  1. What about Antigua?  The only port I have something scheduled is St. Lucia - going dolphin and whale watching.  I want to snorkel but am not sure which island is the best. I prefer to do the ship tours just because I don't have to worry about anything or plan anything. They all sound wonderful - it's hard to pick and choose. One part of me wants to do stuff but the other part wants to hang back and stay away from the crowds.

My wife booked the Sanctuary for the entire week as we don’t have a lot of excursions planned.  It has been worth the money as the cushioned chairs are the most comfortable on deck and we have direct access to the Spa Pool below.  The staff here is extremely friendly and makes sure we have plenty of water.  They also serve afternoon tea at 3.  It’s extremely windy up here when the ship is moving so be aware of that.  The only thing I question is placing the ‘quiet sanctuary’ directly below the ship’s horn. 😊

So if you are on a 10 day cruise, do you pay for all 10 days?  It would seem to me that not many people use it on the first and last days.

    Thanks-

  3. Thanks for the live report. I board in 1 1/2 weeks and I cannot wait!  Please warm up the Terrace pool as that is where I'll be spending a lot of my time.  Is the Spa pool busy when you are in the Sanctuary?

If you are a Tequila drinker I'm interested in your thoughts on their new drink - Mayan Heat. If not no worries - I'll find out soon enough. I'm trying to figure out if I should purchase an internet package or not. I'd like to send a few pictures home and maybe a post or two to social media, but I don't plan on spending a lot of time on the computer. Is it possible to do this port side with my phone?

Looking forward to more reports -

  4. Do all cruise lines do this?  It sounds like a giant chess game to some extent. Fascinating.  Got an upgrade offer tonight from balcony to mini suite for $300pp / 10 night cruise.  Turned it down as I'm booked in a corner aft room and it's something I've wanted to try for a long time.  That, plus since I'm cruising solo that would be an additional $600 out of pocket. Now if they come along with a move down offer.....

  5. Thank you. I read that and will contact them on Monday. I am hoping to hear from someone that has experienced it first hand. When we sailed out of San Diego last fall embarkation for the two of us was horrible. So much confusion - I had to ask three staff members for a wheelchair before someone finally listened. No porters so it was a long line of cranky people lugging their suitcases. Hopefully Oahu will be smoother.

  6. Family members will be sailing on the POA in October and I'm trying to find some information regarding embarkation day.

I have read some posts that says porters are available with luggage but other said no porters. Can someone who has recently sailed let me know? The group will certainly need help with luggage.

The second concern is wheelchair assistance. One traveler will need assistance from the curb, through check in and to the room. She cannot stand or walk for long periods of time.

Is there port or POA staff available at or near the curb?

    Thank you -

  7. We sailed on Infinity last fall in a RS! Heaven! There were Elite coupons in our cabin upon arrival. Internet, laundry, ice cream scoop I think were the 3. We exchange our scotch and vodka for Baileys and a nice bottle of red wine. The mini fridge was stocked, but we removed most and kept water, juice and medicine in there. Our most awesome butler would check the supply and replenish as necessary.

    You'll love the RS!

  8. We were in a RS and had the opportunity to eat at Blu on a "no reservation" basis, which wasn't a problem because Mom likes to eat early.

On our 15 night cruise, we ate in the MDR 3 times for dinner and a majority of the rest in Blu. We loved Blu because the atmosphere is more cordial, intimate and fun. Breakfast we were seated with others which gave Mom a chance to chat and me a chance to wake up. I had the same thing for breakfast - the lox platter, no bagel, scrambled eggs and bacon. Mom typically ordered granola/yogurt and eggs.

As with everything else, you have to know your preferences and expectations.

  9. As others have said there is a lot to do on these islands. We did the Eclipse last February and have it booked again for 2017 because we enjoyed it so much. We did island tours on most islands and it amazed us at just how different each one was. They are all beautiful in their own unique ways. The people are so welcoming and happy to show you their heritage. We missed the beach time on this cruise as we only went to a few beaches and so will make a point to include much more beach time in 2017. Enjoy, no matter what choice you make. Good luck in your decision.

I noticed in 2017 the Eclipse is not calling on Grenada, but doing an overnight in one of the ABC islands. Do you know why they are changing the itinerary? Grenada was one of the islands I wanted to visit!

  10. Another one chiming in about so much more to do on this cruise besides hanging out at the beach/pool. As one person suggested - check out the Celebrity excursions. If you can find a copy of the Celebrity dailies for that cruise, take a look at what's happening on the ship while in port. Mom and I have attended talks on famous artists, attended cooking classes, window shopped all the pretty baubles and even had fun trying on some rings and necklaces!

Someone else suggested the Panama Canal and if you haven't done that and it's of interest then look at that itinerary. Mom and I sailed on the Infinity last fall from San Diego CA to Fort Lauderdale FL. What's nice about one of the Celebrity itineries is you have an overnight in Panama which gives you the opportunity to explore the city as well as passing through all 3 locks.

  11. Mom and I had a RS on Infinity last November as we sailed through the Panama Canal. Our reasons were space and the assistance of the Michael's Club concierge and our butler.

Space - Mom took the bedroom and I slept on the sofa bed, which, to be honest was not bad at all. We have traveled many times before and realize we need our own sleeping quarters - otherwise we'd keep each other awake. It was a 2 week cruise and we enjoy a balcony and having an extra large one with loungers was perfect. We did order breakfast 3 or 4 times and dinner once or twice.

MC Concierge and butler. Mom's 83 and I'm ....younger ;) For boarding she used the wheelchair assistance and it was nice to go right to MC's and wait for our room to be ready. Teguh, our butler was very caring and always made sure we were doing okay and didn't need anything.

For us, it was a huge comfort knowing there were two people we could call on for help. They were always around to lend a helping hand or answer a question. Teguh learned our routine very quickly yet was never an intrusion.
