Well, it’s not limited to Beyond!  We are currently on Edge in a MC SS.  When the seas are rough and the wind is 90 degrees to the cabin we get squeaking, rat, a tat, tat and clicking all night long.  Then add what sounds like a bowling ball on the ceiling.  A “joiner” came and greased and tightened the sliding door.  We were told midship creaks more.  The cabin has a shim on one side of the ceiling, but there is no noise in that spot.

    image.jpg

We were on the 13 March Edge sailing in MC SS 11160 and had major creaking noises coming from all different walls and ceiling as well as what sounded like a screw rolling back and worth in the ceiling in the bathroom.

Has anyone been having problems logging into their Celebrity info?  Since yesterday, I cannot get in to see my reservations.  It doesn't reject me for the wrong password.  It says:

Bed Position:    Positioned between closet / bathroom door and couch; bed was facing a wall with mounted TV.

Balcony Type:    Regular balcony next to Magic Carpet

Balcony/Window Size:   Balcony sticks out from the ship due to being next to Magic Carpet; extra wide and deep (photos attached).

Balcony/Window View/Obstruction:     The Magic Carpet "teeth" were sometime visible pending the position of Magic Carpet. Additional window on the balcony facing forward was very nice.  The orange paint on one side of the balcony could be bothersome to some.

                                                                                                                                                                 Balcony Overhang?:

Magic Carpet Issues?:    Never heard or saw the Magic Carpet move pass our balcony.

Noise Issues?:   Our cabin creaked and popped loudly, all day and night during rough seas.  We also heard what sounded like someone was foot stomping (although no one was). Noise came from all sides of walls and ceiling. The bathroom also had a minor noise of some sort of screw rolling back and forth in the ceiling wall (this was not heard in the bedroom).

                                                                                                                                                             Wind Issues?:     No

Connecting Cabin? Where Does it Connect?:       Yes, connects in a separate private hallway.

Suite Details:   We had to open two doors to get into our suite. One door from the main hallway opened into a small private hallway which connected to our suite and could also connect with another cabin. The second door opened into our suite.   The table next to the couch was very large, but extremely low to the ground. We were not able to use the table to eat our in-room dining meals unless we sat on the floor.

Advantages/Problems/Comments:      See cabin noise issues.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Would You Book It Again?: We would not book this cabin again due to multiple noise issues that the engineers could not fix.

I can confirm butlers are back for Sky Suites on Edge as of today’s 13 March sailing. Our butler, Albert, came to introduce himself. He is taking care of 26 suites across multiple decks.

I just want to follow up on my previous comment and mention that our butler also sometimes works at the Retreat serving drinks to help out during busy times.

Any chance you could ask the Retreat Host when they are coming back and post here? Thanks!

At the end of January, I was told by someone from Celebrity’s Executive Office that our sailing on 13 March will have butlers in Sky Suites. I’ll find out tomorrow and will report back.

Thank you. We like to take breakfast on the balcony. Are regular chairs available too ?

Those are the only chairs we had. We sailed in concierge class so we had the footstools (which are a separate piece). Not sure if the footstools come with lower balcony cabin categories.

  7. We cruised in an aft cabin twice. The first time, we had not soot, but the second time, it was quite bad and just had to be cautious and wipe the rail off and put down towels on the chairs. Would soot stop us from booking aft cabin again? Definitely not as the views are totally worth it to us.

  8. I see. You have the same TA as mine. You can see my post someplace on this thread. I guess I didn't realize that the TA gives more OBC for a Suite than for the AQ, etc. (we received $300 OBC, plus the extra $100, plus the $50 Loyalty.) No OBC from Celebrity because we only get 1 Perk for the AQ. ;)

I did not know the TA offered any OBC for AQ. Good to know! Your OBC is still a decent amount.

  9. $650 OBC form the TA? That's insane! How can they offer that much? So you have $950 total OBC?

    Yes, that's correct - $950 total.

TA OBC offer: $500 for booking a suite, $100 bonus coupon that the TA advertised last week, and $50 for being part of their loyalty program.

We would have also had an additional $250 OBC for booking a cruise onboard last August (I transferred that one to the Edge) but we chose to spend the $250 OBC then instead on our future sail. Our OBC on that sailing totaled to $1325, including the $250 for booking a cruise onboard.

  10. I posted a few days ago that I booked the Sky Suite but did not include more information.

Booked S1 aft for 13 Jan 2019 sailing; $2999 p/p with GO BEST perks (unlimited wifi, premium beverage package, pre-paid gratuities, $300 OBC), and $650 OBC from TA.

  11. I took my S1 corner aft off hold and paid the $500 today. I was still told that it was an infinite glass wall and larger than the S2's and S3's, but still do not know if I totally believe that or not; only time will tell...Dec.13, 2018 for all the special gatherings and things...but who knows for sure...

I just came across a picture on Celebritys's FB page of Sky Suite. It says that Sky Suites do not have infinite verandas.

    https://m.facebook.com/CelebrityCruises/photos/p.10155100412150879/10155100412150879/?type=3&source=47

We are also booked in S1 aft cabin. I wonder about the views from the balcony with the rounded end of the ship.

  12. So enjoyed reading all of your review and seeing all of the pictures! We are traveling as a family of 7, we will be in balcony cabins, but not able to swing the suites for so many of us. I hope the main dining room is good. You mention going to the persian gardens everyday and paid $75 total for 6 days or per day? what is that for? Just to go there, or to use their spa facilities, can you please mention that.

