  1. We let Carnival pick our Balcony and they gave us room 2277 on the Dream it's a cove balcony any info if this is going to be an issue?

    Thanks

    Arlo

I just booked that same room for January 2017. Can't wait. I've had other balconies, this will be my first Cove. We're excited about being so close to the open water!

  2. From Cruise Critic:

Update (August 23, 9:29 a.m. EDT): Carnival has rerouted one more ship, Carnival Liberty. Details below.

Update (August 23, 8:47 a.m. EDT): Danny has been downgraded to a tropical storm, with 50-mph winds. According to the National Hurricane Center, tropical storm warnings are in effect for Antigua, Barbuda, Montserrat, St. Kitts, Nevis, and Anguilla. There also are tropical storm watches for St. Maarten, Guadeloupe, St. Barthelemy, St. Martin, Saba and St. Eustatius.

Update (August 22, 10:44 a.m. EDT): Norwegian Cruise Line is the latest to make itinerary changes in an effort to avoid Hurricane Danny. The new ports of call are listed below.

(August 22, 7:43 a.m. EDT) -- At least two cruise lines have been affected by Hurricane Danny, the first hurricane to hit the Atlantic this season.

Royal Caribbean and Carnival altered ships' Eastern Caribbean itineraries to avoid the Category 2 storm, which is heading toward the Leeward Islands (St. Thomas, St. Maarten and St. Kitts, to name a few). Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas and Adventure of the Seas and Carnival Glory will visit the Western Caribbean instead.

The storm -- which has maximum sustained winds of 100 miles per hour -- is expected to weaken into a tropical storm on Sunday.

See the most up-to-date list of itinerary changes, below.

    Royal Caribbean

Oasis of the Seas: Oasis' August 22 sailing, which departs from Fort Lauderdale, was forced to scrap its Eastern Caribbean itinerary for Nassau, Costa Maya and Cozumel.

Adventure of the Seas: Scheduled to leave San Juan August 22, the ship will not stop in St. John, Antigua, St. Lucia and Barbados. According to member gunkelj on our Cruise Critic message boards, its new itinerary includes St. Maarten, Aruba, Bonaire and St. Thomas.

    Carnival

Carnival Glory: The seven-night cruise, scheduled to depart August 22 from Miami, will no longer call at Half Moon Cay, St. Thomas, San Juan and Grand Turk. Instead, the ship will visit Grand Cayman, Roatan, Belize and Cozumel.

Carnival Liberty: Liberty will sail most of its original itinerary. The ship, which leaves from San Juan, will spend two days at sea instead of one, bumping its St. Thomas call from August 24 to the 29th. It will then continue to Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Maarten and St. Thomas before returning to San Juan. St. Kitts will be missed due to the extra sea day.

    Norwegian

Norwegian Getaway: The Miami-based ship will now call at Nassau, Ocho Rios and Cozumel in lieu of its original itinerary.

Other ships, such as Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas, Navigator of the Seas and Independence of the Seas have similar itineraries. We'll continue to keep you updated as more information becomes available.

  3. So looking forward to the Victory for our 20th Anniversary in September! His 3rd cruise, my 8th (unless I can sneak one in between now and then!!)

Appreciate the pics you posted. Looking forward to Caspian Wine Bar. Unless they change it to Alchemy Martini Bar during Dry Dock. I like Alchemy too, but was really wanting to see the Caspian Wine Bar. Actually picked this cruise as green is my favorite color. Yes, I'm that shallow, lol. Looks like you guys had a great time. Our itinerary is Jamaica/Grand Cayman. I'd cruise every month if I lived in Miami!

  4. I haven't done photos since the 2006 cruise. If memory serves me right I think they were about $10 a piece. Usually 8x10s. I bought a handful back then and haven't looked at them since.

As for smoke filled rooms... I know the casino gets a little smoky though I seem to recall non smoking sections. For the life of me I can't recall if they smoked in the clubs or not.

Room service tipping...I usually give $2 - $3 depending on how much was delivered. Coffee (or tea) and danishes, $2, sandwiches or dinner & drinks $3.

And even though gratuities for room attendant are already taken care of, I leave a dollar a day per room occupant at end of trip. Maybe $15 for 7 day cruise. They work so hard and I'm sure they're not paid enough. I work for tips also. I try to be a bit more generous.

  5. Okay what would you say your tab would be if there were zero charges for alcohol, casino, or morning coffee. We're some of those "weirdos" that don't drink, gamble, or even drink coffee. :) we'll probably do a specialty dinner for our anniversary and maybe room service a couple times.

Hello fellow Weirdo! I can't drink anymore like I used to. Bloody Marys and Mimosas for breakfast, frozen drinks in the afternoon, wine at dinner, cocktails at the casino and beer at the comedy club... those days are over. A heart healthy glass of wine or two a day is all I can handle now. No more smoke filled clubs and casinos either. And decaf coffee in the morning. So to answer your question; room service is generally included (free) but have a couple of ones on hand to tip the delivery person. Specialty dinners are usually around $35 pp depending on ship. You could probably get away with less than $100 as well. If you're like me, I don't want any more 'stuff' so there won't be any souvenirs or photos either.

  6. I'm so glad someone started this thread. I've been thinking about this all day. In the past I've spent $400-$500 a week. Mostly drinks or non covered food items. I'm heading out in a couple of weeks for a total relaxation cruise. No dress clothes, no formal dinners, no clubs, shows or casinos. Just shorts, t-shirts, flip flops. We're bringing two bottles of wine and I've loaded my Kindle Fire with books, music and movies. I just want to be a hermit on my aft balcony and read and drink wine and snack and take naps. So I'll bring a stack of ones for room service. I'm challenging myself to keep my tab under $100. But normally I'd spend about $500+/-.
