What you can do, is if the price has dropped for a higher category, ask to be upgraded.  After final payment, usually the only ones that get a price match, in the form of OBC, are those that book early saver.

I've had cruises before where I paid in full, and still got the price reduction.  back then, I called my PVP to process the price reduction, andthey refunded the difference to my method of payment (in this case, credit card).  this was some time ago, though.  things have probably changed.

but yes, crdtrnr mentioned seeing if a higher category cabin price has dropped.  that's another good way of getting value in a price reduction.  just before covid, i had booked an interior with NCL.  a price reduction happened after final payment date.  the agent said "too bad".  so i noticed the oceanviews were now less than i paid.  i asked for the upgrade, and he talked to his supervisor, who said yes.  we not only got an oceanview, we got a Family oceanview.

Seems completely unreasonable and a terrible deal. Most people who book a balcony and probably even an Oceanview for that money could just book a Junior suite. I would rather take that money and get a better cabin or room category. This seems like a suckers deal, sorry.

I totally agree.  I would just upgrade my cabin for that cost.

I think they were trying to do something like Carnival's "Faster to the Fun" program.  at least that one is $49.95 for the whole cabin, and is a one time cost.  only 50 per cruise are sold. I got it for our cabin of 4, and found it to be worth it.

  3. i know this thread is a few years old, but I'm super grateful for this info and wanted to express that. :)   I'm organizing a cruise as a gift to my best friend for her 40th birthday, including a dining package.  I know she will absolutely love the Illusionarium, so I'm grateful to have the info that I can add to her birthday package that I'm creating for her to present to her on her actual birthday (her birthday is in May but her sailing will be in December, as it's cheaper then and we're crowd-funding the money for it)

Here is the link. I have posted one set and another will be shortly. (Yes, family photos are on here but the first ones should be teen compass)

Please let me know if they can or can not be viewed. I have not used flicker much since 2011! Use knowledge or lose it baby! ;)

thank you so much for posting these! i was debating between cruise lines for my daughter's birthday cruise. she's 14 now but we're going for her 16th (next christmas). now i can show her what fun there is on board on RCCL and let her choose! so far she's only been on disney and loved every minute of it. but i tend to sail carnival, so she's interested in checking them out. i wonder what sailing at christmas is like, though... other than "expensive" lol

  5. All non-refundable means is you can't get cash back, it doesn't mean that the unused balance doesn't remain on the card for future use (which isn't a refund in any event). I find it hard to believe that CCL would take a card with say, $500 on it, apply $400 toward the sail and sign and then say "sorry, your card balance is now zero because you didn't use it all". (Of course the proof is in the pudding so we will have to wait and see.)

from what i understand you're correct. i read through all the FAQs yesterday and they don't expire either. but yes you'll be able to use it all. But as you said, you won't get cash back (except where state laws dictate that you can't have non-refundable cards). They also mention on the FAQs that they can't be used on one of the ships (The Spirit, i think) because the Spirit's currency is AUD, not USD.

I read all the terms and FAQs and I found them to be pretty normal for a gift card and pretty fair terms. I'll be buying one as soon as they're available in canada. Given their percentage of canadian clients, I'm surprised they didn't make them available to canadians right off the start

  6. What else is new... some sites don't even list our province (PEI) when they do have Canadian sales available. C'est la vie...;)

Great idea though, I am sure it is just a matter of time when they are available north of the border.

I'm in ontario and I'm bummed too. I was buying one for a friend's birthday which is in a few weeks, but... alas... :(

  7. We are hoping to see the Islanders VS Rangers on Wednesday 1/29 on the Splendor!!

This is the game at Yankee stadium.

    Lets GO Isles!!

Since it's a stadium series game and it's special, it'll be nationally broadcast and you'll likely see it. Maybe even on the seaside theatre! But other than that, no hockey. Almost all hockey is under regional contracts instead of national contracts and the only time the ships see hockey is during the playoffs. And even then they only see a few games.

