  1. That is awesome! We have a balcony as of now, but she hasn't said anything about a room upgrade, only OBC. We are still about 40 days out from our sail date and I HOPE we'll receive even more OBC!

I would have honestly prefered OBC!! I love being able to just grab a drink or a latte anytime or go shopping, knowing it's not out of pocket!

  2. The same thing happened to me, so I called Carnival and got upgraded from a regular balcony room to an aft-view extended balcony room, which is my prefered location anyways, so I was happy! I checked again the other day and the price went down AGAIN, so I called seeking some OBC. The fare for us 2 is now $600 less than I paid for it in May. Even the room I was upgraded to is now $400 cheaper than the regular balcony room I paid for! I could be in a Premium Vista Balcony for the price I paid. The person I spoke with was surprisingly rude to me and said that I have been given more than enough and they will not honor any more. Would put me on hold without warning and was obviously annoyed. I was nothing but nice, as I alwas am. I plan on calling back and speaking with a supervisor, though. Especially because this isn't the first time I have gone through a rate change with Carnival and before they were thrilled to give me more!

  3. Granted I was on RCI but we missed a port due to a hurricane in 2012 but the refund for missed port fees was added to our on board account as OBC. The port fee was in addition to additional OBC for the inconvenience.

I hope Carnival is as generous to you as RCI was to its guests.

Thanks for the info! Carnival is giving us $50 of OBC right off the bat, plus 25% off the individual's room rate on a future cruise. So if we also get the porting fees/taxes back (as we should) in addition, I will feel satisfied with the compensation. I personally think we should have more in the "now" in the form of OBC, because it's affecting us now, not if/when we cruise with Carnival again, but that's just me! I am dissapointed because they took away my favorite port and then they took away my favorite excursion activity from another port (I had already booked it, but they did refund). Essentially, 1/3 of my cruise isn't what I paid and planned for...but that's another song :)

  4. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you spouse was on the affected cruise with you they get the discount as well. I think it wouldn't apply to the other person in the room if they did not accompany you on the Miracle cruise.

Yes, that's accurate...I was just trying to lay it out easily. Each person only gets 25% off THEIR room rate and only theirs and only the base rate. So yeah, if you re-cruise with the person that you went to Alaska with, then everyone gets the discount!

  5. TXAlex, I'll can the PVP tomorrow. Jeff on the Miracle cruise desk was of the opinion that we will get the 25% off the cruise cost including the deposit. So we get 25% off the $600 deposit also.

According to my PVP, you get 25% off only your room rate. It's not the entire balance with anyone else's room rate, it's only the person's room rate that is "afected". So say you go with a spouse and the room rate is $800/pp. Yours will now be $616, but the spouse is still $800. The rest (taes, fees, deposits, tips) is just as it is, too. I had to clarify that myself!

  6. Oh OK I am confused.

I thought the 25% off was for the affected Miracle sailings which fastrock was on in May 2014.

So shouldn't fastrock be able to apply the discount to his Liberty cruise in 2015 since he already went on the affected cruise?

    Bill

Ahhh...I guess I missed the fact that he has already sailed on the 1-port-short cruise. I would say call your personal vacation planner and have them do it. I always have a great expereience with them and you are sure to get your booking just how you want it.

    2. I'm confused about this 25% discount on a future cruise. If I book a cruise, it's only 25% off the first person in the cabin? If there are two of us, the 2nd person pays full price? I am traveling to Alaska with my family; 4 people in a cabin. I thought if I booked another cruise for the 4 of us, I'd get 25% off the total cabin price for all of us. Is that not true?

    Thanks everyone!

Glad I am not the only one that thought that! You only get 25% off one person's cost (yours). Yes, the 2nd person (and 3rd and 4th in your case) pays the price you see online/get from your PVP. I was bummed out to learn that as well, especially since the fine print doesn't say it, just says once *per booking*, not per person.

  8. I would never think that people not inconvenienced would get the same deal as me?

Everyone thinks through things their own way. I read it as simply 25% off of a future booking, I didn't think they split off one person's portion and only took a percentage off that. The way I saw it, before I spoke with my PVP, was "sorry we had to do that, here is a nice little 25% off for next time you want to cruise, because we value your buisness", not just a personal inconvenience incentive. When I worked in hotels and we needed to give a percentage off, it was for the whole room, not just the affected persons (even the rooms that were charged based on occupancy). Cruising is a whole different ball game, I guess!

  9. I am sorry, but why would you expect to get a discount for people who were not Inconvenienced on this cruise? You were booked on this cruise they were not...it does not work the same as a VIFP where everyone in the cabin gets your discount.

I admitted above that it may have been naïve of me to think that :) It's just the way I read/understood it and thought others might have, too. Trying to help by passing along the information I received.

  10. Another "womp wooomp" moment and something people may not know/realize...the 25% off of a future cruise is only for the room rate of the individual being "inconvenienced” and you can’t book with that discount until you have completed the vacation. I figured the discount was mine to use right now, so I looked into booking my birthday cruise with it. I can’t wait until June 24 to book a July cruise if I want a particular room, darn! I also assumed (I guess naively) that I would get 25% off the whole pre-tax booking cost, meaning for all the people in the room, not just mine.

  11. Well, I just canceled, and then rebooked with Princess for less money. I'm pretty risk-averse and I just don't want to be in a position to have my vacation ruined if whatever is wrong with the ship gets worse with nonstop use between now and July. Got a full refund and was able to use my same air tickets, so yay.

How did you manage to get on Princess for cheaper?! I was looking at switching to them because I am a previous cruiser for them as well, but for the same thing it was hundreds more per person!

  12. Missing a port is drastic? Do you get this compensation if you miss a Caribbean port?

I'm beginning to think letting people know this far ahead of time might be a mistake. Would you take it better if they sprung it on you after the cruise started (like in the Caribbean)?

Is completely changing the itinerary and ridding their guest of an entire port of call drastic? Why, yes it is…in relative terms, of course. The itinerary makes the vacation, so an alteration like this is pretty major. I guess you are referring to the Caribbean because of the potential weather hazards? That’s a different issue. You know to expect certain weather at particular times a year, that’s part of the deal. This boat is not fully functioning, so they are unable to give us what we are paying for. That’s the basis of my unhappiness of their $50 offer. Again, especially because Ketchikan is my favorite port.

  13. I just got off the phone with my PVP. He said at this time no refund of port charges. Just the OBC and 25% future cruise discount. Oh well, I'm still going and I'll have a great time! But I will seriously review all my future cruise choices discount or not.

My PVP told me that we will get the Ketchikan port fees/taxes refunded as OBC and the $50 is in addition to that. I personally don't think $50 (I don't count the port fees as a benefit, that's my money already) and 25% off of another cruise is good compensation for such a drastic change. Yes, I understand that things happen, but the vacation I have already paid thousands of dollars for has lost some of its appeal and value. It's off-putting. Ketchikan was my favorite place last time and I am totally bummed that I don't get to go again; I was very much looking forward to it. I also think it's a little frustrating that they are taking 1/3 of the "Alaska experience" away from us, but they are still charging the exact same for the vacation. Other liners are more expensive for the same set-up, but I do have some thoughts to switch over.
