  1. I figured as much but you know how quickly these convos turn.:p One minute you're discussing hand sanitizers and the next thing you know, it's turned into another smoking/dress code/gratuities war!:D:eek:

  2. As someone born in San Francisco (I was born in the Presidio at Letterman Hospital now Lucasfilm's headquarters look for Yoda Fountain!), I can tell you there's SO much to see and do not just in the city but around the Bay Area.

There's the record breaking world champion Golden State Warriors in Oakland across the bay. The San Jose Sharks hockey team to the South. Napa valley is not the only wine country area. We also have Sonoma valley, Livermore valley and Saratoga, all of which have tours.:D

There's the zoo, Broadway plays at the Golden Gate and Orpheum theaters. Aquariums in both the Golden Gate park and further south in Monterey.:p

That's just the start. Shopping centers, golf courses, botanical gardens check out the Rose gardens in both the city and in Oakland. Chinatown. Japantown. The Castro. The Mission. The Marina. Ocean Beach. The possibilities are endless!

  3. I love these threads!:p

Without going into details (let Yelp be your guide), in San Francisco (!) you can find the following and not ALL are dive bars:

    1. Gay bar but with plenty of straights going there too in Castro get this HAS $2-3 beer and $4 well drinks Noon to 7pm EVERY DAY! NOT a typo.

    2. Certain dive bar near the cable car line downtown serves a 16 ounce beer and a shot CALL OR WELL $6 anytime. There are other bars throughout the city that do this as well for happy hour. Depending on the bar, happy hour could be 2 to 5 hours!;)

I STILL don't get paying over $7-8 for any drink.

Point is you need to do research and NOT just plop down on any barstool. P.S. I've NEVER paid for drinks in Vegas or Reno either.:D

  4. I know food is highly subjective BUT...

Think of the buffet like Hometown. The MDR like convention or wedding reception food.;)

If you set your expectations there, you'll be pleasantly surprised how great some of the food really is. It is after mass produced. Think IHOP mass produced. Of course the specialities will be better. They are cooking for probably 200 tops as opposed to up to 6,000! YMMV.

  5. Yes..the prices are in line with sporting venues, where they gouge as much as humanly possible. There is no reason for the high prices! I think anything over $4 for beer or $7 for mixed drinks is greedy gouging.

I agree 100%! To that poster who pays $9 to $15 (!!!) at home:

STOP GOING TO THOSE PLACES! THEY'RE RIPPING YOU OFF!

I live in San Francisco and unless I go to a concert, ballpark or the usual suspects ie the tourist traps, I don't pay that much.

Examples: Pabst Blue Ribbon $2 -NOT A TYPO- :D

Tennessee Mule $6 -AGAIN NOT A TYPO-

Crown and 7 $8 you know the drill.:p

If you want to pay those outrageous prices, your choice but don't try to justify any of it. They are making hand over fist profit from this hence the pushing of the drinks.

  6. You gotta LOVE people who justify the high prices!

I went to Super Bowl City yesterday in San Francisco. Bud Light was $9. Of course it was a tourist trap.

Went to a bar nearby, not a dive and paid $6(!) for a Tennessee Mule.:D

    As you can tell YMMV.

I've said a million times already. If you're paying more than $8 for a beer or $10 for a mixed drink under normal circumstances, you really need to stop going to that bar!:D

  7. BART Embarcadero Station will be closed at Spear Street. For those familiar with the area, this is the east side of the station at the Hyatt Regency hotel and Embarcadero Four Center between 1/30 and 2/6. The rest of the station will be open.

CAUTION! ALL parking lots in downtown will be sold out if not already. Taxis will be nearly impossible. There will be long delays between SFO and San Francisco city proper. The airport is located between San Francisco county and Santa Clara county (where Super Bowl 50 will be played in San Mateo county. Traffic at times will be at a standstill on both Highway 101 (directly from the airport) and Highway 280 in the hills West of the airport. Both highways go between San Francisco and San José. Both directions will be clogged.

RECOMMENDATION! Take BART from SFO or OAK to Montgomery Street station ($8.95 each way from SFO, $10.20 each way from OAK). Catch the San Francisco Muni bus #8 just west of Montgomery Street at Kearney and Geary Streets ($2.25 each way), go north to the end of the line. Guess what's across the Embarcadero from that bus's terminal? Pier 35.:D

This way you avoid all the madness. Please arrive early for just about everything. Both transit and traffic are not reliable. For any detours , check before you leave on 511.org under both traffic and transit.;):p

  8. I'm STILL trying to figure out WHAT bars are you going to where beer is 8 dollars?

The most I've paid in a bar for domestic is 5. And this is in San Francisco of all places!:p

They even have a few bars where you can PBR tall cans for $2! Not a typo. Not Happy Hour either.:D

Once again my advice is to stop going to those places. They're obviously ripping you off.

  9. Something to consider, I'm pretty sure Jennie wants to eat in Luminae, that she's paid extra to eat in. For breakfast her attire is fine.

People just love a good dress code thread, now that formal night is settled you gotta get it where you can.

I agree 100%! The cruise line determines who can be seated in Luminae. It is after all their dress code.;)

No one here is paying for her cruise. She asked for opinions. Leave the judgement calls to the cruise lines.:D:p

  10. It's funny reading people who can't comprehend ideas like "chic" and "designer jeans" complain about people in baseball caps and think it's all related in some big conspiracy to ruin their lives :D

Here's an image of someone dressed chicly in designer jeans, note that there's no baseball cap:

    350x700px-LL-9ae989ba_742161.jpeg

Now compare that to the myriad of guys I see on cruises who wear suits that aren't tailored, or were tailored a long time ago, are out of style, use out of style ties, out of style shoes, etc. These people, to me, look far worse. You can't just throw on clothes and think they look good because they're considered "dress clothes".

Your second paragraph is a kicker!:p;)

You talk about putting lipstick on the proverbial pig!:D

  11. I have VERY mixed feelings about this.:(

On one hand, $50 to $200 is a little rich for my tastes. Especially with a comedian. The most you pay at The Punch Line in San Francisco is on average $20-30. And she does say a couple of things that are out of line.;)

OTOH, she supports gays and lesbians, the American troops and calls the Right and the Left out when they BS.:D

It will be interesting how well she sells. Obviously, Carnival feels they have the audience that can take her on.:p

  12. I'm a HUGE ginger beer fan:D

If they have it, order one of the following:

    Moscow Mule - vodka

    Gin-Gin Mule - gin

    Ginger Margarita - tequila

Ginger Bourbon - of course bourbon

    Tennessee Mule - Jack Daniels

    Dark and Stormy - rum

Try any of those. Not too sweet. Not dark or heavy except Bourbon and dark and stormy. Trust me all of the above get the job done!:p
