  1. Just returned from the May 24 Alaska trip aboard the Golden. We did the Princess excursion in Skagway that included panning for gold, the bus trip up into the Yukon (be sure you have your passport as customs comes aboard to check) and the train ride down, ending with lunch at the Skagway Inn. Really enjoyed it all. Had a great guide/driver on the bus who provided us with lots of information and "tidbits." The train ride down was awesome and as a previous poster stated, they give you lots of information as well. Not to be missed. Lunch was good at the Inn and we opted to stay in town and walk around. Weather was good but the walk back to the ship was longer than anticipated and VERY windy once we got near the pier.

  2. We were on this cruise as well in a Dolphin port-side mini-suite mid-ship. Perfect location. Our 3-for-Free included dinner at the Crown Grill. It was fabulous, best filet I've ever had, really. I agree that more time in Ketchikan would have been nice. We had taken the crab boat and crab feast excursion (fantastic, by the way...lots of wildlife) which left no time at all to wander the town. I was very impressed to see Captain Wilson walking the line of people waiting to board in Ketchikan. He has to be the most visible captain we've sailed with.

As a side note, we found the beds in the mini-suite to be very comfortable, more so than the ones we've had on other ships. No mattress topper needed.

    Great cruise!

  3. Just returned from the May 24 Alaska cruise aboard the Golden Princess. Dress was absolutely more casual on this cruise than any other Princess cruises we've taken. Even on formal nights, people wore polo shirts, jeans, etc in the dining rooms. On other nights, I felt overdressed in nice slacks and sweaters. During the days, most folks wore jeans, sweatshirts, shorts, and flip flops. It didn't bother me at all to have people be so casual. In all honesty, things seemed very relaxed and we had a great time. Hope you do as well.
