Here's a brief video showing a glimpse of of the Westin, which is located right across the street from a pleasant marina. (And there's a fancy restaurant on the marina property.)

And here's the Hyatt Regency and environs:

Another view of the Hyatt--as seen from the Hudson, starting at about 2:45 into this video:

Thank you So Much Carol this was above and beyond for you to take the time to post all of this for me I really Appreciate your effort!!! The videos looked great but my husband talked me into saving the money by staying out in parsippany on saturday and park at the port early and check out the NYC Skyline from the ship instead. I knew he would talk me out of touring the city. I hate being practical on vacation!!!! But I will make him stay here some other trip. Again thank you for all the great info!!!! Sheri

  2. Mom would love the view from the Hyatt. The hotel is priced well for your May 9 date. IMO it's easier to get to the Hyatt than to deal with the spaghetti roads around Newark Airport. You take the NJ turnpike extension towards the Holland Tunnel and get off at Christopher Columbus Drive which I believe is the first exit after you pay the toll for Exit 14C, but before you get to the Holland Tunnel. The Hyatt is about 13 blocks away down on the waterfront. Your husband can do that! To get to the port you go back the way you came in, get on the turnpike westbound, and get off in two exits at exit 14A. I can provide the detailed directions to get into the port from there.

I would like more information about your mother's mobility issues and how you plan to deal with them. My elderly mother was my cruise buddy before she passed away and we sailed from Caoe Liberty to the Caribbean and Bermuda five times. As her mobility issues increased, I purchased a lightweight collapsible transport chair so that I could easily push her around the ship, ensure she was safe getting on and off, and give her greater access to destinations on shore. On our last cruise I was able to take Mom up to the Maritime museum at

King's Wharf, which she thoroughly enjoyed along with visiting some shops.

    Hi Carol

Mom can walk short distances and we have a collapsible chair that we use on the ship and in port. She likes to walk but we need the chair for a guaranteed seat when she needs it. She can even do steps one flight but then has to rest. I was wondering if the taxi tours in bermuda will take the chair? I know crystal caves has 81 steps but are they continuous or are there rest stops. The harbor night festival in hamilton is that worth going to? I have read that the ferry is ok to use for limited mobility is this true? Sorry for all the questions but I am finding it hard to find info on bermuda and access. As you know there are many things to consider when traveling with the elderly like bathroom locations and heat problems while waiting in long lines for attractions or transportation. I like to plan excursions that are private so no long lines. We are thinking about renting a small boat and cruising around ourself on day 2 and doing a taxi tour on the first day any info would be appreciated. thanks sheri

  3. HI

We are from Warren Pa a small town where 10 miles take 10 minutes to travel. My husband hates big city driving. This said, would we be better off staying at the Newark airport area and shuttle bus to port or stay downtown with a view and then drive to port and self park? We are on the Summit to Bermuda May 10th . We are traveling with my 89 year old mother with limited mobility. Mom has never been to NYC but loves a view. I was considering the Hyatt in Jersey city. Would this be a good choice for a view and dining? We would probably have to eat at the hotel once he parks the car it is parked. We have never ridden the subway, taken a bus and very limited taxi experience maybe 3 times would this be safe for mom she is very slow walker. Like I said small town, so any easy access sightseeing and dining tips would be greatly appreciated. This will be an early 90th birthday cruise for mom so we splurged to our first Royal suite!!! I want to board early. I do not want to wait all day for a shuttle from the airport hotels. How much would a taxi be from airport hotel to port? Thanks in advance!!

  4. HI,

I was looking at the royal suite photos on the summit and the hot tub on the deck looks more like a jetted bathtub to me? Can more than one person fit in this at the same time (real sized people) or is this a one person bathtub on the deck? When I read hot tub on the deck I was thinking thermospa tub not a jacuzzi bathtub. Any info would be great I would rather be disappointed now rather than on board when I see it.

    Thanks Sheri

  5. We had some smells when we were on Millenium in 6140. I think it is the starboard (even side) but further back. We sailed in 6141 on Summit no smell, and are booked in April in 6142 and really hope we have no issues. I would book further forward or on the port (odd side) if possible. This being said I doubt we'll have a problem. If you come back here and remind me in mid April, I'll report back.

