  1. I do look forward to the day when gratuities is included in the price - and then you can tip people providing extraordinary services.

When we order a cruise with RCI in Norway, we also pay the "service charge" or "tips" or what you want to name it as a part of the ticket.

I think that is OK, and so I can give additionally tips where I want to.

  2. Thank you!

I got response on my mail after 32 minutes (marvellous!) and all things are now OK. Somebody must have hurried up something...

I am very satisfied and even more looking forward to the cruise!

  3. I heard that there is a possibility that Holland America may change their smoking on balconies policy to accommodate both groups in the near future.

I asked about it as there seems to be a debate on a recent suggestion that I had made to Holland America earlier this summer.

The response was that they are working on a solution to make everyone happy, non smokers and smokers alike.

    soccer

That sounds promising... And maybe, if there is found a good solution for all of us, also other cruise lines will adopt such a solution? Important to take care of paying customers, smoking or non-smoking... ;)

  4. It was asked on either this or another topic, and there weren’t very many people responding, but I switched from Royal Caribbean and Celebrity to Holland specifically because of the smoking policy. I also suspect there are a lot more of people like myself who are making this switch.

I firmly believe all cruise lines can accommodate smoking on their balconies. I know it's been said before, but why can't cruise lines keep the back quarter of the ships balconies as smoking friendly? If I had the option of choosing which cabin I wanted specifically because was allowed on only so many balconies on a ship, I would choose one, even if it is not in a "prime" location. I would even be willing to pay a little more for this cabin. When people make their reservations, a simple "this is a smoking balcony and so are your neighbors" disclaimer should suffice, so those making the reservation can have the choice to NOT book it if it bothers them.

I do strongly agree! I thought at first it might be possible to sell smokers cabins on port side and no smokers on starboard side. That way no one would be bothered by their neighbor's smoking.

And even worse; also electronic cigarettes, who not has any flame and no smell, are been prohibited on private balconies at NCL. I do not understand this. When the Chinese very soon invades the cruise market, so we shall see that policy will be changed back... As we know, customers and dollars are the most important for the shipowners...

Maybe some Chinese shipowners would start a cruise line? :)

  5. When we a couple of years ago cruised on Freedom, we found it very convenient to find automatic soda fountains to the "coke-glass" that follows a soda package. Much easier than running into bars for filling up the glass....

When we later cruised on Navigator, it was disappointing not to find such automatic fountains on board.

We are cruising next time with Oasis. Can anybody tell me about the situation on this ship; automatic soda fountains or not? :)

  6. We are a party of 9who skal cruise on Jewel next month. It was a "fight" to get reserved a table for 9, as 8 was the max ... But everything is possible, and we got it!

So it is just to see if the table for 9 is there when we arrives....

  7. I shall have a cruise with Quantum in May 2015 and looking forward to this with great expectations! As we say in Norway (translated): we must take the bad with the good. Maybe I will not like some of the new things, or maybe I can say: "I have seen the future, and it works!"

If the future do not work, there are plenty of cruiseships to use in the future.

  8. A question: we shall have 21 days cruise on Jewel and have booked at mini suite for getting a little more room.

On our first Caribbean cruise, in 2011, we also had booked a mini suite (Adventure of the Seas) and there was a separate wardrobe- and suitcaseroom. Very convenient. On later cruises we have only booked balcony cabins, and now I wonder: do Jewel have such a wardrobe-room in their mini suties?

  9. My wife and myself have tried NCL one time before, and RCI five times. Honestly, we prefer RCI but the difference is very small, and I am sure your mother will have a good cruise! We are soon leaving for a NCL cruise again. For us the destinations are most important. Most of the ships have good service and standard.

  10. Isn't it wonderful ee can all choose. I gound my one RCI cruise okay but not great. Suites on NCL are the best and being platinum adds to it.

Hope all your future cruises are great.

Oh thank you! As platinum member at RCI I understand that you prefer NCL, but myself I chooses RCI when possible. Or Holland America, where I am very satisfied. But honestly, I am not the type that breaks rules, som I will of course fall in under the new regimes... And maybe stop smoking, who knows? :)

  11. Butt I still wonder how NCL or any other cruiseline will be able to detect el-cig-smoking in the cabins.... (I have no intentions of breaking any rules, and my cruise goes before November, and after that I have two booked on RCI which is a much better line, in my opinion).

  12. NCL has prohibited E-cigs in areas where cigarettes are prohibited.

Any questions should be addressed to NCL since they made the decision to do this. Any discussion on this board is fruitless.

Oh yes, and for myself that is no problem as my booked cruise is in October. But if el-cigs are not allowed, NCL will never see me on another cruise on their ships.

  13. I just wondered if elecronic cigarettes are allowed on board RCI ships, now when smoking no longer is allowed on private balconies.

I bave seen that NCL prohibits electronic cigarettes too (from November) which I find remarkable. No fire danger, no smell, no ashtrays.... Nothing for anybody to dislike!

How is the practice on RCI ships? Anyone who knows?

  14. I have read that smoking on NCL balconies will be prohibited from November. In the information also was mentioned that elecronic cigarettes were prohibited. I do not understand why? No smell, no risc of fire, no ashtrays.. What is the problem? And who shall make the control, with no cigarette butts and no smell? I wonder...
