  1. I wish I can help with the taste of the black coffee. I gave up drinking it that way. I do like Cuban coffee. So I guess I like a very bold taste, but sweet. That said, I go with 1/2 cup of hot chocolate and the rest coffee. Sometime the hot chocolate machine does not stop in time and it is more hot chocolate with a hint of coffee flavor.

    Thats my 2 cents :)

  2. Lately, I’ve been sailing with carnival. Roulette is same odds as in Vegas and anywhere else in the US. I play $25 minimum 3:2 blackjack. I also play craps, even though double odds sucks.

I pay $200 for two people plus tax and gratuity for the 8 day balcony room cruises. They give me free casino drinks, a $200 room credit, and $1000 casino cash on the premier and ultra cruises. On the elite cruises they’ll pay for drinks for me and my wife anywhere in the ship. They pay for parking, they upgrade me to platinum.

    IMO, carnival is just fine.

How does one get to this level? Better yet..what do you have to do to belong?

  3. Hi..my $.02

We drove from ohio to Miami before. We stopped in Palm Bay, which ended up to be about 4 hour drive. No problems. Since FLL is an hour or so closer...we are planning on stopping in June 2019.

On a plus side...there is a Cuban bakery that is awesome in Palm Bay called Tree of Life. We went there on the way there and back since it was so good.

As a side note...is the parking at the port $15 a day?

  4. For those who have been on the Splendor recently... is the aft pool & hot tubs adult only?

    Hello,

I was on 3/26-4/2.....which is spring break week. If it is, nobody said anything to our kids, that is were they swam most of the time. They said the main pool was crowded and my wife had some rude kids to deal with and she did not want to go back.

    BTW- had a great time.

  5. Your location is South Florida. My location is just outside Glasgow, Scotland. I agree my original post was a bit conflicted, but we booked this trip a long time ago and we have booked our cat into the cattery, our car into the airport car park at Glasgow for two weeks, flights down to London, flights from London to Miami, two nights in a downtown Miami hotel - then the cruise part - back to Miami for an overnight stay on a South Beach hotel, then fly back Miami - London - Glasgow. As regular British Airways customers, on the flight from London to Miami, we have managed to use our frequent flyer miles to get business class upgrades. So, we have invested a lot of time and this is an expensive trip for us.

I appreciate Carnival, like any cruise line or indeed airline, can suffer technical issues. Having suffered technical issues I wanted clarity and a quick decision from Carnival - which I received. I received a second e-mail from them (as some people mentioned above), which says they think they can fix the ship to allow it to follow its advertised itenery on March 12, but have given us the opportunity to cancel with full refund, and to claim any lost airfare costs.

Weighing up all our options, we have decided it would be a hassle to cancel the cattery, car park, domestic and international flights, two different Miami hotels - and lose the business class flights we were looking forward to, so we are going to cancel the cruise, and my wife is currently sitting on her iPad looking into return flights from Miami to Las Vegas mirroring the Sunday to Sunday timescale of the March 12 cruise. We will keep all our Miami arrangements but just go to Vegas instead of going on the cruise.

Part of me thinks 'just go on the cruise - it'll be fine'. There's still a doubt though. So, given the opportunity of a full refund, we're taking it. There's a lot of considerations... between now and March 12 maybe they won't fix it and we passed up the chance to cancel. Maybe thousands of people booked on the cruise cancel, and it sails out with half capacity and little atmosphere on board... who knows? We don't, and given the possibility that Carnival really don't know either (otherwise why even offer refunds and refunded airfare if they were 100% confident it will be fixed), then we're just cancelling.

Better go - need to get Wynn in Las Vegas booked ASAP...

WOW Scotland. I thought I had it rough trying to get things straight to get to Miami from Ohio. I am glad you can get a refund and make sure your vacation is what it should be--Enjoyable.

Someday I might get to Scotland!

  6. FTTF= Faster to the fun. It is a pass Carnival offers that allows you to get on the ship quicker(wedding parties, platinum members etc get on first). Once on the ship, your room will be ready. There is also a dedicated line at the pursers desk. Then if you tender to ports, you have a different line for the tender and get on quicker.

WCMC- Warm chocolate melting cake- delicious. I believe only in the main dinning room (MDR)???- not sure---if not...I am missing out!!!!

DH- this one I looked into because I did not know. I read it stands for Dear Husband. DW= dear Wife DD= dear daughter. But personally I like what you said :)

If I have anything wrong, please correct...I am still learning

  7. Glad you enjoyed yourself.

I will be going on Carnival Splendor in March, and was wondering about the cost of the photo package with the thumb drive. Do you recall the price? Just trying to work that into our budget.. DW was thinking it was around $120-$150

  8. I 1st read your Splendor review. I was so impressed, I had to read this one. Thanks for the good read. I am in awe on how much you know about each stop and what to do. I liked the last of your trip about PR and OSJ. We will be going in March and just walking around. I think the forts are 1 mile from each other so the family can make that walk. Not that we are fit...but we are "in training' by walking around our neighborhood. It is a 2 mile hike. So hopefully be ready. Not sure due to the heat...So old mom and dad might need some breaks.

Do you have any suggestions about OSJ and the forts?

  9. The bug will hit you. Get ready:)

Cozumel...been there twice, the first time was my honeymoon but Carnival did a disembarkation stop for Playa Del Carmen, for an excursion. This was the first time we got off the ship. We went to the Tulum Ruins and it was the first sight of the multi-colored Caribbean sea. To this day, this is my most cherished vacation memory !!!

My daughter was 11 and my other daughter was 7 when we did a cruise and stopped at Cozumel for the 2nd time. The Tulum Ruins was a required site. I did research and planned my own excursion (which I am sure you can appreciate).

My daughters (and myself) learned so much. When we got back, my 11 year old had to do a project on the Aztecs and she did it on Tulum. She incorporated what she learned from the guide into her project, which in turn, taught the teacher.

So we really did not do anything in Cozumel.

BTW..The trip was during spring break and no problems with the people. Yes people drink but everyone is there to enjoy themselves, so everyone is happy!!!
