  1. Back in 2015 my wife and I did the Avalon Magnificent Europe from Budapest to Amsterdam for our honeymoon.

At the time we were 31 years of age. Though the demographic on the ship was older, we had a great time. We never felt out of place and we had a great time mingling and meeting people on board. There were approximately 100 cruisers on board, so we quickly got to know mostly everyone. We actually spent most of our time with a couple who were 69 and 71 years old. They became our drinking buddies for the trip, whether it was at dinner or up on the deck of the ship.

We took part in most of the included excursions, however we did venture off on our own at times if things were moving to slow or if there were other sights we wanted to take in. For example we only had half a day in Bamberg so we skipped the included tour, saw all the sights we wanted to see at a quick pace, and then enjoyed the remainder of our time at the Schlenkerla brewery drinking smokey beer (a specialty of Bamberg).

We enjoyed every minute of the cruise and didn't have one negative thing to say about it. It was an experience we will never forget and if finances allow we would do it again without hesitation.

  2. The Mrs. and I were on this sailing back in October going East to West.

All the tours were quite great. You can always start with the tour and if it's not to your liking you can leave at any time. Just let the tour guide know.

We did extensive planning for each port prior to the trip, so some tours we did not participate in as we did our own thing. Bamberg was one of them and we're glad we did because we got to see a lot more, albeit at a quicker pace.

We had an issue deciding between Krumlov and Salzburg, and in the end we decided to stay on the boat and sail through the Wachau Valley, and honestly it was the BEST decision we made all trip. Although seeing either Krumlov or Salzburg would be amazing as well, the Wacahau Valley is truly unreal, and you'd never get to see it from that vantage point if you were on land. You can always go and see Krumlov or Salzburg any time, but you can't see the Wachau Valley like that. Also the few days prior were very intense so it was nice to relax on deck that day.

Wurzburg is also an excursion you don't want to miss. The Prince Bishop's Residence is a must see!
