  1. I had the same promotion with OBC and dinner, and the newest promo actually saved me a lot more money with paid gratuities. I called and they switched promos no problem, without cancelling my room. So while I lost the OBC and dinner, I saved $675 on gratuities and My fare even went down $100.

  2. Those party barges have to go outside of HI waters.

The Casino will probably be closed in HI waters.

Mike - if you are not going on this, why did you indicate you were booked on it?

He didn't indicate he was going on it, just asked on behalf of casino cruisers.

  3. I will be cruising with NCL for the first time next year and have found out on some ships there are dinner shows. I've searched here and the website but can't find any mention of one on the Gem, so I'm assuming there isn't one but wanted someone who has been on before to clarify for me?

  4. I just showed you an exact picture of what you will see on the screen when making the booking. Nowhere does it ask how many are kids or how many are adults. It asks how many in party. That is it. As long as the person booking has UDP, it doesn't matter if anyone else does. It has nothing to do with cabins. It has to do with the individual booking. Then yes, the bill will be settled at the end of the meal. Those that ate who did not have UDP will be charged. Those that ordered from the kids menu won't.

Yes, and it was very helpful to see it! I was just reiterating that I wouldn't be charged up front.

  5. So it seems like I can make reservations for 4 and not be charged for the other 2 right away? My youngest will be eating from the children's menu and my oldest would more than likely eat from the adult menu unless there's nothing on it she would like, so would also order from the children's menu as she will be under 12 when we sail. I imagine they would wait to see which menu they would choose from before charging me?

  6. Thank you both for such detailed info! I didn't realize the kids club was more restrictive than Carnival's so that is something to keep in mind. Most likely, the kids will eat with us but if they prefer to eat at the buffet and go back to splash academy, I'm okay with that too!

There have been several changes to the dining plan so I'll have to wait and see about the charging.

  7. I booked our first Norwegian cruise for April 2016, after sailing with Carnival 4 times, so the numerous specialty restaurants are new to me. I have the UDP promo but only my husband and I have it while our kids do not. I had planned on making reservations online, but read on CC that the kids will be charged at time of reserving. Is this true? I don't know if kids will be joining us for dinner when we do specialty or will be in the kid camps, especially since I don't know the hours for the camp yet.

I don't have a PVP and booked online, though I do plan to call with my questions but thought I'd ask here in the meantime. I also did a search but nothing too concrete came up, a lot of reviews about dining mostly.

  8. BTW, anyone know if booking inside cabin provides enough insulation from issues caused by open balcony doors?

My husband and I were on the Valor in April in an inside cabin, and it was very warm. Not enough to keep us awake at night but definitely wasn't cold.

  9. Yes, I read the cabin thread on NCL and there was one review from someone on the jewel in cabin 5586 from 2010 and no mention of what the cabin was like but didn't think to look at the stickies. :)

  10. This is probably a long shot, and I've done a search with nothing showing up, but has anyone stayed in this cabin? This will be our first NCL cruise and just curious if anyone can tell me more about it. Good location, how is the room set up for 4 people, etc?

    Thanks!

  11. Thanks for all the replies. I'm not sure on budget as I have never been to NYC and I know it's very expensive to stay there. The cheapest hotel that Norwegian offers is $269 for 2 nights at the holiday inn midtown in Manhattan I believe it's called? I just skimmed it the other day but that seemed very reasonable to me. After skimming past a lot of posts here, I do need to take a cab from airport to hotel but there is a shuttle from hotel to port, and will need to take a cab or transfer from port to airport. Sorry, I'm kind of flying blind here as I usually cruise out of Florida and there are plenty of hotels which offer airport/hotel shuttles. Thank you for all the ideas!
