  1. Ironically, I stay up much later in my regular life.

Normally I'm up at 6:30AM, go to bed between 11:30P-12:30A.

On vacation we are usually in bed by 10-11P. On our upcoming cruise I hear there's not much nightlife, and I thought, "fine - I'll be asleep by 11 anyway!" :D

  2. There really are reasons other than money for not doing shore excursions.

Some have mobility issues and take a cruise just for the enjoyment of being on the ship.

Some have been to a port so often there is nothing they want to do or do again.

Some love to just walk around in some ports.

Some hate the port and have no desire to get off the ship.

Some find the excursions offered by the ship or independents leave too early.

All good points I hadn't thought of; thanks.

Those who mentioned staying on the boat on port days to have the pool/spa/etc. to themselves - that is mighty tempting!

  3. Are there folks who take NO excursions on their cruise - not with either the cruiseline or independent operators? Is it a budget consideration or do you just like staying onboard? Do you get off the ship at the ports at all?

I'd love to know the philosophy behind that; thanks!

  4. I've only been on 2 cruises, but it's always my goal (learned from these boards!) to embark as early as possible. It's fun to explore the ship and grab a bite without as many crowds.

But I was wondering - some people must prefer the opposite. What's the case for embarking late (by choice, not by necessity, such as a late flight time)? Anyone here prefer embarking later on and what's your philosophy behind that. Thanks.

  5. We just booked our first Alaska cruise. We're going the Tracey Arm~Skagway~Juneau~Ketchikan route, which I believe is the Inside Passage? Just wondering how choppy it is.

We'll get seasickness meds in advance of course, and my husband only has a problem if the seas are really rough. I haven't read about this route being particularly rough/choppy, but I wanted to ask.
