  1. Hi.  I'm considering one of the 2 night mini cruises, either QE or QM2. Is there any dress code for these? Are smart jeans going to be OK for all restaurants?? I can't imagine people packing dress clothes for a mini cruise? Thank you.

  2. Regarding your review point number 10, we had a very similar experience to you in 2012 on Nieuw Amsterdam with VERY bad smell on the balcony. It ruined 7 days of our 10 or 11 day cruise. We are avid balcony users, hence we booked an unusually large balcony stateroom. If you wish to see my original post and others responses, here's a link to my post back then. Believe me when I say we had a very frustrating week. We were not believed by a number of crew. We were promised some compensation and were told this was all logged when we would get in touch. We soon found out afterwards that nothing was logged and we had to file a case with HAL HQ. They EVENTUALLY gave us a future 2 category upgrade, but not without a fight.

  3. Does anyone know if Dive-In now offers gluten free bread rolls? We had lunch delivered to a cabana one day on our last cruise and mine was served in a gluten free English Muffin. Just wondering if they are now using any other GF products at this outlet? Guess which ship may not matter, but we're sailing Westerdam. Thanks.

  4. I have my own ideas but would appreciate others views....

  5. Hi.

Is the dresscode for the PG more casual for lunch than for dinner? We ate breakfast there in the past and were fine with smart casual day wear, so guessing lunch is the same?

Also, do you need to book for lunch, and if so, is that only whilst onboard?

    Thank you.

  6. Hello.

I've sailed HAL quite a few times but been quite casual about not planning meals in advance, some with success and some not, so this time I'm giving in and deciding to be a little more organized, and safe!

I preregistered my gluten allergy with HAL as they requested some time back.

We are in a Neptune Suite and have access to the Neptune Lounge with the concierge, so not sure if they themselves get involved in this sort of thing?

On this occasion I'd like to feel a little more secure with what I'm consuming so have a few questions for anyone "in the know" regarding this subject. Here goes........

    Main Dining Room:

Who do I speak to about ordering in advance? Is it the day before? Do they do special requests? etc etc We are on anytime/flexible dining.

    Pinnacle Grill:

We tend to use this quite a bit but have never ordered in advance. I'm guessing this one may be a bit easier to organize what with it being a fixed menu. Again, who should I speak to and how long in advance? Do they do special requests, as the only dessert I COULD eat, apart from ice cream, was the triple crème brulee. Think they would/could make it?!

    Lido Buffet

They did not on our last cruise, but do HAL label their foods with allergen info, or should I ask to speak with an appropriate person as and when we eat there? If so, who would that be?

Thanks in advance for any info.

  7. Hi,

We are looking into 2 adults in a Grand Suite (probably on Symphony of the Seas) and another 2 adults in an interior opposite due to these adults have learning disabilities, so we have to choose a cabin without a balcony for safety reasons. We will all be using our Grand Suite and balcony together and for some meals in the cabin and on the balcony. I have not sailed RCCL before, usually HAL and Princess, so I am wondering if there are any issues we could face? We are not worried about suite benefits outside the stateroom, but we do want to be able to order from the same menu if allowable, for example. Hope someone could shed some light. Any other info would help

    Thank you.

  8. 1. The port entrance has permanently moved to the new location, which is farther from the train station than the old entrance by the port. However, there is a local bus that goes back and forth between the train station and the "new" entrance for a minimal cost, you can buy the ticket right inside the Civitavecchia station.

The port map that I have attached seems to suggest that you can enter at the old port entrance and catch a shuttle bus at a parking area just beside the fort to most ship docks i.e. 10-13?

  9. Hi.

I have not departed Civiavecchia in a long while. Last time we were there the port areas was in some sort of rebuild, so I have a few questions:

    1) Has the old fort entrance reopened, enabling pedestrian access to the free ship shuttle buses from the fort side instead of having to walk all the way through the town? It was quite easy to walk to this from the train station before the works.

    2) Are there any good value private car transfer companies that anyone can recommend to transfer from Rome hotels DIRECT TO THE SHIP, not the port entrance then having to use a shuttle bus?

    Thanks for your assistance.

    Richard.

  10. Just back from our first Celebrity Cruise and our first Suite experience (RS). 1st let me say we will never again sail in less than a Royal Suite. Our experience was incredible- but to agree with other posters, we spent many evenings looking for additional info on cruise critic and made sure we took a print out of our purchased promised perks on board with us. No need, our concierge John and butler Nelson made sure our needs were anticipated. I am gluten free by medical necessity and must admit I was nervous trusting the food put in front of me. Best week ever. No issues with any meal and our waiter in Luminae had the chef prepare special gluten free foccacia bread for me as well as many special gluten free desserts. We ate, drank, and we're treated like royalty. We enjoyed bridge tours and invites to the helipad (Alaska) sp those were welcomed for the preferred viewings.

If you are seriously thinking of a suite, just do it. But, case in point, spend some time here getting a list of perks. Basically our motto was ask and ye shall receive.

We enjoyed snack platters for afternoon tea, chilled plates in our room in evening, breakfast served most mornings in suite by our bitler, dinners in Tuscan, Murano, and kept returning to Luminae because we adored the service and food was really really good. Sommelier in Luminae was great and we loved trying different wines with pur dinner choices. No one has mentioned but the Michaels Club escort back onto the ship on port days VIP style was great- we were whisked thru the line and back on in a flash.

    Enjoy!

    Khris

As I too require a gluten free diet, this info is really appreciated. I hope you don't mind me asking a few other questions:

Are you able to get by with gluten free dining in both the main dining room and speciality retaurants if you have not preordered your dishes in advance? I prefer not to preplan on holidays if I don't have to! I'm wondering how the handle this.

Any other positives or negatives relating to any other dining venue and room service relating to being gluten free would be really useful also.

    Thank you:)

  11. Thanks to all for your help so far.

On a side note, I also need to eat a gluten free diet for medical reasons, but we don't like to plan ahead for food as much as possible.

It does sound like Royal Suite and Penthouse guests might get a bit more flexibility when using their butler and the speciality restaurants?

We tend to have most evening meals in our suite or at speciality restaurants so we're hoping that my special diet can be covered as and when needed.

Also, do these suite guests receive daily evening hot and/or cold hors d'oeuvres such as on Holland America?

    Thanks for your assistance:)

  12. Hi. I've looked and found a few bits and pieces, but I am sure someone on here will be able to reel off a long list of perks for a Royal Suite. Usually sail HAL suites so don't know that much at the moment. Thanks :)
