  1. We had done the Transatlantic the other way, sailing back from Barbados three times now and have never found a lack of things to do. Yes there are quizzes but we've been to some good talks and seen some good films as well, plus my husband likes Shuffleboard as well.

What time of year have you done it? We’re october so wondering how long until we hit some decent weather

  2. We dress up for the Tropical night when we're in the Caribbean as most people do. My OH wear the usual garish ships and i wear a bright floral top with while trousers and the lie I got a few years ago. On other nights you hardly see anybody dressed up except the Ents staff. It's usually the theme in the club or for the deck party (like 60s / 70s) but nothing else special going on that I've seen. As others have said, on the other hand the B&W night is very strongly adhered to.

Does the tropical night fall on formal or casual?

  3. Groups (plural) being thrown off a cruise sounds a little far fetched to me. I don’t recall at any point calling you yourself a liar, more that these ‘groups’ you spoke to may not have let the truth get in the way of a good story! Nothing in any way directed at you and I’m unsure why you would be so protective over them and their opinions.

In my own opinion I saw nothing ‘higher class’ on Cunard compared to P&O and likewise passengers on our cruise commented on lowering standards on Cunard - perhaps the lowering standard is across all Carnival brands and something we all need to get used to going forward.

I need to go and catch this unicorn, which is residing on my lawn now ;p

The people we spoke to were disappointed they no longer felt they could go on P&O, due to what they had been seeing recently, they were not Cunard regulars.

The separate individual groups of people we spoke to, said family groups had been thrown off P&O. This is certainly not out of the ordinary, and is generally procol if one of the group commits drugs / drink offences. However, you continue to disbelieve it!

As cruiselines continue to compete with each other on price and cruising continues to gain popularity, unfortunately this kind of behaviour will start to crop up across all lines where there is an attractive last minute deal.

  4. I have no idea what the unicorn comment means but in the meantime there have been reports on the P&O board of people being put off the ship.

They may well be urban myths like some of the laundry tall tales.

Is this a P&O cruise or ferry. And are these stories emitting from die hard Cunard fans?

  5. Far fetched? What a bizarre comment, clearly the three separate groups of people we spoke with on QV were lying then! I have no axe to grind re P&O, neither did those we spoke to, all of them said it was lowering standards though.

  6. P&O one of the few lines I have heard of groups of people being thrown off for drink and drugs offences. I have been told about rowdy clientele on many occasions from different people who would not cruise with them again.

Sounds a little far fetched but if true it sounds like a P&O ferry as opposed to a P&O cruise?

  7. We did a two way Transatlantic on QM2 in June, our first Cunard trip......the tea, coffee making facilities are the same as P and O with exactly the same biscuits, tea and coffee in cabin....we felt service in general was worse than P and O , i.e. piles of dirty dishes left all day on open decks, had to get our own sun beds out !! Waiters in Britannia OK but nothing special......in fact there was nothing special at all.....the shops had far less selection than P and O. Shows were much the same. Tips are more or less £10 a day because of the exchange rate and drinks much more expensive. We were underwhelmed and will not cruise Cunard again.

Agree with this. Our first with Cunard was a couple of weeks ago. I expected more from it due to the price difference and the Cunard name. We would go with Cunard again if there was a fantastic deal, but overall for the price there is nothing which would make me choose Cunard over P&O

  8. Sorry to hear this has happened again. I complained about the issues we had with disembarkation and Titan. Cunard were not too bothered and placed all the blame on Titan.

Make sure you get some food from port/ship/airport before getting on the plane.

Also at Athens, if you are waiting at check-in and travelling with children - The McDonald's is only accessible before passport control. Food options are relatively poor after passport control.

  9. Sorry to hear that the flight issues were such a problem.

Perhaps it helps to explain why Cunard seem to have dropped the Med fly cruises for 2019. What time did you leave the ship ? (It's a question that's asked quite frequently)

Around 12:30 I think..can't honestly remember after all the issues

  10. I don't think Cunard can be blamed for most of this.

Sent from my SM-G930F using Forums mobile app

I see your point. I can't see how they can be blamed for disembarking passengers knowing there was a delay on the flight and nowhere to go at the airport. Likely not their fault they didn't provide staff to ensure everything was ok boarding their charter flight. I would also go as far as to say the lack of food/baggage issues on the return flight wasn't their fault as they didn't select a cheap charter company to increase profit margin.

Perhaps I just expected more from Cunard based on the reputation they are a 'step up' from other cruise lines.

  11. The flight out to collect us was delayed, Cunard were aware of this before desembarking us, however still chose to send us to the airport. Upon arriving at the airport, we were offloaded from the coach and left on our own - from flying P&O previously, I would have expected staff at the airport to ensure check-in ran smoothly.

We (around 300 passengers) spent 2 hours stood at the doors inside the departure area at the check-in desks.

After checking in we were advised of a 1 hour delay.. approximately 2 hours after our original departure time, we were called to the gate. Queues formed and then spent around 30 minutes stood at the gate..finally the first bus was loaded...and then remained parked for 10 minutes! 20 minutes later the next batch were placed onto a bus..again for 10 minutes in 30+ degree heat.

We set off relatively quickly after that to be advised there was no food left for the flight...4 hour flight with a 2.5-3 hour delay.

Upon arrival at Manchester we remained on the plane for 20 or so minutes as the staff couldn't a 'chuck/chock' for the wheels!

After a 30 minute wait in passport control, we then had a further 45 minute wait for the baggage to start coming through!

I THINK I have covered everything... first time with Cunard, however this would be enough to put me off travelling with them again. Being kicked out of the stateroom at 8am and not returning home until 10pm isn't the kind of service I would expect from the Cunard brand..for a med cruise. The initial delay wasn't necessarily their fault, however actions could have been taken to ensure it didn't affect the passengers.

  12. Hi All,

Had an email re Bonded Baggage (they take the luggage from the plane to the ship for you). This has always been the case for me on P&O, so seems a little strange to hear - I just presumed all cruise lines do this.

Anyway, a friend has been advised by Cunard this is only available on flights from London, whereas I'm flying from Manchester.

Does anybody have experience of the above? Especially outside London airports.

    Thanks

    Ryan

  13. Hi Gill,

I think we may just miss each other.

Just really looking for any info that isn't advertised or that you'd only know having cruised with Cunard / on the QV, which would help make our time aboard even better.

Joe, great investigative work! This is exactly what I'm after. I saw the soft drinks package and noticed the wording was a little 'loose' around usage, but this looks like a bargain for $6.50 a day. Chinos is good to know - may pack a pair just incase.

  14. Hi all,

We're first time travellers on Cunard, booked on QV for August. We've cruised twice with P&O so are no strangers to the dress code etc - pretty much the reason my wife wants to go back on another cruise is the dressing up and atmosphere in the evening!

I'm just wondering if anyone has any tips / guidance, which isn't published directly on Cunard's website, or anything we should be aware of in advance?

    Thanks in advance! :D

    Ryan
