  1. When it’s just myself and my husband we don’t get the table until we get the food- it seems wrong to hold up a table until you actually need it. But when the children are with us and we need a larger table, we find the table first- the kids get their food while we wait and then we go after they are sitting down eating. Works for us.

  2. I agree with you on Cheers. I would end up spending more on the package than a la carte. I know people will say but you can get this and that too, not just alcohol but I often reach a point where all I want to do is guzzle water and stop taking in so many calories just because I’m trying to get more bang for my buck. Been there done that, forced myself to over indulge with alcohol, coffee drinks, etc just to feel like it was worth it. My body just doesn’t want all of that for more than a few days so no more drink packages for me.

  3. My family sailed Vista last summer. Right after the cruise I thought I wouldn’t go on her again but as time has passed the few issues I ran into- my husband and 3 kids originally being assigned to 2 different tables in the dining room and no one caring enough to resolve the issue for us the first night causing us to leave and pay in a Specialty restaurant and a room steward that wasn’t very good- have seemed like less and less of a big deal. I’m sailed RCCL this summer but I found myself booking Vista again next summer and Panorama the summer after that. We are going to do the Havana area though next time.

  4. My kids are all split just enough that they are never able to be in the same club so we have never used the clubs since none of them will go in alone - they simply don’t want to hang with strangers on vacation. They are weird like that. We’ve just had to find other ways to keep them occupied. Luckily it hasn’t caused an issue on any of our trips.

  5. I like looking at the art but I don’t enjoy someone giving me the “sales” talk about how art is an investment. I wouldn’t buy something that costs hundreds or thousands of dollars on a whim on a cruise. I’ve seen pieces (not on a cruise but in a gallery) that Id be willing to pay a lot for but the second someone tries to convince me that if I don’t purchase it right this second, I’ll miss out on a fantastic deal and that it will cost triple or quadruple later on, I walk away.

  6. I prefer late. Gives us time from excursions. I like to get photos before dinner on formal nights so we have a nice window while early diners are eating to do that. I always seem to eat late on vacation. I think it’s because I eat more at lunch on vacation so I’m not hungry around early dining times anyways.

  7. When I sailed on Vista last year I was able to buy digital copies of the photos. I think they were $14.95 each. I ended up buying about 10 photos and used them to make calendars and holiday cards, etc on a website that makes products from digital photos.

  8. Well I sailed Vista last year and enjoyed it. My only complaint was that somehow even though my family of 5 (wife, husband, and 3 kids) who were in two connecting rooms with linked reservations all paid for by one credit card- we got assigned to 2 different tables in the main dining room that weren’t even close together. When I asked them to fix it the head Maitre’d said that we had to sit at separate tables that night and they would fix it the next night. We walked out and went to Bonsai instead. But otherwise everything went pretty smooth and I really liked the Ship. We are sailing on her again next year (with a Specialty Dining reservation the first night just so we can avoid the main dining room chaos of the first night this time.) I think FTTF helped us though, not as many lines to wait in and we were off the ship immediately.

  9. I love sailing Royal I have an upcoming 2018 cruise on Anthem and have sailed both the Allure and Oasis. I have 3 Carnival cruises under my belt and have 2 future cruise- Vista in 2019, Panorama in 2020 so I am a fan of both lines.

My impressions- main dining is comparable but I have to give the edge to Carnival (I am not a fan of the melting cake although I have a son that swears by it.)

I prefer the RCCL buffet. Not overly impressed with Carnivals.

I prefer Carnivals other free offerings that aren’t part of the buffet- Guys, Blue Iguana, Pizza, pasta, etc to the free non-buffet offerings at RCCL.

As for Specialty Dining. I like both- Carnivals is more reasonably priced though.

Sushi- I prefer Carnivals Bonsai to Royals Izumi.

  10. Well hopefully someone with current info can tell you but I will give you my impression of my two dinners at the Chefs Table. I went last April on the Valor and in July on the Vista. Both menus were different and there’s a good chance that the menu on your ship will be different seeing that it’s a different year.

I am a foodie and love to try different things. I don’t mind being surprised so not knowing the menu going in isn’t a big deal for me. I will say I was somewhat concerned that when we went on the Vista that my 12 year old son who usually prefers pizza and hamburgers when we eat out would not eat anything but he actually enjoyed it as did my 14 year old daughter and 17 year old son (the only children there- it’s rare for kids to eat there.) They enjoyed a duck dish and lamb dish very much.

They serve so many courses that even if you don’t enjoy one you should still get full. I think I barely touched the lamb but I was still stuffed. There’s a couple appetizers- usually a soup. A fish course, some sort of bird, and usually beef in some form. A few desserts. I’m sorry I can’t give specific dishes but if you are the type of person that is very picky and must know what they are serving I’d say it might not be for you since the menu is subject to change. But if you are adventurous and are just asking out of curiosity Id say go for it. If my 12 year wasn’t horrified by the menu I think it can’t be all the scary for anyone else except for very specific choosy eaters.

  11. I have been on 4 Cruise-lines- Disney, Celebrity, Royal, and Carnival. Royal is my favorite and that’s our choice this summer but I have been on 3 Carnival cruises and have my 4th booked next summer on the Vista. Each Cruise line has its positives and its up to the cruiser to find them and take advantage.

  12. Hey I’m a foodie that spends a ridiculous amount of time planning my trips around food. I haven’t had the Cafe Promenade Pizza but have had Sorrentos on Allure and Oasis. It was edible. My kids didn’t hate it. I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat it but if the kids wanted to stop to get some I’d probably eat a slice. Both Carnival and Disney had better.
