  1. We did a Spirit cruise in October last year and loved every minute of it. If you get the chance while in Noumea, do the Amadee Island shore excursion. It's expensive and you have to book it pretty much as soon as you board to avoid missing out, but it's worth every cent. We had a ball on the island.

A tip on the jewellery, wait until after the last at shore day as the specials are incredible! My girlfriend spent about $300 on watches, bracelets and other stuff, but she saved about $600, so it was worth it.

Most of all, just go with the flow, and as others have said, make sure you read your fun times newsletter every night so you can organise your days easier if you're so inclined.

I want to do the Amedee island tour this time for sure we leave on Thursday 30th jan doing a B2b 19 days this will be our 3rd and 4th cruise on the carnival spirit I will try and fined out some wine prices for the post about :)

  2. We are cruising on the Spirit in September and this is our very first cruise. The tips and advice here has been great. I did read somewhere that one of the shops sells spirits although expensive it maybe worth it?

So we can budget for alcohol, what's a beer worth and cocktails of the day? Also does the adults pool get very crowded and how hard is it to get a deck chair?

    So many questions lol

    Very excited first timer

  5. I'm new to cruising too and maybe I got lucky but I did my research I went though the cruise ship site and got the pricing that they were charging and the obc they were giving then went to my TA and asked what they would do it for was surprised when she gave me the same price and obc so I booked got $1100 obc all good right but then there was a big price drop just before our final payment I'm talking $2500 so I rang my TA and she was right on to it she she rings me back got us just over $2000 off plus we kept our obc I was happy with that :)

  6. Just reading your last post again. I would not take the duty free with me to Cascades. There is quite a long walk from the park entrance to the waterfalls and most if it is uphill.

At the Cascades we just jumped into the first water hole you get to but you can clamber further up, as most do - especially the kids.

Get there early as the cascades is very popular.

Thank you so much :) feeling a lot better

  7. You will find in Vila that the taxis at the start of the line as you walk off the ship near the markets charge heaps more than the ones further down or in town.

Walk half way down the markets and take a water taxi into town for just $5. Look for the signs. We negotiated in town for $90 all day including Cascades.

Just make absolutely sure that you agree to the price and where he is taking you before you leave and don't pay until you return. This is very important.

Also prices at the shops and markets are fixed so please do not embarrass yourself and insult them by bargaining for a better deal. They will just stare are you.

Aussie dollars are readily accepted in Vila.

We used Francs in Noumea as although they do accept AU at the terminal markets and tour offices, you got a much better price using local currency.

When you get the water taxi were does it drop you is it near the duty free shops and does it bring you back to the same place on the way back???? Never been to port villa before very excited but very nervous also traveling with 2 children 11 and 15. Also when you buy duty free grog do they take it to the ship for you or should I buy it after cascade so I don't have to carry it around :)

  9. Oh & my other advice for this port. Toddle off the ship, walk past the throng of pax lined for cruise tours & taxis, walk the gauntlet past the market stalls, & wait until 1/2 way along or so until u see a decent looking taxi bus/ van u like the look of. Negotiate before jumping in the car ;) & walk away if they are too high. Cruise prices are a reality! We just dealt with it!

Thank you so that's $120 au that's good and cascade is $25 au each sounds good

  10. If Radiance charge like princess, then totes go on your own. We hired our taxi driver, went to the museum (saw the sand drawing with the large princess tour) cascades, tanna coffee house, & a private village tour, for a lot less than what the princess tour's equivalent was. We had our own time lines & no groups. We thought villa was a very safe feeling place & would go again!

Thank you feeling a little more comfortable about doing our own thing now never been to port villa before but want to do the cascades and duty free shopping should a family of 4 look at a taxi or bus ???? How much do you think we should pay the driver to do these 2 things Aussie dollar ???

  11. Aus money fine in Vila but we alway convert to local francs in Noumea as they are not so happy to take Aus money.

And yes you can get any of the buses (vans with a B on number plate) to take you to Cascades. Ask them how much to take you and wait while you go in Pay them afterwards.

And I agree aboutHideaway if you are interested in snorkelling. Fee to get on island (as there is to visit Cascades) and you can hire snorkel gear.

What does the B on the number plate mean

  12. We did a 19 day cruise around Tasmania from Melbourne to Sydney then out to the South Pacific I had the worst sea legs at port Arthur I was standing in a house walking up stairs and the whole house was swaying it was so bad I had to get out of the house sit and rest big drink of water and it subsided after that I was fine

  13. Thats great Ravie80..

Especially, if you are are new to this, and that you managed to catch the drop through booking and monitoring what is going on with your cruise...

Too many folk, just book and don't ever revisit/check, (or dont know how to).

Also good to see that the pseudo Aussie line, and especially an Aussie agent, is now answering the call..

    Sue and Phil.