The bartender I had at the EA Sports bar was a big hockey fan so he told me all about it. We got our fix by playing nhl 14 together.

  8. We were on Carnival, sailing away the day the Kings won the Stanley Cup. We thought for sure we were going to be able to see the whole thing because it was a nationally televised broadcast.

As soon as we got on board, We must've asked every single bartender with a TV if he would be showing the game and they all said they would.

Our in room TVs lost the game the second we started sailing, and we could not find one TV on board with the game on.

Of course, panic set in… But eventually about an hour or two after we started sailing, the game was on. It was just the beginning of the second period, so we were relieved.

Hopefully your game isn't on as you are sailing away.

The bartender at EA should be able to attend it into the game as long as it isn't on NHL network, I would think.

If anybody in the bar objects to you watching hockey, just forecheck them. ;)

I'm Canadian. i can forecheck, backcheck AND crosscheck! but i just checked the schedule and it looks like all my teams' games are playing on canadian networks that week except for the saturday night game against the rangers, which "might" be available, we'll see... no wait, never mind. it's a canadian national broadcast because the game is in Ottawa (Hockey Night in Canada). i think the only american national broadcast i found that week was some Anaheim game. (sigh) There's hope for the Capitals/Penguins game too, as it's telling me it's on TSN2, which ESPN mirrors a lot of their programming, so we might get that one.

    Oh well... :(

I'll send a message out to my boys so they can get over it now, and not bum them out on board... Add that the NCAA football championship is the week before we board. Super bummer. Last year we watched it on board with a ton of Tide fans. It was super fun. We even made these green shirts with clovers on them that say "kiss me, I roll tide". We've since sent them to a few tide fans i know in alabama so they can wear them on st patrick's day.

    JUST FOUND THIS: http://msn.foxsports.com/nhl/schedule?categoryId=142&year=2013&seasonState=regular-season&month=1&week=0&scheduleDayCode=2014-1-12

decided to check fox sports and they had more info than my NHL GameCentre info had :D

there's a shred of hope in there. even if it's "Fox Sports Detroit" (FSDT) and "Fox Sports Ohio" (FSOH) etc

  9. GO(LF) HABS GO(LF)!!

at least it's not the leafs... phew!

i talked to my travel planner at carnival about a month ago about this, as I'm sailing in January and refuse to miss watching one of my good friends play (he plays for the Ottawa Senators). There are 8 of us going on the cruise together and 4 of us are good friends with him.

I was told that if the game is being shown on one of the channels that the ship normally picks up, it'll be shown in the EA Sports bar and will be shown wherever it can (especially when requested). Now, I live in Canada, so games are on TSN, Sportsnet and CBC... only one has an american affiliate, ESPN. I doubt there are many broadcasts of games in the US except for local channels in the coordinating areas, like MSGTV (madison square garden tv, i believe) in NY, NESN (i'm guessing New Enland Sports Network) in Boston, etc.

When i was on board the Celebrity Solstice there was only whatever basketball games on ESPN in the rooms. There was the odd baseball game too, now that I think of it. But come April 30th I showed up at Guest Services in my hockey jersey and asked if there's hockey anywhere. there wasn't. I requested a block of internet time sufficient to watch a few games on my ipad, as i subscribe to NHL GameCentre. I figured out the cost to be about $40/game in the end... i watched th games at the casino bar and a few handfuls of passengers joined me every night to watch (mostly canadians, as my jersey attracts them, of course). When the free internet ran out, i put up a tip cup that said "tips for hockey/internet costs" and the canadians donated $100 the first night, so we got to watch a game the next night. Thankfully by the time I got home, Ottawa wasn't eliminated so i got to go to two round 2 playoff games here in town. But I'll be disappointed if there's no hockey on board. i should check the schedule to see if we're at least playing in the states where it's likelier that they'll be televised there...
