  1. My opinion only : as long as everyone behaves( which they did from my viewpoint) but come on …. the food has to taste better than cafeteria food , which it did not!

Another complaint was the customer service desk which easily had a 30 min plus line!

To be to be honest after 3 cruises with Carnival we realized the food is just not very good (and we are not elite foodies); too many other cruises to try!

  2. We cruised on the following 3 night cruise on the Radiance (7/22-7/25) and would agree on most of the above review.  The only difference is we found the main dining room and buffet food terrible. It had very little flavor and seasoning. The Shaq chicken and Blue Iguana was much better but never open in the evenings.

The comedian and Gabe the cruise director was terrific.

This was our 16th cruise but only our 2nd 3 night cruise. Our other 3 night cruise was  6 years ago out of Miami on a much older Royal Caribbean ship but despite the “party” excuse of these shorter cruises, the Royal cruise was far better including the food.

We also will not cruise with Carnival again.

  3. We haven't cruised in over a year so haven't needed to price out cruises using my Captain's Club number. While attempting to do this online and putting in my Captains Club number, I received an error telling me I need to call the number given on that screen. I called and instead of clearing up the issue of why I wasn't able to book it myself I allowed the person on the phone to book it. Now I am wondering whether she booked it correctly as aren't Captain Club members allowed a one category upgrade? I don't think I received that even though our CC #s are on our reservation.

I dread calling back as I did call the following day and after a 25 minute hold, changed our reservation to a balcony with the drink package - of course that eliminated the state discount we had (?). Is because I am getting the drink package now (at the cost of +$200), that eliminates all other deals (i.e. state discount, one category upgrade)?

I kind of feeling like I am being given the runaround - that is way I like to do my own reservations online but without getting the website to accept my CC#.... I am frustrated.

We are Captain Club Select if that makes any difference.

    Thanks.

  4. What are the craps minimums for each of the cruise lines?

We sailed Celebrity Summit last year and the mins were up to $10 which killed the crowds at the table. I know the odds are better on Celebrity but we like playing when there are lots of others playing also.

  5. We love cruising and love visiting Europe (land vacations only) so wondering if we would like a Mediterranean cruise.

For those of you that have sailed a Med cruise, did you feel rushed? Did you regret missing the evenings in the wonderful European cities since you had to get back on the ship?

We only have 10 days total this time so are looking at a 2017 Equinox cruise from Barcelona to Athens. A 10 day land vacation in Europe will not get you to very many places while the cruise will give us the opportunity to visit more places in a short amount of time.

    Would love everyone's advice. Thanks,

  6. The Rooftop Terrace did not seem very crowded any of the times we were up there.

We did not eat at any of the specialty restaurants so my guess is the fruit selection was better at these (couldn't find a berry except on a dessert top!)

What bothered me about out water was our neighbors did not have it and it was standing water 2" deep not draining; room service deliverer commented on it when he saw it. After it was mopped up the first time later that afternoon it barely sprinkled and our balcony was flooded again. Up on the jogging track there were workers taking the tops of the drains off as these weren't just puddles but flooded spots failing to drain.

We are big non smokers and like Celebrity because they are the most restrictive but obviously there will be those that smoke on their balconies and it is difficult to get the smell of years' worth of smoke out of an older ship. If we sailed one of these class ships again we would probably return to the newer 3rd floor ocienview cabins.

  7. Just off our second Celebrity cruise (sailed Summit 2015). Most of our other cruises (10+) were on Royal (with our now grown kids.)

Loved our Summit cruise in 2015 but not so much this time.

    First the positives:

    - great dining room service; we had select dining and never waited for a table of 2

    - loved the new rooftop terrace. Watched the NCAA games up there along with a couple of movies.

    - great weather and nice fellow cruisers

    - enjoyed the comedian shows

    - loved the premium drink package taking advantage of the specialty coffee drinks; pellegrino water etc.

    The not so positives:

-We had balcony 6030 this time. Often could smell smoke when out on our balcony. When it rained water pooled and needed to be mopped off on our balcony. This was also true with the running track area; after a rain shower, big puddles, the drains obviously need some work.

    - many areas of the ship smelled like stale smoke or stale something. Last year we had a cabin in the newer 3rd floor oceanview area so maybe that was why we didn't smell it so much.

    - food was ok; we never ate at any of the specialty areas; really poor selection of fresh fruit

    - casino table minimums for the entire week was $10 thus few craps players (a venue where we have fun and meeting other people)

    - the portside vs the starboard week long games felt a bit Carnival-esque

    - unless specifying with a bartender when ordering a glass of wine, seemed to always be served the lowest quality brand even though we pointed out the fact we had the premium package.

-our cabin steward was not timely, always seemed to forget to replace things.

We are probably newer ship people and will cruise in the future on a newer ship. Weather was wonderful; realize cabin steward service is a hit and miss kind of thing.

All in all it beat being home where it is snowing in April?!?

