  1. We pre purchased (5) 24 hour Vaporetto (ACTV) passes (20 euro ea.) online thru Veniceconnected.com last October (2012). You get a voucher with a PNR number/ bar scan design to activate at the ticket machines. Each voucher also had a bonus for Venice casino. Well, our ship never made it into port due to serve storms and record flooding (just an unlucky cruise). Asked ACTV for a refund due to flooding? but no luck. ACTV customer service person said the voucher is good for up to 1 year from date it was purchased for- Nov 1, 2012 (good till Nov 1, 2013). I know we can’t predict some things, but I am pretty sure I’m not going to be visiting Venice prior to Nov 1 2013, and would hate to see them wasted, so if someone could use them, provide an e-mail and I’ll be in contact.

That is a really nice offer of yours. I would be really grateful if you could let us have two passes emailed to lsier@home.amslaw.com.au

I am willing to pay for them if we can figure out how. Sorry you missed out on Venice, but maybe there will be a chance again some time. I never thought I would be able to return (we were there in 2003), but now ten years later here we go again! So looking forward to it!

  2. Hi Terry & Jacquie

I spent 6 days in Venice in 2003 and I still didn't see everything on my list! Something to look forward to in October. But I do recall spending half a day travelling over to Murano and Burano and back and was very pleased to have done it. Burano particularly is a very pretty island with buildings painted in bright colours and lots of shops selling lace and embroidery and some good trattorias. Of course we also visited a glass-blowing factory on Murano and bought a cute little souvenir vase. It's fascinating to watch.

For more info on Venice look up http://www.tomsportguides.com - this site has a great PDF file on Venice you can store in iBooks. There is also a link there to Venezia.net which has a good map of the vaporetto lines.

  3. Really enjoyed your beautiful pictures i have a question . My mom and i will arrive in venice at 11a.m. Were staying over night at the londra palace located right next to st marks square . We board our cruise the following day i believe the latest we can check in is 3 or 3:30 p.m.

What can you suggest we can do with that limited time in venice?

I would love to see st.marks basilica and doges palace. Also maybe take a gondola ride and just walk around do you think we would have enough time to do all this?

You also have time to take a couple of vaporetto rides to the islands of Murano and Burano or even Lido. What cruise are you on? Does it remain overnight in Venice after you board? My one does in October, and it would give you even more sightseeing time. Alternatively, check in as soon as possible, then go off again sightseeing until 1hr before departure.

  4. We are going to be in Venice for 2 days leaving on Celebrity Silhouette, 8th Oct 13. We were there for a week back in 2003, so have done a fair bit of exploring. But in my research this time I came across www.tomsportguides.com which has, among others, a fantastic guide on Venice and a map which can be saved in iBooks. It is absolutely brimming with helpful information for cruisers.