    Happy sailing,

    Jenna

    Hi Jenna,

In your expert opinion you think the port side royal suites are better? Could you please explain why. Is it the smell issue I see you were on the port (odd) side with no smell or is it because of the views in New York and Bermuda? I will remind you in April for a update thanks for offering.

  6. Hi Everyone,

WE are booked on summit 5/10/15 to Bermuda our first time in a royal suite. This will be my mothers 90Th birthday cruise she gets the bedroom we get the couch. Everyone should travel in style at least once in your life. MY question is is there a problem with sewage smell with this suite I read it somewhere and now I can not find it. Our first cruise we had sky suite 6146 on the connie and we had this smell when we were in port. Since we are in port for 3 days this could get really bad. I do not want to spend 3 days smelling sewage. If anyone knows if there is a better number to pick than 6138 there are still two rs left 6137 and 6142. I choose 6138 because it was closer to elevator for mom. Any info would be great I really want to make this a special trip for her. I read you never know which side is better because it changes from cruise to cruise but if anyone has insight mom wants to look at the island rather than the ocean while in Bermuda.

    THANKS IN ADVANCE

    SHERI

  7. Well I argued this point with several different Ta's at celebrity at first they told me they would let the third person in my suite have the classic alcohol package and free gratuities for the 123go promo. I was ok with that until I found out that all quests in a royal suite will receive the premium package with the new suite class and that they would not pay for the third person tips. So I took the $800 resident credit reduction in price rather than the 123go. I calculated 2 @ 108.50/pp gratuities and a $300 obc gets me a $517.00 value but since you have to pay full price to get the 123go promo The $800 resident credit reduction was better for me. Of coarse this was calculated on a 7 day cruise on a longer cruise the increased gratuities may make it a push. I saved $283 with the resident credit over the 123go for a royal suite to Bermuda. To be completely honest I did loose $100 of my online Ta's bonus cash back money so I guess the net savings was really $183 but I will take it. If anyone does better let me know.

  8. Hi everyone

Planning an Alaskan cruise 2016 on celebrity with 91 year old mom and my husband. Mom will not be up for a lot of shore excursions with the exception of the train trip I think she would like this one. She has limited mobility and short attention span so the views from her balcony would be very important. The 10 day cruise on millie looks like the ship stays close to shore but it is early may so would it be too cold for her to enjoy the balcony? She keeps her apartment at 80 degrees. We have only been on the connie and the century so far so would anyone recommend the solstice? I do not think that it stays as close to shore but maybe someone could tell me some benefits over the m-class. She loves animals watches all the nat geo tv shows. If there is a week that would provide optimal wildlife viewing whales, seals. bears, moose please let me know. Also any opinions on the celebrity suite m class vs solstice and would this be a good choice to provide optimal viewing or would and aft or forward facing be better in alaska. Also if you leave Vancouver at 4 pm do you get to see much of inside passage or is it dark and then there is dinner and bed so would you sleep through most of the inside passage northbound? I am trying to decide if port side would be better as you do inside passage again on the return? Any info on a good itinerary, best time of year for animals and which cabin for 3 would be best choice including which side of the ship. we usually choose a sky suite mom likes her butler but the celebrity suite looks like a nice upgrade.

    thanks in advance sheri

  9. I am trying to decide on a royal suite with the all new suite class perks or two regular balconies with 123 go. We are in our 50's traveling with mom 89. Mom would get the bed in the royal and we would be on the sofa bed. We did this on the century roundtrip to hawaii but the sofa bed was terrible in the sky suite. Would the sofa be better in a royal suite? WE would get premium beverage, michaels club and a private hot tub on deck with the royal but we would get the sofa bed and with two balconies we get privacy and a better bed. I can not find an adjoining handicapped balcony with a plain balcony are there any adjoining handicpped cabins. The cruise is oct 18 2015 bayonne to st maarten and torola and san juan. Mom has limited mobility any info on excursions woud also be appreciated. In hawaii we rented a car and toured ourself. thanks sheri
