1. 4 people? 1 or two hotel rooms? Bed size? Exact dates? What are you going to do in NYC?

Aside from the reality of the Staten Island hotels, it will take you about an hour just to get to South Ferry in Manhattan. If you want to do something in midtown Manhattan, that's another half hour or more. That's a lot of traveling. Did you look at B&B's near the ferry?

There will be 2 couples, August 4-5-6.

We just want to drive to the ferry, park and head into nyc for the day. And do some sightseeing. Etc

  2. Good day everyone.

I thought I would ask here first, since there are quite a few who are very knowledgeable about this area.

This is totally NOT a cruise related question.

We are driving from Ontario Canada to spend the weekend in NYC. We are bringing another couple who have never been.

Since this won't be our only time we do this, but our first with them, we thought we would do the Staten Island Ferry into the city.

So, we would like to stay near the Ferry Terminal, and drive to the terminal to park, and take the Ferry in. (Near the end of July)

Which is the best area to book in? Suburbs?

Any recommendations for hotels, we would like it to be around 150 per night, and we will be 2 nights,

We are not afraid of city driving, but want to stay in/around Staten Island for this trip.

    Thanks for any help!

  3. We'll be driving from the Toronto area to Baltimore on March 11. We plan on taking hwy 15 through Pennsylvania, to hwy 22 to hwy 83. I figure we'll stop for lunch somewhere around Williamsport PA. Any advice on restaurants that aren't too fay off the highway? Any must see places along the way? Not looking for museums or anything, just anywhere that would be a nice place to stop and stretch our legs.

Also, we're staying at the Best Western BWI north (Belle Road). I know they offer parking for the duration of your cruise and shuttle service to the port. Do I need to call in advance to schedule this, or is it just something offered to all guests? Perhaps I will give them a call to confirm. Are there any good restaurants around the hotel for dinner? Anything fun to do within walking distance?

    TIA!!

We do this often! The drive is easy! (We have also drove to Bayonne and Boston for cruises .. saves a bunch!)

We book through Trinity Reservations .com.. excellent site.. we always stay at the Best Western Elkridge, not much for shopping etc.. but the bar next door the Stained Glass Pub is very very good!

Enjoy your cruise.. ps.. if you go early enough, you can drive to the White House and see that!

  4. Fresh off the Grandeur, found the food serving sizes much smaller than our last cruise last April.

Don't get me wrong, we were never hungry, but... it was not the best in the MDR for breakfast, I normally just went with the omelette, the toast-forget it, you couldn't eat it. We actually just went to the Windjammer and had fruit and I got a bagel there, that was at least edible.

My biggest complaint is that the coffee is absolutely terrible! Every single cup tastes different? Always has been on all our cruises.

  5. Best western Elkridge- beautiful hotel. Package deals!!! www trinity reservations. Com.

Last cruise we had about 8 couples from cruise critic. We had a get together the night before. There is s decent restaurant there too.

Trinity is a small family run business. Questions personally answered quickly!

    Worth a look :)

  6. Thanks for your review Lenny. We will be on Grandeur on 1/16/2016.

I see that you liked your wait staff. Did you have "My time dinning"?

Same cruise as Lenny, Hi Lenny!

    We had My time dining.

Agree with Lenny on most, however we didn't care for the cruise director Paul.

Food was good, mattress good. Dancers I thought were good, better than last April, some singers not the best. I missed the first comedian due to being sea sick,lol.. but the second was good.

Service was absolutely perfect!!! I mean wow, they are great!

  7. For the past week I've been unable to access my reservation online. I finally called C&A about it today. They told me that there's an issue with the web site and there are a number of customers who are unable to access there reservation. They told me I wouldn't be able to check-in online, make reservations, etc... They offered to help me on the phone with any reservations, and that's fine, but I don't want to spend 15 minutes extra at the dock filling out paperwork when I could be on the ship.

Has anyone else had this issue with accessing there reservation?

I feel your pain! I was months with same issues!!!! Tried both Safari and Chrome.

I ended up having to always go through any emails sent from Royal to me... go figure.

  8.
yea, looks like thats a thing of the past. I'm reading $10.00 plus 18%. Glass hurricane is a little more appealing. Guess we will just see.. thanks!:)
On my cruise in April on the Grandeur, the souvenir glasses we NOT included.. I believe they could be purchased for an additional $2..
  9. Hi Chris and Jeff,

Terry and Donna here. We sailed together on the New Years cruise.

How did your stay there go in April?? We are sailing again in October and staying there this time. I've heard there are still some problems in Baltimore, and I'm just trying to gather information.

    Thanks

This has been our hotel of choice' it's great and there are zero issues!!!

We are staying there for next cruise too!!

    Have a great cruise!

  10. Fresh off the Grandeur- 8 night cruise.

I have previously came home loaded with souvenir glasses from our drink of the day drinks. This cruise, I came home with NONE. They were not included with the daily specials, but could be purchased with an upcharge of $2.

Our 2 drinks of choice(black russian + amaretto sour) were roughly $30 US- which equals over $35 CAN.

Friends who we cruised with, paid $462.56 US each = $925.12 (for 2) which equals just over $1106 CAN..

The drinks were priced differently at different bars on the ship too! But, it didn't matter saving the $1-2 bucks... we just didn't bother drinking, lol.. so money in our pocket.

For us, purchasing the drink package was NOT going to happen, and NEVER will at those prices... So, we paid by the drink... which was 1 a day, maybe 2... we spent way more money in the bars on the islands we visited...
