  1. We usually subscribe to the get on early philosophy...except in San Juan. The ship leaves pretty late. We dropped our bags with a porter and spent the day exploring. We had a small back pack with our documents, iPad and camera. We walked on the ship at 7pm. Our bags were at our door. We cleaned up and grabbed a quick dinner before muster. It was one of our favorite days of the trip.

  2. We were almost the people left behind on our first cruise at our first port 15 years ago. We were young and had not travelled very much. We were at a bar and realized it was getting really empty. We had no watch with us....I know...terrible planning. We quickly figured out it was dangerously close to time to be back on board. We flagged down a cab that rushed us back and ran down the pier and were some of the last people to get on board. We have never had that issue again.

  3. Thanks everyone. We had bad luck both arriving and leaving last year. On embarkation day I dropped the other 8 people and luggage off at the port and left to return the van at one National. It took the shuttle over 45 minutes to even get close. I eventually decided it would be faster to walk and asked the driver to let me off.

  4. How has traffic been at Port Canaveral lately? Last year traffic was terrible on the day that we embarked because of a shuttle launch. The day we disembarked there were delays due to heavy fog, so traffic was terrible that day. We are sailing on March 17 so I want to have some idea of how long it will take for us to drop off the car at national and get to the port for our 11:30 check in time.

  5. 11AM gives you no room for any sort of delay. Last year we were late disembarking because of heavy fog. We had to hustle to make our 1PM flight. There were 7 of us so we had rented a big van. We ended up paying to take a taxi/local shuttle instead of the car rental shuttle to beat the crowd there. We made it with time grab Subway for the kids, but it was a stressful morning. I know that is a rare occurrence, but there were a lot of people trying to reschedule flights. We booked an early evening flight this time. It will still be warmer in Florida than where we are coming from so I’m sure we can find something to entertain ourselves until it is time to go to the airport.

  6. When we cruised out of San Juan we dropped our bags with the porter around 11. I don’t believe they had started check-in yet. We carried a small backpack with our documents, passports, camera, and iPad with us. We spent the whole day exploring old San Juan. It was our favorite day of the cruise. We checked in pretty close to the last possible minute. No lines then...walk right in.

  7. I am not an AARP member but I still participate in The rewards for good program. We paid for our cruise, an excursion and we will pay for onboard expenses using gift cards purchased through this program. It doesn’t take long to earn points. I usually do the quizzes when I’m watching TV.

  8. My brother, his wife and their daughter we selected as family of the day. My brother was torn because his 2 other kids were checking in with other staterooms. There were 9 of us ages 4-70 traveling together. He decided to accept and the 3 of them were at table on the side waiting to board. The rest of us were over visiting with them in our matching shirts. The cast member saw us in our matching shirts and moved the rest of us to the front. My parents had planned this trip for all of for 2 years and getting selected as family of the day was really neat.

You can pre-pay before you get on board. We also get Carnival gift cards 10% off from the AARP rewards for good site. It is available for all ages. (Neither of us are old enough for AARP). We use these to pay for our gratuities. I also try to estimate our S&S bill and buy a couple to cover that.

  10. We were talking to people in the taxi line that had sat next to us on the plane and decided to share taxi. At first they said no because it was per family. The other gentleman quickly claimed me as his daughter. We were able to split the cab and laughed about every time we saw them on the ship.

  11. My husband and I just back from a 7 day Disney Fantasycruise. We were traveling with my parents, my brother, his wife and their3 kids. I would say that we all walked away with different opinions ofthe cruise. My husband I have been married 12 years and do not havekids. We like to travel and enjoy an occasional cruise because theyare easy vacations that don’t require a ton of planning. We haveprimarily sailed on CCL. We both agree that we would not go back on aDisney Cruise if it were just the two of us. We thought the buffet wasgood but we didn't feel like the main dining room food was that good. Themain pool area was not an option for us in my mind. The two pools were chuck full of kids thatnever left for the bathroom. There were Disneymovies playing constantly. I get thatthis is great for families, but this not my idea of a good time. My brother his family loved it. Their kids were happy and having a good timeand they were able to enjoy a boat drinks and some sun. The constant Disney music and the Star Warsday at sea are “perks” for some people while we found ourselves ready forbreak. On the other hand our 14 year oldnephew was in heaven on the Star Wars Day at Sea. Thekids club was awesome for the 3 and 6-year-old. The 14-year-old loved the teen club.

Overall value is in the eye of the beholder. There are people who love DCL and others whodon’t see it being worth the money. Evenwithin our party of 9 there were different opinions. None of them are wrong it all depends on whatyou a looking for.

  12. We stayed at the Homewood Suites. We had 2 studio suites for 6 adults and 3kids. Even with the excessive amount ofluggage we had (our family doesn’t understand how to travel light) we hadplenty of time. With our group, ages 3-70,getting everyone moving in on direction is no small task. We enjoyed the pool and outside area. The kids decided to swim even though it wasnot that warm. We enjoyed the fire pitsand actually ordered pizza had an outdoor pizza party It was a great way to relax after a long dayof travel. The staff there is unbelievablehelpful and nice. We had a rental car soI can speak about the shuttle or long term parking. No matter how close you are to the port be preparedfor the traffic if you are trying to get to the port early for embarkation. I had dropped the luggage and the other 8hours of our party off and left to return the car to the Alamo office at theport. It took me an hour to get back onthe shuttle. I eventually got out of theshuttle and just walked to the ship because we were basically at astandstill. Enjoy your trip.
