  1. Good info, thank you all. Seems like luggage will be manageable and we are going to Rome proper. So high-speed train it will be.

Getting from Rome to the port the next day will be another research project although I'm not too concerned with that.

    Thanks [emoji106]

  2. We are flying into Venice and will spend a couple days there before going to Rome for cruise departure.

Any recommendations on how to get there? Train is appealing but between talk of pickpockets and 2 of us managing 3 suitcases gives us pause. Appreciate any insight.

  3. Confirmed no shorts in aft dining room (Manhattan), Le Bistro, and Bayamo (from experience). It appears cruise casual is permitted elsewhere, including Taste and Savor.

We were on last week's cruise. I recall wearing decent shorts and a collared shirt in Manhattan with no problems. But it was the last night so maybe they were more relaxed?

Although when we made the rez a few days prior (we switched from Savor to Manhattan) they made no mention of a dress code. Unlike when we reserved Bayamo -- for that they were very specific about no shorts.

  4. Booked on transatlantic from Southampton, deck 9 forward, with large balcony, port side, just in case we see some sun!

10 days of relaxation plus a week in Florida and a free flight home with airmiles, what more could you ask for!

Was on Getaway last year and loved it.

We also booked a large balcony on deck 9, for next February. After doing so we have started to wonder if there will be noise from the deck 8 restaurants.

    Should we be concerned?

  5. Thanks to all here for the info on the AARP discount. I booked March 2016 Escape yesterday on ncl.com and got the Ultimate Drink Package. However the site said that the AARP discount was not available with this offer. But after reading here I called them up today and they gave me the AARP discount. They did take my AARP number.

    Thanks again, :o:o

  6. Thanks for the suggestion on the aft balcony. We had considered it (a couple we were with had one on our last cruise) but the reviews of Epic aft balconies have been less than glowing. Yours was the first positive comment I have seen.

It seems you were not bothered by the bar a few decks up?

    Thanks,

  7. We are ready to book our second cruise. NCL Epic, December 7.

Our first cruise was booked by someone else so it was easy.

We know we want a balcony cabin. Needs a good view (no lifeboats, pillars, other obstructions), quiet, no racket, cigarettes or debris falling on us from public areas. Enough room to sit out for coffee or cocktails. Bed somewhat near the balcony would be nice (will want the balcony door open at night for a breeze).

We don't mind a long walk from an elevator and would prefer the quiet of being away from it.

How the heck do I choose a cabin based on all that? Any suggestions are appreciated.