  8. 4 of us flying into FLL with just carry ons (3 day cruise); we land at 6:15 pm so shuttle choices are limited. We are cruising out of Miami the next day and would like to spend night in Miami Beach so we can have the following morning to see the beach for a while.

From these threads it appears arriving at that hour shuttles don't make sense and with 4 of us a taxi will cost similar anyway. My question is will the cab driver we pick up at FLL know Miami Beach area so we aren't taken on a ride($$)? Is there a better alternative?

    Thanks in advance.

  9. Just off 4/4 Celebrity Summit, first time on Celebrity; are platinum on RCCL and love the line but decided maybe as we round age 50 with no kids this time maybe it's time to give Celebrity a chance plus have always wanted to do Maho Beach in St. Martin and no RCCL ship was going there the week of 4/4.

We really were pleased with Celebrity and the Summit so much we booked it again for next year(different itinerary). The ship is older and doesn't have the rock climbing wall and other kid attractions but that isn't what we look for when we cruise by ourselves in our early 50's. We had cabin 3112, an ocean view which I understand from reading these boards is newer. We loved it as it was very quiet and right around the corner from Guest Relations and the Grand Foyer.

Areas we thought Celebrity did better than RCCL : total no smoking in casino ; we spend a lot of time in the casino so we loved the fact we didn't have to deal with smoke; also liked the Vegas odds on craps in the casino; thought the food in both the dining room and the Oceanview Cafe much better than RCCL; thought the service was much better on Celebrity; liked the fact they trusted us to take out towels without having to sign them out like RCCL and not having to sign with our drink package like we did with RCCL which is just a hustle for more tips.

We did think entertainment was better on RCCL but we don' t typically go to lots of shows. We also were disappointed in the limited showing of the Final Four NCAA game as it was only shown in the casino with no audio ( or you could watch it in your stateroom)

Loved the ports and as we have cruised a lot in the past just meandered around in the ports along with a day spent at Maho Beach in St. Martin's watching planes come in which was a blast.

Very happy with our first Celebrity sailing. ( we have also sailed Carnival, Holland America, Princess along with RCCL prior to this cruise).

  10. We booked cheapest inside cabins 4 months in advance of sailing. We are platinum C &A. About a month away from sailing we received an e-mail to upgrade for $80 to a window. I called and told them no I wanted a balcony - they told me that wasn't the offer. 1 week later received another e-mail with the same window offer - I called and again said I was only interested in a balcony (balconies were much higher priced at this time) they said no that wasn't the offer. I hung up and within minutes the RCCL reservationist called me back and said there was a balcony offer after all - $100 to upgrade from a cheap inside cabin to a balcony and I got to keep my $100 onboard credit..

So yes it may have helped to keep asking or it certainly doesn't hurt.

But yes it was an upsell not an upgrade but still a good deal.

  11. Just off the 4 day sailing - we received our money's worth - there were 4 of us - we purchased 2 Premium packages and also brought onboard 4 bottles of wine. Even though the 2 without the drink package drank the wine, there were times those with the package were able to get drinks off the package for the 2 of us without it. It was fun to try so many different drinks and not worry about the price.

  12. We cruise this weekend - our experience:

We booked 2 inside cabins with $100 OBC each - one for my husband and I (platinum almost emerald) and my son and gf (barely platinum). We were offered an upgrade to a balcony about 3 weeks before sailing for a move to a balcony for $100 and ability to keep OBC. We took this but my son was not offered the same upgrade. Less than a week before sailing I noticed the balcony guarantee for this same sailing dropped to just a little over what my son's inside cabin cost plus $200 OBC. I called twice (1st person I spoke with said this was for new bookings only) but the 2nd reservationist said they could upgrade for $75 and get the $200 OBC. They received a higher balcony category than we did (cabins now assigned) and they won't let us upgrade to a higher balcony category unless we pay $300 and lose our OBC. (?!?)

Moral of the story - it depends who you talk to at RCCL on how they will treat upgrades but it doesn't hurt to keep calling. We are happy though because we both ended up with balconies for a fairly decent price!

  13. I know price drops are unavailable after final payment but what are the rules on moving up a category? Especially related to onboard credits?

I know you can move up a category if your price you paid is equal to the higher category (or pay the difference) but if that same higher category you want to move up to is also offering onboard credit - you are not allowed that? Not only that you lose any onboard credit your current reservation has? That is what Crown and Anchor told me.

Higher categories are similarly priced to what we paid and offering onboard credit - C&A told me we could move up but the onboard credit was only available to new bookings AND we would lose our current booking's on board credit.

    Is this true?

Thanks - the onboard credit seems to muck the waters.

  14. Just got off Majesty today after the 3 day cruise and are back in stormy rainy Ohio! We surprised ourselves by REALLY enjoying the Majesty! Thanks to your review and pictures Staci as I wasn't sure we would be happy on a ship that old but it is in great shape. Rooms are small but sailing prices are small too! Really enjoyed the crew, the itinerary, your review was dead on! We have sailed the bigger ships but this one has its own definite charm!
