  1. Such great information! I know it will help others when they search Vancouver, u fortunately we had left by the time I'd seen this, but we loved all we did there even though it was too short of a time. I know we will back for trip 3!

  2. Well we got in last night and went walking around, ended up on Robson street and decided to sit on the roof top at Joe Fortes. Had delicious fish and some great Granville beer! A great start!

Today we walked 10.3 miles! Started out this morning and walked down to Canada Place and continued around the sea wall. Stopped at a place called the Blue Cafe for breakfast. It's right in the marina area. Walked to the beginning of Stanley Park. Headed back into town up to Robson checking out the area and loads of restaurants! What a climb! Stopped at Spicy 6 for an Indian buffet. It was great! Continued walking, went down Granville looking at the markers in the sidewalk for BC's artists, musicians, etc. turned around after that, seemed like there were getting more homeless etc on the streets and I got a bit nervous. I'm sure it was fine. We turned on Robson again and went to the stadium. Walked around two actually. Went on to china town, then Gastown. Wow! So much to see. Back to Canada place and looked at a Norwegian cruise line, a Disney cruise line and a small one which goes in closer to the glaciers on small boats. Then went to Pan Pacific I think and had a beer and enjoyed the view and the sun while sitting outside. Checked out the shuttle to the capilano bridge and grouse mountain for tomorrow. What a great day!

  3. Thank you all so much! I'll bookmark this so we can use it as a guide! We are downtown at the Hyatt so hopefully pretty convenient to places.

We are foodies, lived in Singapore for 6 years and will be looking in Vancouver for some good cuisine! We love Korean and all Asian!

Have noticed your temps are warm right now which is great! Will be enjoying your city soon!

    Any more ideas are welcome!

  4. Ha ha Putterdude, I know Vancouver isn't Alaska.

We have been before with the kids and this time just the two of us. We've done Whistler driving from Vancouver and back, so beautiful and because of time we won't get back there this time. Have been to Stanley Park, driven around downtown but not sure we really stopped at any areas to walk through.

We only have a couple days since we get in Sunday night and leave on a cruise Wednesday afternoon. That's why I am hoping to hear what you'd rank as the high points. We will be trying to fit in as much as we can. Also we won't be renting a car this time, but relying on taxis I think. Is that a bad move?

  5. Where do you find the time you are suppose to board the ship. We will be getting on the Coral next Wednesday to Alaska from Vancouver, I see it leaves at 4:30, but I don't see in my information when we are suppose to be there.

  6. We will be on the Coral Princess this summer. We are thinking of purchasing the drink package but wonder if $56 plus tip is way more than you would normally spend. Anyone ever buy these packages?

  7. We did a southbound cruise a few years ago. We flew into anchorage and took a bus to Seward where we cruised to Van couver. We thought it would be a once in a lifetime trip. It was GREAT, but only did the cruise with stops at port cities. I booked us from the dock time to as late as possible, sometimes two excursions and then walks through the towns to explore. We were definately busy but we got so much in! Didn't use the ship for any entertainment as we always had early things to do. I think this time I wil not overbook us in ports and enjoy the ship a bit more, to relax some. Everything we did was great though, only one glacier walk was cancelled due to weather but we picked it up later.

Now, here we are planning another trip. It will be a retirement trip for my hubbie and a finished with chemo/radiation trip for me! Can't wait!

This time, we will cruise northbound from Vancouver to Whittier. We will explore Vancouver a couple days before. Then we are putting together a DIY land your after the cruise. We will spend a few days around anchorage I think, then take the train all the way to Fairbanks, hope this is good! We will rent a car in Fairbanks and drive it to Talkeetna and do Denali for three days, do chena springs and where ever else we look into. We will take a plane to barrows. I say polar plunge, but I'm sure it will be just sticking our toes in. We will be staying in Fairbanks several nights. Will get the arctic circle certificate, see the pipeline and see what all there is around there to visit. I've been collecting all kinds of infoe on this site. Need to look into places to stay and more things that really will be memorable to visit. Our land trip will be 7--9 days so total vacation time about 3 weeks.

  8. Thanks so much for your photos! We aren't able to do this bear excursion THIS trip, only a cruise, our first, so we will HAVE to do another one!! I'm enjoying your blog here, also, have you seen the site explore.org ? They have a live bear cam of browns fishing for salmon. It is set up in Brooks Falls. Really addicting to watch, as are your photos! Looking forward to your next batch of photos!
