some of the advice I found was truly beneficial.

  4. We went to Messina in Oct. 2004. In the morning we walked down to the little museum they have (approximately 1.5 miles from where the ship docked) and than back to the Duomo to see the astronomical clock in the bell tower at noon. We took an afternoon ships tour to Taormina to see the Amphitheatre. It was a fun day, one of my most enjoyable days on our cruise.

How was the weather in October? Is it still hot enough to visit a beach?

  5. We just came back from a cruise on the Liberty and there is nothing to do at Messina. We went to the local bus and train terminal and rode a bus to Taormina about 1 1/2 hours. Seeing to countryside and the ride up to Taormina made the trip great. Interbus is the name of the bus company. Get to the terminal early so you can spend more time at Taormina. The bus will take up to the town, the train will not. Roundtrip cost us about 5.5 euros per person. If you decide you can take a bus down to the train station(same fare) and come back on the train. carraizo99@yahoo.com

Thank you for this awesome info! what was the bus experience like? is it comparable to our greyhound bus here or more of a school bus? I’m sorry if that sounds like a silly question this is very new to me. Also was station far from the port? ;)

  6. Hello everyone! I have been meaning to post this review for some time now and am finally free enough to do it. This is a review of the Carnival Magic from June 2011 (I know, it's been almost an entire year)! My dh and I were fortunate enough to set sail on the Magic's 7th trip out to sea. Here is the itinerary for our trip:

Day 1 – Flight out of Chicago and Paris

    Day 2 – Paris

Day 3 – Flight out of Paris and Barcelona

    Day 4 –Barcelona and Embarkation

    Day 5 – Monaco

Day 6 – Rome (port of Civitavecchia)

Day 7 – Pisa, Florence and Tuscany (port of Livorno)

Day 8 – Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi Coast (port of Naples)

Day 9 – Taormina Sicily (port of Messina)

Day 10 – Fun Day at Sea

Day 11 – Debarkation and Barcelona

Day 12 – Barcelona and flight home

This was our honeymoon and we were both so excited to finally go to Europe! We thought this would be a great way to check out some great cities and then know which ones we would one day want to come back to see in more detail.

    Well here it goes…

    Stacy,

Wow what can I say? I’ve just spent the past hour and a half reading your updates (sometimes laughing and almost crying). I am planning a trip to Europe for the 9day Carnival Sunshine on Oct, 11 2013 for myself (22) and boyfriend (26). I am obsessed with reading the board on cc and totally excited.

I loved reading your adventures at the different ports and I was wondering on average how much you spent at each port (including your Rome in limo tour price, your dining expenses and moderate amount of shopping) I want to be able to budget appropriately

Also I really hope you don’t mind me asking but how did you lose 60lbs before your wedding. I am looking to start weight watchers in a month and think the cruise is great incentive; I want to look as beautiful as you in those sundresses! As for that rude man, forget him he’s clearly not in his right mind.

One last question, what was your absolute favorite part of the trip?

Thank you in advance for your response and thanks again for posting this!

    God Bless,

    Megan
