  1. How much are you supposed to tip tour guides and drivers? I read that the amount the tour company sites state of 10 and 5 percent respectively is excessive. They are taking advantage of US customary tipping and that amount i would be too much. In one thread I read that if a russian tour guide was getting 10% that would be around a month pay in a couple of days. Is that correct? Do they force you to pay exactly 10 and 5 percent? Just wondering.

In the Baltic and Scandinavia, tipping is not customary because people can actually live on their salary. If you feel that you have got some good service, tip whatever you feel is right, otherwise dont.

  2. I'll be landing at the Copenhagen airport on Jun 20 and wish to go directly to Malmo central station, which is close to the hotel where I'll be staying for a night. What is the best way to get to Malmo central station from CPH? Bus? Train? How much do each of these cost and where can I get tickets?

After a night's stay in Malmo, we'll be taking the train back out to Copenhagen and boarding the cruise whenever it opens. What is the best way via bus or train to get to the cruise terminal (I believe it's Freeport)? If we get back to Copenhagen before we can check in for the cruise, is there anywhere that will store our luggage for the time being?

I ll have a stab at this one!

From CPH airport there is three trains per hour that goes directly to Malmö Central station. The cost is SEK 105:- or around DKK 84:-.

You buy tickets at he airport, before you enter the trackarea.

You return with the same train, but pass CPH airport and leave at Österport. From there you take the bus. (I dont know what busnumber you need, but look this thread through and Danish Viking has already given that answer before)

If yoy want to check in your luggage, you need to get off att Copenhagen Central station where there is manual storage facilites, and then take the next train to Österport. You dont need to buy a new ticket for this, as you are travelling in the same direction as before you went off the train.

  3. I noticed on another thread there is track work taking place this summer. We plan to travel from Nyhaven to Kronborg on Monday, July 1st. Will this track work affect our plans to go out there? I have done a ton of research on train times, but I didn't see any notes about a change. Thanks!

There are 3 trains every hour from Copenhagen Central Station to Helsingör (Where Kronborg Castle is situated) every day. Any track changes will be clearly posted in the station.

(Incidentally, I will take one of those trains myself July 1st, returning from my first Med cruise)

  4. Been to the Blue Laggon a few years ago. Iceland air gave this experiance to us when we switched planes in Reykjavik.

The water in the laggon is very hot an filled with sulfur, wich makes your hair dry - but is apparantly good for your skin. There is bathingsuits to be lent/rented and your hair will be fine after a shower.

Didnt check out the spa area, but the beer was great!

  5. Yes they do and so does all the intercity and commuter trains and even the Eurocity/ICE connections to Hamburg and Berlin.

But if He/she was already confused about the S-train options it would me mad of me to also post all the other train options between Østerport and Nørreport.

    Gotcha!

  6. To all of you visting Copenhagen and are interested in visiting "Frihedsmuseet". Sadly, I have to inform you that yesterday it was destroyed in a heavy fire. The building itself will be put down but , fortunately enough, 99% of the artifacts was saved,

  7. I'm still trying to figure out when we are flying in and out but I did go ahead and make a reservation for the Saturday that we disembark over at the Cottage Farm. I thought it would make for a neat experience since we are city folk and all of my family with farms have since passed away.

So my question is how can we get from Cottage Farm (Airport area) to the viking ship museum in Roskilde? Also, how should we go from the port to this hotel? I can't seem to find a bus/train that goes south of the airport but maybe I am looking at a bad map of the area.

I did a quick search at dsb.dk about your trip from Cottage Farm to Roskilde Viking ship museum.

This is what came up for this Saturday, 2013-03-01:

As you can see, your closest bustop is in central Dragör. I think ít´s best for you to take a taxi from the airpor to your accomodation. Both when you arrive, and when you are leaving for Roskilde.

  8. Thanks for the suggestions! We are doing the Viking ship museum in Stockholm

And the open air museum there. Experium sounds great is it?

I don´t think tere is a Vikingship museum in Stockholm. If it´s the Wasa you referring to, it´s a different story. But very exciting aswell!

The Roskilde Vikingship experience is something not to be missed; it´s a working museum where longships are made by hand in small workshops, alongside the "real deal" exhibited the Vikingship hall.
