Who is the policy with?  Also where are you sailing to, if it's Norway you might want the missed ports as there have been several.missed this season and also Guernsey and Marseilles have also had a couple of problems.

The policy is with ensure. My cruise starts and ends in Valetta and goes to Greece and Croatia. Decided to leave the policy in place and hope I have no need to claim on it anyway

Glad you are sorted. Just for your reference the Lloyds policy is perfectly acceptable and is underwritten by Allianz who are one of the very best insurers.  Your £20 policy is at least a cheap cost.  However please be aware if God forbid you need to claim on it they will insist on split the cost with Lloyds, it's something the companies are getting quite keen on.

If it is a specific cruise policy I assume your new one has quarantine, missed ports etc which believe it or not are not req6by the cruise line!

Yes my new policy has missed ports etc. Thanks for the info. As I only took the policy out last night i could cancel it. Thanks again

May I ask which bank?  All UK High Street bank policies are underwritten by the top underwriters.  They all should cover the P&O requirements  although they don't state a cruise holiday they ARE covered.  However be aware they do not cover missed ports and in one or two cases cabin confinement costs.  The latter would apply if say you were ill with norovirus and confined to your room for 4 days.  The special cruise insurance pay out at a daily rate as set out in the policy while you aren't allowed out of your room.

There is a special letter of comfort all the banks adopted for cruising.  Either chat online with the insurer or call through your bank line. Print it and also download it with your 2 page policy summary, it will be fine as the cruise lines know of these letters and won't question it if you are checked.

Hi. It's Lloyds Platinum. Just to be on the safe side I've taken out a policy specifically for cruises at a cost of £20. A small price to pay for peace of mind. I have and will benefit from the Lloyds policy several times this year for land based holidays so feel I haven't lost out

You have not mentioned when you are travelling, I know it’s unlikely but the worst case scenario if you arrive at Southampton and after a spot check they’re not happy they could deny boarding see, www.pocruises.com/travel-insurance. Why not speak to the insurer that provides the policy that is included with your bank account, then you know where you stand and if you need to purchase an extension or another policy. You do not have to have a policy with all the cruising bells and whistles, ie cover for missed ports or for being confined to cabin. My insurer was happy to mail out confirmation of the required cover see above #3, it took about a week.

I'm travelling on Thursday to Malta and already have a quote lined up on my phone to accept if there's a problem

Since a couple of comments have mentioned the fact that P&O don't check documents, I'd like to point out that they do do spot checks. They asked to see my proof of insurance and made sure to check it contained all of the relevant conditions. Only took about 2 minutes, but they did check. That was late October last year.

Interesting. Worse case scenario I take out separate cover if they're not happy with existing details. Obtained a quote just in case

Ww have had to put our insurance details on the online booking form for our cruise with a insurance contact number. When we put in our passport details.

    Yes already done that.

  7. I see P&O state they require proof of insurance including Covid. I have insurance via my bank account which does appear to include Covid cover. I haven't been issued with a policy schedule as such and the policy wording forms part of a very large document which includes all account benefits. I have downloaded a copy and taken a screenshot of the page referencing the inclusion of Covid cover. Will that be sufficient? Do they physically check to see if you have a policy?

  8. Although I have been on quite a few cruises from the UK, this is my first fly cruise. Our cruise starts and ends in Valetta and our flight home is at 7pm. What happens the final day? I can see we have to leave our cabin early morning but understand we are able to use some facilities onboard for a while. We were hoping to be able to go into Valetta ourselves for a few hours. Would we be allowed to go back on board if we did that? Any guidance would be appreciated

Interested to read this as I may do a solo cruise in the future, and noticed that sometimes the single rooms are more than a twin room, and was wondering if I could just get away with booking 2 people on, then just turning up on my own.

I originally booked an aft balcony for 2 which was approx £300 more expensive than the single balcony. Adding my friend before we upgraded to a suite was a further £800 but we basically split the total cost so I ended up being cheaper for me, at least before the upgrade. The single balcony was very close to the Crows Nest so I turned it down.

Since losing my husband I have had holidayed on my own and with friends although this is the first time I have shared a room.

Don't think you will get away with booking for 2 people given the information you have to produce prior to e tickets being issued

Same day we sail on Celebrity Edge. Will raise a glass and think of you both.  😊

Lucky you. She's on my bucket list. This is only my 2nd cruise with P&O. Have mainly sailed with Celebrity. Have a lovely cruise yourself. 😊

That's great news 🙂 (Unless you wanted it all to yourself -- shame on you 😉 )

Have a wonderful time. So pleased for you both !!!

Notice you are from Staffordshire. Where about??? :classic_biggrin:

Near Lichfield Presto2. It will be the first cruise for my friend. Both  of us are widowed and sharing saves some pennies for us both as well as company for each other.  Hope we meet lots of nice people.

  12. Thanks everyone. Logic tells me PandO have been paid for 2 people staying. They are quids in.  She won't be using her on-board credit which would have covered her spending easily as she doesn't drink. Only downside for them is that she cancels pre-booked shore excursions and then claims on her insurance for the cruise.

I think she will be sufficiently healed by the cruise so I won't get to have the suite to myself. 😂

You have already had sound advice from the other posters, I just want to wish your friend well and hope you manage to have a fantastic cruise.

    Andy

    Thank you. That's so kind.

I take it full payment has been made.

if sailing from Southampton, I would just turn up on the day, tell them she is a no show and let her claim of her insurance

No good cancelling now just in case she is well enough to travel on the day.

Your friend will lose her money anyway, so why not give it until the last minute

Thanks MickD. That was my gut reaction. Hopefully she will be fine.

  15. Has anyone had experience of one party having to cancel last minute. My friend and I are due to sail in a fortnight and she had a fall today.  The hospital gave her the all clear but she has been told to check with her GP that she is fit to travel. I still want to go as I originally booked the cruise and she was added. Will PandO let me travel and she claims on her insurance or will they expect me to pay more? If they do I shall have to cancel as we upgraded to a suite a few weeks ago and I can't justify any further expense

  16. I've only cruised with P and O on one previous occasion and that wasn't in a suite as we wanted to see what we thought about P and O first. Our previous suite experiences have been with Celebrity where little there were quite a few little treats which weren't advertised but that clearly isn't the case with P and O

  17. We were in D734 (next door )came back last Friday .

Not a suite but it is so peacefull on the aft .

We had a peak in to the suite and it did look lovely .

    Have fun,Ventura is a great ship .

That's good to know. My DH and I are booked in suite D736 next August and my brother and his daughter in D734.
