  1. We were on the Grand Princess trans Pacific Sydney to San Francisco last year in April. In Samoa all electricity to section 7 of the ship failed which meant all cabins in section 7 , vista lounge and all public areas at the aft of the ship had no ac , lights anything!….they were unable to fix for 5 days until a part was flown into Honolulu.

Luckily there were enough free cabins for people to be moved….some were moved from suites to inside.

Princess compensated every one on the ship by giving us 50% of our cruise fare as a FCC…I believe those who had to move cabins were given a higher percentage of compensation.

We were in section 6 and ac worked in our area….it was just in the corridors that effected us and not being able to use facilities in the aft of the ship for 5 days. To be honest it did not affect our cruise enjoyment as we just used other areas of the ship. We were very great full for the 50% FCC and felt Princess were very generous.

  2. Tallin is an easy walk.

Kristiansand easy walk……great ice cream shop in the shops near the pier.

Gdansk …to get here you will need to use ship shuttle…..or you can just stay in the port of Gdynia ..walk into town which has good shops and there is a pier with historic navel ships and boat tours.

Copenhagen you will need the ship shuttle to get into town……..look at using Copenhagen Card if you want to do several attractions as it works out cheaper( Tivoli included in this card )

    Helsinki…use ship shuttle

Stockholm…will depend on where you dock…if at Nynasham use ship shuttle…..if you dock closer to Stockholm centre as we did this year on Sky you can walk takes about 45 mins or use the water taxis…when we docked close to city centre  a water shuttle was to the left of the ship and it took us right into centre.

    Visby easy walk.

Oh dear, sorry to hear that. Did you have symptoms or did you test anyway? We've not tested as we had no symptoms. Like you, we wore our masks as advised. We only went to the theatre once, lasted 3 songs and then left as nearly everyone took their masks off when seated and social distancing wasn't possible.

No symptoms ..just tested on Saturday morning prior to going home as I have elderly relatives. We have since developed cold like symptoms and are still positive 6 days later! Just goes to show no matter how careful you are…we were very careful…never used a lift and avoided any crowded area…only used our cabin toilet…and took every precaution we could.
Thinking about it not sure how we caught it …still had a fantastic time and ready to book again.

  4. We were on this cruise and wore our masks except when eating and drinking, never used the lifts and used hand sanitiser and washed our hands constantly. Took a lateral flow test on our return on Saturday and both have tested positive! We feel we took every precaution we could and and still ended up with positive lateral flow tests and cold like symptoms…just wondering if anyone else on this cruise has also tested positive on their return.

We had a great cruise and thoroughly enjoyed the facilities of the ship and the excellent weather we had…just don’t like our holiday souvenir!

Have a cruise booked, on Regal from Athens this July. Booked the Princess Plus Package, and so my teenage son will get the Premier Coffee & Soda Package.
The thing is though, that he doesn’t drink soda, he only drinks sweet ice tea (peach) .. and as no canned or bottled items are included? I guess he doesn’t really get any use of his drink package?

Also. There aren’t any Milkshakes (included/with the drink package) on Regal?

Mountains are included in soda package

Can you ask Guest Services if B2B cruisers need a Covid test between the two cruises?

Someone presently on the Discovery (North America cruise) were told Princess cruisers no only need a COVID’s test between cruises on a B2B.

On the Sky  now and those on the next cruise to Norway need to do the covid test on return to Soythampton

  7. I would go with one balcony cabin for 5he parents and an inside cabin for the three teens.

You could choose these to be opposite each other on 5he same floor and corridor that way everyone can use the balcony when needed. On a med cruise which is very port intensive I don’t think you will use your balcony that much…but saying that one cabin with a balcony would be great.

How is the medallion apt system functioning on the Sky? I just read comments on the Emerald and it sounds there are issues. So I’m wondering if this unique to one specific ship or fleet wide? Sailing on the Sky on Jan 22.... hope the system is up and running.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Worked fine on board the Sky for two weeks in Med 21st Oct - 5th Nov…..had a few problems before we boarded but worked great once on board

A little late to the topic. I just got off the same Sky Princess cruise as the OP last Friday. The main dining room menu was one of my favorite things about the Sky Princess. Our party all agreed it was even better than our last cruise Grand Princess/Alaska, which we thought was excellent as well.

