  1. Will the concierge make reservations for you if only 1/2 your party is in a suite? Like, is there a way to dine in the specialty restaurants with friends when they're not in a suite and/or can you make separate reservations online then have the concierge join the reservations so you can all dine together? Same question for shows.

  2. If you are traveling with two adults and one child do you need to buy 3 UDP's or can you buy 2 and then pay for the child fee when they eat? My son will probably only order an adult meal at Teppanyaki and Cagney's. Otherwise he opts for the kids menu. Anyone know how that works? I am seriously considering the UDP after eating all but one meal in the specialty restaurants last cruise.

  3. Excuse me if these questions have been asked and answered but I could not find a 2014 answer here.

Does the casino consider your play to be cumulative from one cruise to the next or do you start fresh with a new players card each time?

If it is cumulative, will they automatically issue you your same player number or must you insist?

I don't think I could begin to know what I did with my card and I was only on one NCL cruise prior to my upcoming Gem trip.

    Thanks in advance. :)

  4. I too have vertigo 5 to 7 days a week from mild to severe. Surprisingly it does not affect me on the ship but when I get off ship on land then it comes on.

I am a mess for a week after. I am hoping that having three still days will help with that.

  5. DH booked a surprise Bermuda cruise on the Breakaway and I am really excited to have such a large balcony to lay around on for sea days. My only fear is motion. Glad that we are parked for three days; Worried that I will be unhappy with the motion because I get vertigo.

I don't want to change because I do want the balcony. If I booked the M6 myself I would have opted for closer to the middle, but he got closest to the front and booked back in February.

I don't want to obsess until September but I want to mentally prepare for what to expect. From anyone who has been all the way up front on the Breakaway, what can I expect?

Thanks in advance for your experiences.

  6. I was a bartender for many years. Although everyone got good service, anyone who threw out an advance tip got the most attention from me. And I liked those generous people a lot more. It did happen often. People know.

And I do the same when seated at a bar, or in a hotel room, or on a ship, or in a taxi... there are many appropriate times to do this if you're planning to tip anyway. I never consider it wasted. And it has always been much appreciated.

People say TIPS is an acronym for "To Insure Prompt Service." And even though it is their job and they are getting paid to do it, it still feels good to tip. And I feel better about myself by hooking up a hard worker. It is my way of "paying it forward."

I know TIPS really means, "You work hard and I appreciate that." While we say aloud, "By the way, can you grab me a bucket of ice? Thanks."

  7. If, in fact, there are any crew at all that do post here to solicit better tipping, I would imagine that the generous passengers who actually do tip extra and on these boards outnumber those crew members exponentially.

  8. On the Gem this summer the price was $299 for the large cabanas (no small ones yet) with no slide passes. When I booked in 2012, the price was $249 and included slide tickets but I waited too long to book the cabana and they changed the price and took away the slide tickets so I passed on it and opted for the clamshell (included priority tender tickets and nothing else) which I booked onboard the first day. Even with priority tender tickets, when we arrived the first full row was taken and we were stuck with second row seating with no ventilation. Plus there was bird poop on all the chairs. We just kept our stuff there. So I would not pay for a clamshell again. But if they offer the smaller cabanas for $149, or even $199, I would do it over the cost of the large cabana. Were might have stayed longer if we had better shelter. With just a hot, dirty clamshell we were outta there by 1:30. Now if it is the same high price as the large cabana, forget it. We're a family of 3. That is $100 each - which is a high price for a "free" excursion to a private island.

  9. We just returned from the Dawn trip to Bermuda, Family Suite, no balcony, Room #12018. LOVED it. The room was nicely sized for our family of 5----it never felt crowded unless we forgot to put shoes away and tripped on them. . .The Murphy bed was great for two of my kids and the room steward would close it up each day to give us that space back. The sofa bed didn't strike me as super comfy but my 10 yo loved it. That wasn't folded up every day but it didn't get in our way as it was against the glass windows. Our bed was wonderful and there is a folding "wall" on one side and a curtain on another, so you can kind of close off the main bed from the rest of the room. The bathroom was great---double sinks, stand-alone shower and full tub. Lots of storage. Walk-in closet area outside of bathroom. I loved being on Floor 12---right down the hall from the pool and not far from Cagney's where suite guests can eat breakfast and lunch. Our Butler brought us treats every day and the little suite perks really make you feel special. We joke that we've ruined our kids for "real cruising" now that they've had priority treatment for embarkation and seating at shows. Hope this helps!

Sounds awesome! I am looking at booking same for next Aug. Getting more excited about that than my balcony in 3 weeks. Lol. Which side has the better view? Did you face water or Bermuda?
