  1. Clarification on guaranteed passenger counts – While I have not been able to review the contract, ports typically count passengers when they board and debark. They use the term passengers when they mean passenger movements. The only time passengers are counted once if if the ship is visiting for the day (port of call) or in the case of a repositioning cruise where the cruise only ends at the port. In this case, 200k is more like 100k if it is indeed passenger movements.

Also, the reference to the berthing agreement has been removed from the Cruise Industry News article I used as a source. However, you can click here to see an archive of the original article.

The original source I used for this article was incorrect and the website redacted the information. I posted a correction to the article with more details and what the 200k number actually represents after reading the proposed usage agreement which has NOT been approved at this time.

  3. That would make Jim Urrey the platinum standard :D We sailed with him twice before he was promoted on shore. I truly believe you can credit him for the excellent rosters of CDs that followed, like Brent, Christiaan and Clayton.

Funny, I just realized that Scott Sanders' Disney Cruise Blog had a list of CDs past and present and Jim Urrey isn't even mentioned. He was the first when the Magic launched.

Jim has since been added. I will admit, the overall list is incomplete. The list started as I was adding them to my database when processing personal navigators. I was including the captain and cd when the information was provided by the individual sharing the navigators.

  4. Thanks !!!!

    I will keep watching!

The Halloween, Very MerryTime, Star Wars Day at Sea and Marvel Day at Sea sailings are all labeled well after the initial itinerary release. DCL seems to hold back this info to spark a wave of bookings. They already know people will book this week so why put all their cards on the table now.

Plus, when they do make the themed cruises official the prices have jumped from opening day.

  5. FWIW, the port development project link is no longer in development. However, the pier development is still occurring, just not with an outside agency in control.

"Government of the Virgin Islands will no longer pursue with Tortola Pier Partners"

    read full details here http://www.bvi.gov.vg/news/statement-premier-and-minister-finance-dr-honourable-d-orlando-smith-obe-cruise-pier-developmen

Recently heard that our Oct. 19 repositioning cruise on Summit is not going to Tortola, but instead to St. Thomas, due to a new pier rebuilding project. So I went and googled the project and, oh Lord ... Why? Why?

Disney is behind building a new Mega-Pier! With a Ferris Wheel, no less!

I remember Belize ... I remember Roatan ... before they became shopping havens and destinations where you don't have to leave the pier. Now ... Grand Turk, Costa Maya, Falmouth ... even the pier in St. Maarten ... they're bring the commerce right to the gangplank.

I really enjoy the old outpost aspect of a Caribbean port, and not this cookie-cutter antiseptic vision of what a tropical paradise is supposed to look like!

    Agree or disagree?
