  1. I'm currently on Celebrity Silhouette and our stop in Holyhead has been cancelled. They've added an extra day at LeHavre. We already have a Normandy tour on Friday, which was our original day. I have limited access to research what to do for our extra day on Thursday. Can someone give me information on catching the train to Paris??? The cost for 2 adults and 2 teenagers? Our other thought is maybe to check out Honfleur instead of going to Paris. Any information anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!

  2. Hi - I tried searching for this information and couldn't find recent info. I know the shuttle from cruise port to Dover Castle is L4 or $7 pp round trip. We are a family of 4. Can anyone tell me an estimate of what catching a cab would cost? I am sure it would be less expensive, just what to know details.

    Thanks!

  3. We will be in AMS for 2 days pre-cruise. Is the I Amsterdam card worth the cost?

I sat down and priced out what we wanted to see/do and what was included on the I Amsterdam card. Even with the tram cost covered on the card, it was still cheaper to pay for everything individually for our family of 4.

  4. For information on connecting staterooms seen this thread Posts 115-117...

    :D

Thanks, Dave - I did see those posts! Now I am going thru Sunsetbeachgal's list of connecting cabins and looking for people who've actually stayed in those cabins to get confirmation that the connecting inside door is there. The agents at Princess haven't been able to confirm.

Also, thanks for the link to the original deck plans. We will use those when calling Princess again.

  5. Thanks Pia for the info!

Ann, I am looking for first-hand confirmation by people who've actually been in the connecting rooms. My mother-in-law has talked to Princess, but the agents she has talked to haven't known for sure if the room connected by the balcony or an inside door. Also, the diagrams for the Royal that are currently on the Princess website don't show connecting rooms or even which cabins will accommodate 3 or 4 people.

    Thanks!

  6. Thank you and everyone else for there insight on your TA on the Royal.

You keep saying not to book a M deck cabin in the aft or mid aft. Well we were upgraded??? to M508 from A127. Hoping that we are under the carpeted area, and not under a serving station as you. If you have a chance to peek in this cabin, or see where under the HC it is located, it would be greatly appreciated.

Enjoy the rest of your trip.

    Lynn

Lynn - you posted that you had been upgraded on Royal to A127. Did you actually cruise in that cabin? I am trying to figure out which balcony cabins on Royal Princess are connecting. Do you recall if there is an inside door that connects the cabin to A129? Thanks!

  7. We were on this sailing also, we did have a good time. We did have a few problems, our AC was not very cool, they came twice, then it was fine. Our toilet sometimes would not flush every time. We would have to either turn the shower on or the bath sink to get it to flush.

Getting to the Horizon Court you had to walk through the buffet area. This normally had many people going in all directions. To fix this we had D147, we would walk to the aft elevator then go up to the deck. To get anywhere, there is a lot of walking involved. Many times the elevators were full so you had to wait. I have bad knees so the stairs are hard on me.

Hi - I am trying to find out if the Royal has connecting room. What deck was your cabin D147 on? Do you recall if there was a connecting door inside your room?

    Thanks!

  8. Dave and SunsetBeachGal - Thank you, thank you, thank you for replying and for the information! It is exactly what I was looking for. CCer's never fail!! My mother-in-law is trying to plan a trip for 17 of us. My husband's brother has three kids and she would like to book them connecting rooms. She did this for them on the Celebrity Solstice last June and it worked very nicely for them.

    Thanks again!!!

  9. Hi Dave,

I've spent the better part of 3 hours trying to find an answer to my question, but have not found an easy way to search without getting lost and distracted by all the other great information on the threads.

I have learned, tho, that you are THE expert on the Royal Princess. Can you tell me if there are connecting rooms on the Royal? Not just connecting balconies, but connecting rooms, preferably balcony rooms.

    Thanks so much!

  10. Emily! I think I've found a soul sister! My husband's family had a good laugh at my travel binder during our Alaska cruise last summer.

We are most likely doing the British Isles itinerary aboard the Royal Princess in June 2015. I usually would spend all my time leading up to the trip reading every post on CC and pouring over travel books to plan every moment of our trip.

I just got done reading (and copying/pasting!) your thesis/review. No wonder this thread is still so popular 2 years after your trip! What am I going to do for the next 16 months?? My planning is done... I've never put together a travel binder so quickly, LOL

Thanks so much for all the great information and tips.

Best wishes to you - Susan

  11. There is no fixed dinner seating (early or late seating) in the MDR on the night in Victoria. It is open seating starting at 5:00. We went right at 5, were done by 7 and got right off the ship, no waiting in line. The dinner buffet was open from 5-10 pm in Oceanview Café and the speciality restaurants were also open until 10:00 pm. Bistro on 5 was open until 12:30. I think room service closed at midnight, but I can't remember that for sure.

It is walkable, but I would estimate it would take 30+ minutes.

If you take a taxi, it will get you there in 5 minutes. There is also a shuttle and the city bus, but then you have to wait for their schedule. The taxis will accept US dollars.

All aboard was 11:45, but unless you are taking your own luggage off the ship in the morning, you will have to have your luggage outside your stateroom by 11:00.

There were TONS of restaurants in Victoria, especially if you like Indian or Thai food. My original plan was to eat at the Empress Hotel, their curry dinner buffet, but since the MDR opened at 5, we just ate on the ship.

  12. Just got back from the Solstice.

there are shuttles as well as taxis to Victoria. Depending on how many in your party, the taxis may be a better deal. The shuttles were $10/pp roundtrip. The taxis were about $9 to the Empress, no matter how many people in your group.

Dinner was open seating that night in the main dining room at 5:00. We went at 5:00, by the time were done at 7:00 ish, we were cleared to go ashore and there was no line.

Also, if you do any shopping....they accept US dollars, but only give change back in Canadian.

Victoria is really pretty, especially at night when the buildings are all lit up.
