  1. I’m researching all of this to, so my information is not complete.

No, they are not walking distance. They are in the town of Puerto Plata, about 8 miles away. I read that if you catch a cab inside amber cove they charge a flat rate, cabs outside the main gates will negotiate. I think I read the cable car was $10-12 a person, or close to.

There are outside tour groups, marysol and iguana mama, that have city tours that include the cable car and a distillery as well as cigars and lunch.

  2. 1) I’ll be taking my soon to be 18 yr old cousin, I assume bars in Amber Cove go by Carnivals drinking age (21), but do you know if they do? If so, are they strict, do they card?

    2) it appears there is a small beach between AC and the resort. Is it easy to get to and walking distance?

    Thanks!

  3. I’m sorry to be ‘that person’ but - these animals are usually taken out of the wild, away from their pods and not able to migrate, play, communicate, or breed with other dolphins ever again. Illness and early death are common. They are depressed and being forced to perform for you.

Just imagine being taken from your family, never have human interaction again, being kept in a tiny room, and being forced to let someone hang all over you regardless of your mood or health.

I love animals and I definitely wish I could interact with them, but wild animals are not toys.

Sorry if it feels like a lecture, but just please consider.

  4. I think it's too far to walk from the bridge to the port. Get a 1 day Muni pass, about $25/person, it covers the Bart (subway), buses, and cable cars. Take the Powell/mason cable car to fishermans wharf then catch a city bus right to the bridge. The bridge is about a mile accross, but there is a bus stop on both sides of the bridge, if you you only want to walk one way (it can get cold and windy up there)

  5. I did the 2 beach chair, unlimited ride excursion as well. good idea, the covered chairs fill up fast. but staying right at the port in Roatan is your best bet, with nice sandy beach, snorkeling off a little pier, shopping, nature walk, food and bar right there.

Chankanaab is national park in Cozumel. there is a fee to get in but a lot to see. nice park with small sand beach (mostly rocky shoreline, but good for snorkeling), nature walk, tortilla and tequila makers, and dolphin/sea lion shows. its a full day if you want to relax, swim, and have a nice walk.

in Belize, we took a ships excursion, which we never do, but considering the distance of anything from the cruise port and the crime rate in Belize City, we decided to keep it simple and stay in a group. we did a really great river tour and Mayan ruins. we saw iguana, crocodiles, and manatee.

    have a great trip!

  6. We just got done booking a cruise on the Magic for May 4th and only paid 70.00 plus port charges PER PERSON. I almost fell over when I heard the amount. (and that was for a room with a balcony). We skipped a cruise last year but have been loyal members. I think its d/t the bad publicity. There loss is our gain!

my Mom, Dad, & I will be there with you! (I got the letter, but have to take them. past cruises have been gifts from them, time for a little pay back)

we had to pay the 3rd person fare & we upgraded to the balcony to, but that's 3 of us for around $500!!

    See you on board!

  7. so, we've eliminated it being for people who have not cruised in a while (I last sailed 6 months ago), big spenders (I am not), and high VIFP levels (no me again). the best guess I've seen, that applies to me, is doing the online survey after a negative experience. the squeaky wheels getting oiled?

I think I'll go to Belize, as I will be in Galveston in May anyway. Definitely, upgrading to the balcony.