And I say this as someone who eats a lot (high metabolism)I mean, I'm pretty sure I ate more than anyone else on that cruise 😜 I attended the gym 2-3 days a day just to burn calories for eating delicious foods a few times burning 800 calories in an hour on the spin bike. We ate at the MDR every night but two, where those were at the Crown Grill and Sabatini's. My usual MDR dinner was 2-3 starters, 1 salad/soup, and 2-3 main courses, plus dessert! There were only 1-2 main courses the whole trip I can remember not liking, and everything else was fantastic. I will say the MDR offerings that matched the specialty restaurants were never as good, to no surprise. For example, the MDR's Petite Filet was no where as good as Crown Grill's, or the MDR's spaghetti and meatballs was no where as good as Sabatini's.

That said my American palate back home is pretty boring, as I am not well traveled nor live in a big city, so I am not as accustomed to eating fancier foods all the time.

Have be agree with you in our experience of the same cruise we loved the food choices in the main dining room..  Plenty of choice and excellent food  .

For those aboard Sky currently....has a Super Tuscan Lunch, Dinner or WMD been held ? We are on the Sky beginning Nov 5 and would love to attend one of these .

Not seen this advertised. Also asked the maitre de about Chef's Table and special wine tasting meals but none are planned on our current sailing of Sky around Med.

We are currently on Sky also and we too have found the food quality, variety and level of service very much below what we would have expected having cruised Princess, P&O, Fred Olsen. We sailed on Sky in September and the dining experience in the MDR on this cruise is noticeably below our experience then.

I don't think wowzz experience is unique and I have discussed this with other passengers and many others feel the same.

There could be a few things at play here... there is a transatlantic coming up and the USA market is going to be much more important to Princess so they clearly are training up a lot of new waiting staff and I wouldn't be surprised if that was happening in the kitchen too. There are supply chain issues because of covid, particularly in the UK... it could be they could not source the necessarily ingredients to provide more variety... quite a few menu items have been unavailable when we dined.

Having said that... we are dining in club class so I was expecting the dining experience to be better than the normal MDR but so far it has been equal at best and most times below IMO. The only benefit of CC so far is one extra entre and less crowding... not worth the significant extra fare.

We don't, and won't eat in the buffet so we have had to eat either in the room or in the speciality restaurants when we didn't eat in the MDR. We have 5 nights remaining... we have 2 speciality restaurants booked and we will probably go to the MDR on the other nights but only because if you don't want the buffet and you are maxxed out of speciality dining... there ain't a lot of other options.

    It isn't 🙂

Could be part of it but that doesn't explain the poor service or badly prepared food... one person had almost raw chicken (!), we had big pieces of hard shell in out fish soup (sharp and dangerous if swallowed).

My oh my! Really? You have no idea... I don't look for problems but if they are there then I don't ignore them either.

There should be no teething issues remaining. Sky has been sailing now for many weeks... they should have them pretty much ironed out by now.

I am looking at the positives... I have to - I am still on the cruise! But when there are so many issues it starts to spoil the whole experience and that is how we feel right now.

Believe it! It is happening right now on Sky!

To be fair, most of the food is pretty good but there are enough issues to affect the whole experience.

Then ignore it!!!  Why post if you have nothing to contribute.

Quess you will not  cruise Princess again with so many  negative comments.

I can only say we will we are on Sky Princess and having an excellent time.Ship beautiful, staff friendly and helpful, our food in mdr has been excellent.

  12. Interesting topic.

We usually leave cash on top of gatuities.

Yesterday whilst on Sky Princess I asked our steward if he needed anything from shore knowing the crew are not at present allowed shore leave. I was asked for a small pack of flavoured noodles! He was really missing them and was unable to get them on ship.

It took little effort to visit a supermarket whist ashore and purchase a few packets...our steward was very pleased.

So if you want to give staff something extra why not ask them