Since you have been before to ALaska, what excursion would you recommend for our party of 7, 2 couples in their thirties, a 18 yr old and my husband and I in our late 50's in great physical health. Any info is greatly appreciated. We want it to be fun for them and excursions are pricey for a big group. Have you ever done a helicopter ride to a glacier etc. Thanks again for taking the time to write your review, it was very informative and helpful.

The Persian Garden pass allows you to use the spa facilities, including the relaxation lounge. The Persian Garden room includes heated tile loungers, steam room, sauna, and tropical showers. Depending on the ship, there may be more "chambers" in the Persian Garden - Celebrity Reflection is one of those ships (I enjoyed the cold room). The Relaxation Lounge on the Solstice class is located at the front of the ship with great views of the Ester; it has cushioned chairs and beds to relax on. This room is also used as a waiting area for individuals who have scheduled spa treatments.

In Juneau this past August, we did the float trip/whitewater rafting (booked through Celebrity) and that was fun and not very expensive. For our first time to Juneau a few years ago, we booked a 3-hr Mendenhall Glacier trek, which also included a helicopter ride to and from the glacier. This excursion (booked through Celebrity) was very pricey but it was worth every penny. They also offer shorter treks, if price is an issue. The helicopter ride over and through the glacier was amazing on its own too.

We did a float plane ride in Ketchikan our first time around. I can't remember the company that we used but I'm sure there are many wonderful companies that you can search for online or other threads may offer some information.

In Skagway, you can take the White Pass train ride or rent a car and drive up to Canada on the Klondike Highway, which also offers some scenic spots.

Unfortunately, Alaskan cruises and excursions are quite pricey. I hope that you will enjoy your cruise and visit to the various ports and beyond.

  13. Hi. Thanks for all your efforts to chronical your Alaska cruise. We're considering their June 2017 Seatle to Seattle cruise. Are you aware if the Soltsice has a cigar lounge? I enjoy a premium cigar & am finding it more difficult these days to be able to do just that. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I am not aware that there is a cigar lounge on Solstice as Celebrity has limited smoking areas. I do know that I have witnessed many people smoking cigars at the Sunset Bar at the designated area for smokers. Others may be more helpful to let you know whether or not cigars are sold on the ship.

  14. Lucie, thanks for a richly detailed review of this beautiful ship!

I love the crisp photos. I see I'm not the only one who takes photos of every meal that comes my way.

    Which camera/lenses did you use?

    Cheers!

    Norris

    I used Canon 5D Mark II with the following Canon lenses: 28-70mm 2.8, 100mm 2.8, and 70-200mm 2.8.

My husband used my old Canon 40D with wide lens: Canon 10-22mm 3.5-4.5.

It looks like I may need to take some time to read through your many reviews and learn about other cruise lines and sailings through YOUR lenses :).

  15. Enjoyed both the S and the M class ships but probably the S more. The S obviously is a newer ship so a bit more up to date with nicer art distributed about the ship which I enjoy. The S also has a larger assortment of breakfast and lunch choices due to it's larger size. But I would happily sail either ship if it had an itinerary that appealed with great ports of call. We did notice the Infinity was quite chilly inside as we got to the Inside passage and for the rest of the cruise. Always had to wear a heavy sweatshirt or jacket. Many people wearing their puffy winter jackets indoors because the temperature on the ship was fairly cold. Did you notice that on the Solstice? Even on our two trans atlantics on S ships the air temperature was kept comfortable but not on the Infinity. Don't know if this is a normal Alaska thing.

That is quite odd about the temperature on the Infinity ship. I typically get very cold, especially in restaurants, but I never had to wear a sweater or light jacket while walking around the Solstice, other than when going outside on the decks/balcony.

Good information about the breakfast/lunch assortments on the M-class ships.

  16. I enjoyed your review immensely! We just returned from our Infinity cruise to Alaska and can't wait to take the Solstice to Alaska given the different port stops. We have also only sailed the S class ships so M class is a different experience. We will be sailing Solstice to Hawaii next September so I was really happy to read your positive review of the ship after reading some negative ones. But then again I have read negative reviews of the Infinity and found the reviews to be without merit in my opinion.

I was a little disappointed that you did not review Victoria. I noted that you have been there before so just wondering if you did not enjoy this port?

Thanks again for the great pics and review.

Do you enjoy/like the S-class or M-class better?

We actually decided on the day of the Victoria port that we would not be getting off the ship. We spent all day there a few years ago and enjoyed it, but we were just not in the mood to walk around or tour in the late afternoon/evening on this day, knowing we still had to pack. We also just wanted to enjoy our time on the Solstice for the last few hours. Maybe we'll feel more adventurous next time! :)

  17. This is the email that I received back in May in regards to the Persian Garden pass: "A 1 day pass is $25, 3 days/$50, and 6 days/$75. These prices are per person." We returned from an Alaska sailing on the Solstice a few weeks ago and the spa charged $99 for the week-long pass.

Which ship will you be cruising on? I'm only familiar with the Persian Garden on the Solstice and Reflection, both S-Class ships. The PG on the Reflection has more heated tile loungers and also more chambers compared to the one on Solstice, which only has steam and sauna rooms. There are also tropical showers in PG.

Here are a couple of photos of PG on the Solstice. The one on the Reflection is about twice the size.
