  1. Thank you for the great review. We are joining the Sapphire on 15th June for Land of the Midnight Sun.

One question which you may know the answer to:

We have booked the Princess excursion for Hellesylt/Geiranger - did they arrange an alternate all day excursion leaving from Geiranger? Don't want to be left with nothing planned!

Interesting comments regarding the entertainment - it is always my biggest disappointment on Princess. Personally, I would have been quite happy with Gareth Gates &, as far as I can tell, we don't have a "celebrity" entertainer at all on our sailing.

Great to hear embarkation/disembarkation went smoothly.

We just booked what for us is a last minute cruise. Typically we book at least a year and a half in advance but we got a good deal on Princess British Isles cruise in August.  We have never been to Europe and as I try to figure out the ports I just get overwhelmed and shut down, sometimes for me there is just too much on YouTube and even here or CC. So I am reaching out for some help. We are in our early 50's have no disabilities and don't mind walking. We are pretty conservative travelers, one of the few people on CC who like cruise excursions but we also like to mix it up with exploring on our own.

we are going to London, Guernsey, Cork, Dublin, Belfasr, Glasgow, Invergordon, and Edinburgh

What I am trying to accomplish with my planning is a mix of city and country views. We want to tour some castles but don't want to only tour castles etc.... We are pretty sure we will walk London on our own and I have my heart set on seeing Scottland countryside but that's as far as I get before I am overwhelmed

    will you share with me:

your favorite port to walk and roam without a planned excursion

    your favorite castle tour

your favorite/most helpful review/YouTube video/website that helped you plan for your cruise

thank you - I am off to have some tea and remind myself that vacations don't have to be perfect to be wonderful!!!

Feel free to check out the Shutterfly site I set up when I did the BI cruise a couple of years ago. It may help with your planning

Guernsey is easy enough to do independently! I would highly recommend the Little Church - I visited it many times as a child!

my favourite castle tour was Blarney Castle - we arrived early and so enjoyed a kiss of the Blarney Stone followed by time spent wondering the stunning gardens.

Favourite port to walk/wander without anything planned - easy - Edinburgh! Although I can highly recommend the Sandemanns walking tour.

CC is the best website I can recommend for planning but I have consolidated a lot of the info on my SF site.

    have a fabulous time

We would like to take a tour from Glasgow to Loch Lomond, Stirling Castle, ...  I have read some suggestions on this board but am running into road blocks.  DiscoverScottland does not have 4 seats available.   I don't think BusyBus goes to Stirling.  We would like a small bus experience, but not a private one because of cost.  Any recommendations?

    Thanks!

Thanks - I think the difference is cake and coffee in "the best of". Wish you could join me also. Just booked the North Cape tour through a private company.

    Hi Theresa,

I am currently booked on the Best of Geirangerfjord with Princess this coming June but am not sure now about switching to the Scenery one instead. I am not at all fussed about coffee & cake & certainly not excited about the thought of a complimentary lunch (fussy eater) so wonder whether I should switch.

The things on the itinerary that interest me are:

    Hornindal Bridge

    Stryn Lake

    Buldrefoss Waterfall

    Testing Glacier

    Mt Dalsnibba

Did you get to see those on the Scenery trip as well?  Perhaps you could share your experience.

  5. Paula K,

Thanks for all the hard work on your shutterfly Website regarding the CB May 20 Sailing of the BI. Your prep and information for the RollCall was truly outstanding!

We are on the Jun 25 Sailing and have used your website as a kind of homebase for all the port info, excursions, M&G stuff, and general info.

Hope that you and Mum had a wonderful time! I noticed that your BLOG stopped at Day 7 and was wondering where rest was located so i could finish following your trip day by day...etc.

    Thanks again,

    Tampa, FL

Didn't get much opportunity to log in after that but will be finishing it over next couple of days. Thanks for feedback & glad you have found it useful

  6. We have just returned from British Isles trip on Caribbean Princess & had E225 cabin. It is advertised as full obstructed view. We did not find this to be the case. Yes, there is a lifeboat outside the window but that only blocks being able to look down. Looking towards the horizon is not really blocked at all. Also, the window is between the desk area & the TV/mini bar area so you are able to get right up to the window unlike the cabin gallery on the deck plans.

The only down side is you are immediately above the back of the Princess Theatre so a little noise carries up until about 10:30pm so don't pick it if you are early to bed!!!!

  7. Thanks for the headsup :)

My son will be fine with diet coke and/or carbonated water. That's what I meant by "low-sugar". He did like those Italian sodas (San Pellegrino) for a while and then got tired of them. Occasionally he'll ask me to pick up "something carbonated" when I go shopping.

When I asked both my kids what they would want they both insisted that they were fine with just water....I'm just wondering if it would be worth it to surprise them with a soda package...last minute doubts as we sail a month from today.

Hi there Laurie, fancy seeing you on this thread!! I paid for a soda drinks package when I cruised for the first time which was a similarly port intensive itinerary & definitely don't think I would have spent that amount if I had paid for the drinks as I went along.

Second time around, I chose not to pay for the package & ended up drinking water (which is more than OK) during the day & simply having a soda with dinner.

The only thing I would say is the kids are more likely to head off to the disco etc & then the cocktails may be a benefit. Also, if you head off into the pool or something like that & you have left a drink lying around, you don't have to worry too much because you can simply order another! From memory, the drinks were around the $2.50 price & were a typical 250ml glass.

Hope that helps & see you on board on the 20th
